This video is a lifesaver. I've been having this problem with both smite and rimworld (and rimworld is literally ALL mouse movement). I never would have guessed that LESS is MORE in this case. Here I was trying to increase stuff. After doing some research I found that this happens because some game engines cannot handle your mouse sending so many reports to it. Also, always make sure your mouse polling is faster than your monitor refresh rate, else you risk getting lag problems because of that.

This is legitimately the video I've been needing to come across for years. Randomly games would have micro stutters, and poof, they're gone. After a thousand searches and dozens of "fixes" a simple 1000 poll rate on my mouse was the problem the whole time. Had the settings hardware programmed, so the problem would always exist no matter if I reinstalled windows. Clever.
to run a game as the administrator you need to go to where the game is installed and find the .exe. Then right-click on it and click properties then go to compatibility and near the bottom, you will find 'Run this program as an administrator'. Click the box and click apply then just close out of everything. Hope this helped!

Dude wtf. I never ever thought one of these youtube videos would actually help with this issue. I started noticing it when I played on WoW private servers and I couldn't figure out what the problem was because it didn't use to be there. Also it's not a thing in other games. My solution was to disable hardware mouse and smooth mouse which completely solved the issue but made the mouse quite floaty and unresponsive. Then I stopped playing private servers with Classic WoW and forgot about the issue. Then today I loaded up Dawn of War for the hell of it and my mouse was immediately lagging the game. Googling this issue yielded the same results as back then, absolutely nothing. Just people having problems with mouse drivers or only the cursor actually lagging, not the game itself. I clicked this video as a last resort and I immediately saw that your issue is exactly the same! The animations lag like crazy when moving the mouse. And of course it's the polling rate. Reducing it also fixed the problem for me so thanks for that man, holy shit I've been struggling with this problem for so long.... Btw did you ever notice that if you dragged the cursor very slowly it wouldn't cause any lag? I think that ties into the polling rate.
I changed the settings last night because I thought "the bigger the better" with the Hz number. thank you so much you just saved me a 4 hour virus scan

UPDATE 2022-2023: Nvidia / AMD Drivers have fixed the issue. The only thing is that we have to play the game in windowed mode, otherwise the mouse cursor is not visible.
Wow thank you so much. holy shit, i thought buying a beast mouse with high hz would help me in my games but because of this dumb setting on max all the time, it ruined most games for me and had to restart my pc a lot for no reason (sometimes not even fixing the issue). Now everything runs smooth
YO, like I've been searching for a solution for this problem for such a long time and even tried everything from Registry Editor to Mouse Settings and never found any clue on how to fix that problem. Now I see this video and WOW. I just needed to change my polling rate from 1000 to 250 and that would've fixed everything instantly wtf. Thanks a lot, man! :)
@@ssdlucas3592 Depends on what mouse you have. If you have a mouse from a known manufacturer just try to search for " driver download" and you'll find a download like Roccat Swarm for Roccat mice or Logitech G Hub for Logitech Mice.
Just a quick update: I changed my polling rate back to 1000 without having any problems anymore. I don't know if it's because of my switch to a better CPU or because I completely reinstalled windows for Win 11 but the problem doesn't seem to be there anymore for me at all.
I've been using a temporary fix until now. For some reason I could fix it by lowering and then increasing resolution on games, but this fixes it permanently. You rock dude!

This is especially useful if your rig is old. I got an I5 3330 still. Whenever a game maxes out the CPU I get this problem. The CPU is so stressed that it can't properly process the mouse movement every 1ms without dropping performance.

mine still lags. tried 100 hz, 500 hz, 250 hz, and 125 hz. still lags. you know why? i have a red dragon mouse.
