  • My good friend Josh Kelshaw beat the odds and drew an amazing tag in New Mexico. His tag was good for an immature billy or nanny. This hunt was much more difficult than all of us had anticipated. Ibex are incredibly smart and have amazing eyesight. They can also hear danger coming from great distances, making them very difficult to stalk in on.
We had a blast in some gnarly country and Kelshaw was able to harvest a beautiful nanny. None of us will ever forget this hunt, the country we were able to enjoy or the AirBnB we stayed in.
    Enjoy.

Great video. I did my dec 2022 muzzleloader hunt solo. I slept on the top for three nights and killed my billy on the third day. Being solo I didn't get too much filmed. Watching your video has encouraged me to put what I did film together soon. Thanks for the video.

Thanks Scott. We had a blast on this adventure. It was far more challenging than any of us had anticipated. Having dealt with plenty of difficult hunts before, we all felt confident that this hunt would come with its own unique challenges, but we may have underestimated the terrain and the eyesight of these little creatures.

I had this same hunt this year! I missed twice, once at 467 and the other at 440. I only had 1 day to get it done and it was super disappointing that I didn't fill the tag. My cousin killed a 34 inch billy in Oct. with his bow! Congrats on your harvest!

Sorry to hear about your hunt. But I’m amazed that anyone can get these animals killed with a bow. Huge kudos to those guys for sure.
I am a bow hunter and am just racking my brain trying to think about how I could do it. That’s tough!

When does this hunt take place? Late November? December?

most of the immature male/nanny hunts are in Feb.

That’s correct. This hunt took place in February. It opened on the 4th of Feb and ran through the 8th (I believe).

That looks like such a fun hunt. I have always wanted to hunt Ibex. I might should think about actually applying when I put in for NM if i ever wanna do it just them draw odds... 🤔🤔

It was so unique. I have not been on a hunt that was even similar to this one. Terrain, vegetation, ibex habits and behaviors make it for a once in a lifetime type hunt. They are so vastly different from deer, elk and the animals that we are accustomed to hunting. Super unpredictable and bizarre.
Anyway… thanks man. It was a blast.

Thanks Matt. How are you doing? How’s your bro doing? Is he out on the mission now? Did you guys draw tags? Hope all is well!

@@BMCBryce Hey Bryce! Sorry for the slow response, just now seeing this. James is doing way good though! He left in December. He actually broke his hand skiing 2 days before his mission though so he ended up serving in Provo for a while. Now he's out in Argentina. My other brother Daniel actually just left on a mission on Tuesday so its just me now haha. Hows Isaac doing by the way? I was unsuccessful on the draw this year unfortunately. I'm planning on doing some over the counter elk though. How'd the the draw go for you?

Dude, that’s so fantastic. I’m thrilled to hear all of the above. My son Isaac is tearing it up. He’s been gone 9 months now and is absolutely loving everything about it. He’s been blessed with good success and has seen results from all the hard work.
I hope both of your brothers are well too! It’s change then forever.
I also, blanked out and drew nothing! Which is the first time that I haven’t had an archery deer tag in Utah since I was a kid (and aside from the two years I was on my mission). Only one of my boys drew a GS deer tag. My 15 year old - Lucas. He really wants to try to kill with a bow this year, so that will be my focus.
Thanks for reaching out man! I hope to run into you again.
