Will, I'm rapidly becoming your No.1 fan. I have been using your tips and advice to retrain myself and my 14 months old Great Dane. His loose lead heel is sooo much better and his barking has all but stopped after only one afternoon of following your advice. I tried to clean his ears tonight and he let me, without a big fight. I can only put it down to your training and me becoming his 'loving leader'. Thank you so much, I will be avidly following you channel.
Beautiful analogy with the child and the chocolate bar. You've just identified the problem with positive only parenting. No wonder the world is full of out of control kids and dogs! Doggie "love with limits" so to speak. Love it!
This particular video really made it clear as to the distinction between positive only, balanced, and correction only training. Now I really get how to start planning an effective approach for my dogs. Thanks!
Best way to explain firm but far. I have a Barker that I rescued 7 yrs ago. She is 10 now. Her bark is a fear based or excitement. Depends on the situation. She is a Dutch Shepard. I get her to do all the things and she will still bark. It is like she wants get the last word in lol
I also agree with training the whole concept. A trainer can't cherry pick commands with owners unless the owner completely gets "the whole picture". Understanding what the dog goes through when training new behaviors is crucial!
I absolutely love his honesty, non of it is rocket science but it's about being reasonable and balanced. My impression is Will has in copious bucket loads common sense combined with being articulate in his delivery. No bullshit just realistic 👌. I'm hugely grateful because I've never trained a dog before but circumstances are I've had to of late and these videos are making it one of the most rewarding ventures I've done ; I'm loving seeing the progress as a result of patience, consistency and hours of invested time .
Hi Will! I love your videos! I appreciate your balanced and loving approach, how holistic you are! I liked that you brought up the fact that a quick video doesn't necessarily show all the intricacies of addressing a behavior problem! I'm curious what you would say about the concern that using a physical correction for barking doesn't address the underlying emotion that is causing the barking...it just suppresses the barking which may be less effective in the long run than addressing the emotional/mental state of the dog that leads it to bark?
analogy with the child works. before parents are physical with kids they have the ability of language. With dogs, you have to escalate to physicality sooner once verbal fails to correct.
My lad has a warning bark (unknown car coming through farm gate), a bark to call me ("I've chased a possum up a tree mum" - he's a Staffy X German Shorthaired Pointer) and a crazy, jumping, over excited bark ("its time for my dinner"). Only the last isn't acceptable to me. If he does this in the house, it's deafening and scary if you don't know him
Thanks for being so honest. I’m fostering 2dogs for a friend and they bark a lot and it’s not good for my ptsd. I have managed to stop 75% of it myself through the stuff I learnt with my dogs of the last 5 years. My last girl never barked. So when I got my new pup it was a challenge but I taught her to speak to me, no barking. And when she barks, someone at the door or gate, I tell her enough and thanks for telling me. But coz of the new 2 she has begun to slip and barks with them, pack mentality… so trying to teach all 3 ish is tricky lol But I think what I may do is get a couple of slip leads, as that may help with the problems with them walking/ dragging down the road. And also I can short sharp tug to teach them no/enough as atm when I say it one stops 2 continue.
My dog is 8 months old. He used to bark at everything as a puppy. Literally sound of door, drawers opening, any sound. From exposing him to all those things that make him bark, now he's pretty much okay with things and other dogs. He barks at people though, he doesn't bark at everyone. When we are walking he doesn't bark. At home he keeps barking at the same people, who work in my house. Is this bored barking? Also when I am driving, and the car stops (at a gas station, parking lot), he barks at anybody approaching the car. I am glad I have been able to cure 90% of the barking but I want to know how I can find out what causes him to bark. He also seems to bark more when I am around, so it's either fear or guarding thing. As a side note, I live in a majority moslem country, and they are not allowed to touch dogs. I think this is one of the reasons. Because of them avoiding him trying to sniff, he gets suspicious?
No matter what I do, my cane corso always barks if hes alone . If hes outside he barks, roaming around a gated room still barks in cage definitely barks 😭 idk what to do no more
My dog only barks at the privacy fence when people are walking by or walking their dogs, she is a German shepherd and Doberman both of my girls are just a little over a year old., I don’t mind but we unfortunately have a barking ordinance in my neighborhood, how do I correct this behavior
Hi Will ,I have a austrailian shepard female ,spaded, she barks at all new people, mostly males,or new people to house or others side of wooden fence, sweetheart once she knows you!,any help on a command to be quiet!
I understand the process of address= correct, redirect and reinforce. But surely this is post event, and therfore handles the effect, not the cause. You call on the Police after the event to solve the crime, not before the event to prevent it.
Choke chains are very damaging to a dogs neck and should never be used. Educate yourself before doing anything like that to your dog. Watch jason correys video on prong collars because he explains how to use one properly and explains why you shouldn’t use a choke.
I use a prong collar on my gsd she is so powerful and lunges at everything we went to a trainer and they showed us how to use it properly and we have a well behaved dog that walks well now...I never wanted to use one but its helped given my dog the ability to go on walks in a calm manner we never had before...so if you can find a trainer to show you how to use one it will change everything
his vision on positive training couldnt be more wrong... and as soon he said prong collar and chocke collar i completly checked out... u dont need a collar with spykes to train a dog.
Xavier P nothing wrong with a dog barking to you, to mean it’s annoying. I have a 7 month old chihuahua that doesn’t react to small noises or people walking by my door anymore. Guess I’m stupid

100% recommend the puppy training course and understand the "why" as a leader you do things 👌

Epic
At what age should you start using a choke chain or prong collar?
Choke chains are very damaging to a dogs neck and should never be used. Educate yourself before doing anything like that to your dog. Watch jason correys video on prong collars because he explains how to use one properly and explains why you shouldn’t use a choke.
I would imagine as soon as you bring them home. Better for them to get use to.
you shouldnt use it
The pronge collars are forbidden by law here in the netherlands 😅 because a lot of people useing them harming the dogs instead of teaching them..
How do u stop a 14wks old barking to try make my other dog play even when I say quite
Will swearing scares me x
Congrats, she didn’t bark once.
his vision on positive training couldnt be more wrong... and as soon he said prong collar and chocke collar i completly checked out... u dont need a collar with spykes to train a dog.
If you have a problem with your dog excessively barking then don't get a dog really.
Or just get the right breed
Or correct the dog
@@stoonley4 I mean barking is in the dogs nature. How about people train you to stop talking?
Shawn Stanley are you stupid? There is nothing wrong with a dog barking just as there is nothing wrong with a human speaking.
Xavier P nothing wrong with a dog barking to you, to mean it’s annoying. I have a 7 month old chihuahua that doesn’t react to small noises or people walking by my door anymore. Guess I’m stupid
