- With an automation track record in more than 100 intermodal terminals, Camco Technologies has build a considerable lead in the automation of the container shipping industry.
For optimal processing of the container handover process in intermodal terminals, the gate automation is the first key data collection point. Via the Truck Appointment System (TAS) also known as the Vehicle Booking System (VBS), a transporter books the pick-up or drop-off of a container/semi-trailer, through encoding container or trailer ID, container move while picking a time-slot. The upfront registration of the journey allows the terminal to improve the gate flow, avoid traffic jams during peak hours, but also improve general housekeeping.
When the truck nears the terminal and drives under the truck OCR portal or video gate, the truck as well as container or trailer are identified automatically without the driver having to stop.
Nearing the terminal access gate, an LPR camera recognizes the truck and matches the license plate data to the VBS or TAS data as well as to the information collected at the OCR camera portal. With pre-registered data checked at the OCR gate, the truck driver just has to encode minimal information at the gate kiosk before being handed over his Electronic Routing Ticket. This ticket informs the truck driver where to drop off or pick container or semi-trailer.
When the truck drivers under the cantilever RMG crane, Camco RMG cameras register the move from truck to the train at the moment truck or semi-trailer pass through the cantilever RMG crane legs. Connected to the crane PLC, the TOS knows which container or semi-trailer is lifted on which train-wagon and track.
When the train leaves the terminal, the train OCR portal registers every train wagon, capturing rail wagon number as well as single stacked or double stacked container numbers and trailer ID.
When a train enters the terminal through the same portal, it takes just the time for the complete train driving through the camera portal to instantly collect the complete train manifest, allowing speeding up the train handling process and improving train turnaround.
