Sharks have swam the oceans for millions of years. People and their ancestors are mere fingernails compared to more ancient creatures.

In the case of the White's off of the coast of CA it is the result of the protection laws put in place for sea lions and seals - the White's preferred food.
At one time the sea lion population along that coast line was down to less than 500, now with the protections in place, the sea lion population has grown to the 10's of thousands, so naturally, the sharks return and stay.

All things national geographic used to be about science, society, the world, and people. Or thereabouts. You could rely on it truth and the beautiful reality. Now it seems you engage in the antics profiteers use jumping the shark on reality for viewership. When in reality you're short-term focus and eye on profit and viewership is undercutting your true market niche. Now you look like everybody else instead of an institution of reality and science. It's embarrassing. I grew up reading the magazines and looking at the pictures as a young boy. Maintain that and all that you do online and you will earn the trust of people who really matter and that will propagate.
