That was a good time seeing all of that cool stuff. 11 years old, stuck in the mount working at the end of the elevator. Loading and unloading 3 wagons of hay. $ 1.65 for the day. I'm 60
Hi...so grateful you take time to share this truly historic fort...as said, the souls of the solders who fought & walked these grounds are still there...amazing how the young men of the 1850's were able to fight w/ all they had to carry...often wonder how much their full packs weighed & in the heat, oh my!!! one place I know you would really enjoy is Gettysburg...I live close by, visit often & really feel the souls all over. Blessings & thanks 🐴🌾🛶🇺🇸
Hi Rusty, I bet the soldiers enjoyed the shade from those amazing trees. Quite an interesting history in that part of New Mexico. One doesn't need to be a history buff to appreciate the past....thanks for sharing. Have a good week!
Much appreciate the historic video! Those people of 170 yrs. ago were no joke. The planet was just coming out of the last major event of the mini-ice age, severe winter cold and snow! You have to wonder just how those old wood stoves worked against such conditions.
Wandering Fort Stanton… I can feel the eerie feeling watching this video. There are so many historical moments happened here. Thank you for the sacrifice. And thank you Rusty for showing us the inside history. Aloha🤙
I had no idea that the fort was so well preserved. I live about two hours away...will have to visit. I just went to an evening of ghost stories about the fort last weekend.
When the wind blows through our pine trees it is a wonderful sound. Our road is always quiet and there are no street lights. We are almost 7000 feet so when it is full moon it lights up the road. I walk across the road into the forrest. Must be careful of bears for they are hungry this time of year.
Hey Captain! I've heard you mention that these type videos don't get alot of reviews. I don't understand why because these along with the driving videos are the top shelf best ones. I give it a two thumbs up! 👍👍
Hi Rusty Maureen from NewZealand. once more .Today I have thoroughly enjoyed your video of Fort Stanton and can well imagine that you may have felt the presence of some of the guys who were in the Military back in the day I enjoy watching all your videos but in particular the ones like this which show us points of historical interest ...please keep them coming
This would have looked significantly different in 1855. There would have been no paved roads, cement sidewalks, or electrical wires and cables. It would have been dirt or gravel roads and walking paths. You would have seen soldiers on yard duty cleaning up the yard and gardening, training, and going out or coming in on horse back for patrol. There would have been soldiers working the stables along with several black smiths. You would have heard training officers calling out orders and, on some days, shots being fired for practice. During the heat of the day or lunch, it would have gotten quiet for a few hours.

The museum was very interesting! I am a historian and read about slavery, the civil war, WW1 and WW2. Thanks for sharing.
I'd like to read about the Civil War.
Can you please recommend a good book?
