  • This restored/modified 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback is a two-owner car, according to the seller, who says the original owner was a real estate agent who needed a larger car for driving clients to listings. The car was reportedly stored from 1980 until the last owner bought it in 1996 and refreshed it for his wife to drive. The seller says the Mustang runs very well and has won awards at local car shows. The car has always been garaged.
    POWERTRAIN
The "C" in the VIN indicates that this Mustang came from Ford equipped with the 200 horsepower, two-barrel carburetor, 289-cu.in. OHV V8, which was rebuilt and modified less than 5,000 miles ago. The engine now has MSD Atomic fuel injection, an MSD distributor, and an MSD digital ignition system, according to the seller. A 22-gallon stainless steel fuel tank from Rick's Hot Rods holds the EFI pump. The engine has Ford Racing chrome valve covers and tubular exhaust headers. The seller says cold starts are a matter of waiting five seconds before the engine fires with no leaks, weeps, or other issues. The upgraded transmission is a Richmond five-speed manual that's controlled by a Hurst shifter.
    EXTERIOR
The dark green color is a GM hue called Polo Green that was professionally applied in 2006 and that the seller rates as a “9 out of 10,” due to a few small, hard-to-find bubbles. The seller states that there is “no rust” on the car and that the glass is original, with only a couple scratches on the back glass and a small chip on the windshield. He adds that the seal rubber is soft with no cracks and no leaks. The lights work, except for the backup lights.
    INTERIOR
The original bucket seats were redone in black vinyl at the time of the car's restoration/modification and they're in good condition with working adjustments. The headliner was redone during the restoration and is in good condition. The carpet was also redone during the rebuild. The car has its original Rally Pac gauges, which-along with the other gauges-are in good working condition. The original AM radio and heater work and the manual window mechanisms are okay, but the passenger’s side needs to be lubricated.
    CHASSIS
The suspension was serviced at the time of the car's restoration and the seller says the bushings and shocks “look good,” with no issues. The front suspension was stiffened with shock tower and tower-to-firewall braces. The steering is manual and tracks well. The front brakes were upgraded to Wilwood disc brakes with a Wilwood master cylinder. The 165/80R15 front tires and P235/60R15 rear tires are 13 years old and mounted on American Racing Torq Thrust wheels.
