B&M Roller Coaster Roars Part 1 | Thrill Warrior

- Roller Coaster, specifically from the manufacturer Bolliger and Mabillard, have a distinct roar as they ride on the track. The box-like design of the track amplifies the noise being created. Some coasters put sand in the rails or the spine to reduce this noise but to me there's nothing like hearing a roller coaster roar as it rips thought its layout! Here as some B&M coasters that I have footage of! Hope you enjoy!!!

There’s nothing as satisfying as a roller coaster roar.
The best thing!!!
Nemesis roaring in and out of the trees and trenches is like nothing else on earth. Coupled with the theme music it is truly one of a kind.
it’s gone and it’s getting sand filled 😞
@@henrywelsh9369 it already was filled with sand prior to the retrack, following complaints from the nearby village of alton
I hear and ride these every day at work. I work at great America in Illinois as a ride mechanic for the B&M (Batman, Superman, raging bull, flight) I do daily inspections and fully repair them and the sound never gets old I could listen to them run all day and I run them empty at least 20 times before I sign them off as okay to ride
They are just magical things. Other rollercoasters sound like down-to-earth mechanical engineering (which is also quite charming), but these are like otherwordly creatures that came from another planet to make crazy inversions and huge speeds bearable.
4:21 Katun's roar is one of my favs definitely. Katun itself is such a good ride I cannot put into words how much I love it
Such a tragedy that the new B&M retract for Nemesis is sand filled. Really gonna miss that iconic roar.
I swear Raptor is not only one of the loudest bud it’s just such a satisfying roar
I love raptors roar so much
Raptor is the loudest roller coaster I've heard it's so hard too hear when walking by it
Oh for sure! It’s awesome
B&M inverts always seem louder to me, and Raptor feels like the loudest of the bunch. It's my second fav invert only after Montu.
Exactly, It's scary to hear it too. 😂.
If a fighter jet were a coaster
I have been to Six Flags (Over Georgia) and the Georgia Scorcher was VERY loud as we walked on the sidewalk to the park entry. I loved the roars though! Sadly didn't ride all the coasters but I rode as much as I could.
When I was at Cedar Point Rougarou sounded way louder than Raptor tbh, but neither of them are as loud as Georgia Scorcher.
Diamondback is the loudest B&M I’ve ever heard
It sucks Orion had sand put in the track, it sounded so gooood. It makes that same clicking sound as Diamondback
@KIKoasterKid Fury too. I wish it didn’t have sand either
Here's what I think of all of the different B&M's I've listened to:
*Afterburn:* Extremely loud, just like a jet plane! I consider that theming XD 9/10
*Banshee:* (At my home park) This coaster isn't loud, but you can definitely feel it in your chest. Like it's not a roar, it's like a subwoofer blasting you in the face with bass. 8/10
*Batman: The Ride:* Only referring to the one at Great Adventure because it's the only one I've ridden, but I'd say this coaster is loud for what its size is. It's small but mighty! 5/10
*Bizarro:* This coaster's roar actually surprised me when I heard how loud it actually was. I was expecting Banshee levels of loud, but it was much more than that. It sounds like Rougarou except it's a bit louder. 8/10
*Diamondback:* (At my home park) Loud, but most of that comes from the clicking sound it makes at the bottom of the first drop. 6/10
*Dragon Challenge:* Yep. I've had the pleasure of hearing both of the dueling B&M inverts when they still existed. And both of them are actually pretty quiet from what I remember. The wheels sounded like snakes, and the roar itself was pretty dampened like Diamondback is after it first opened to the public. 5/10
*Fury 325:* Pretty average. It just sounds loud because it goes super fast. Otherwise, this ride is more fun than it is to ride than listen to! 4/10
*Gatekeeper:* This ride doesn't have a roar, it has a can of spray paint inside its spine! 1/10
*Green Lantern:* Not super loud, but definitely my favorite sounding one because it sounds like a wailing ghost! 10/10
*Incredible Hulk:* Older version was louder (I think everyone who's heard it in real life can agree with me on this one XD) and the updated version should've gotten a roar, but they said NOPE. 1/10
*Intimidator:* The same level as Diamondback, but except smoother (like less clicking sounds) 6/10
*Kumba:* Do I need to say anything? 10/10
*Montu:* This ride doesn't roar too loud, but what's loud are the bangs this coaster makes when it traverses through its layout. Definitely one of the weirdest things I've heard from a B&M, and also the biggest mystery to me because I don't know what causes them. 6/10
*Nitro:* Can't really hear it most of the time, because the entire coaster is in the woods, but at least Diamondback comes back and interacts with you. But I heard it while out in the parking lot, and it sounds great! 7/10
*Orion:* (At my home park) Sounds pretty cool. Reminded me a lot like Fury but except a little louder. 5/10
*Raptor:* (At my home park) I've heard this thing's overpowering roar so much I'm desensitized by it, but it is without a doubt one of the loudest and scariest roars from B&M. In my ranking, it sits under one coaster. I bet you can guess which one it is lol. 9/10
*Rougarou:* (At my home park) If this coaster was still Mantis, I would EASILY put it in the top spot. But now it's more than average for a roar I look for in a B&M. That's definitely not a bad thing at all though! I love Rougarous roar! And it's one out of the only 3 floorless coasters I know that roar, This, Bizarro, and definitely the loudest one of them all, Scream. 7/10
*ShieKra:* I can compare this with 2 different trips. One in 2006, and one in 2017. 2006 before it became a floorless dive, wasn't loud, but it definitely was unique. I can't really describe it to the minor details, but it definitely sounded very chilling and creepy. Honestly, I was young at the time so I wouldn't remember too much about it. 2017 sounds like a gigantic cobra hissing at you with a touch of bass XDD 6/10
*Superman: Ultimate Flight:* Only comparing to Great Adventure again because it's the only Six Flags I've been to. Superman was another coaster that surprised me because I wouldn't imagine any flying coaster having a roar, but it does. It mostly sounds like a large snake with unlimited breath XD, but it isn't super loud tho. 4/10
*Valravn:* I can compare this with most of what I said about ShieKra, but except it's a little bit quieter. Dive coasters tend to have that same sound built into them for some reason. 5/10
And that's it! I know this was a lot to write, but I love talking about these things because sounds are my favorite aspects of going to amusement parks! Thank you for taking the time to read this (if you did), and I would love to hear your opinions about the ones you've heard!
@@OmacK550 I’ve just heard Scream in other videos! You KNOW when a B&M has a powerful roar when you can hear the fierce vibrations in the spine. I’ve heard it on Raptor and Kumba in person!
I bet there are really loud. These are only coasters I’ve been on. Definitely gotta get down to Cali and ride Scream one day
I guess the only good thing about trim brakes on Hypers and Gigas it that it doesn't make the coaster roar ear-splittingly loud
Nothing like a B&M roar baby 💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️🎢🎢🎢🎢
Great Bear has a very cool roar it sounds like a bear on the straight piece of track before the Immelmann
2:52 Diamondback sounds godley
Ikkkkk 🥰
Waiting in line for Joker at Great America while hearing the roar of Batman right next to it is always awesome.
Leviathan and Behemoth are both loud as heck, but Leviathan is the loudest B&M in the park :D
The loudest b&m I’ve heard was Georgia Scorcher
Wait til you hear the raptor on an empty train lol
Ooo bet.
B&M roars are also cause by the wheels. Raptor in 2022 their wad 2 trains that where quit and barely made any noise but the third one was WAY much louder than the other 2.
Yea the nylon wheels are a lot louder than polyurethane. Leviathan is the same way. In the summer it’s a lot quieter and when they switch out the wheels for the fall it becomes noticeably louder
Medusa at sfga is the loudest Coaster ever
I LOVE the roars
Orion: smallest giga, but the mightiest. Cannot wait to ride my home giga for the first time!!
Both Leviathan and Orion sounds way louder than fury
Yes they are wayyy louder than Fury325
Agreed same with diamondback
@@iceblade019 fury’s first drop is just as loud as leviathans first drop. Just to mention
@@ApexRollercoasters Levi’s first drop has sand in it, the rest of the layout doesn’t, so the drop isn’t that loud
Riddler's Revenge @MagicMountain is definitely louder then all coasters on this list
Kumba in competition
For real, you can it from down town LA. 🤣 🤣 🤣 I couldn't get over how loud that thing was my first time hearing it.
As a Magic Mountain Local, confirmed
nemesis has the best B&M roar imo. if you stand in the valley while its running youd know what i mean
Hellllooooooooo
@@Emoticono13 Hahaha hi
Which coaster is the last one (6:16)? o.o sounds almost like a spacecraft
The last one is Orion!
Thanksalot!
Great bear is the loudest
The loudest B&M I’ve heard is definitely Bizarro. I actually have to mentally prepare myself even when I stand next to it. That’s how loud it is.
lol. That’s awesome. I love loud coasters. I hear a great memory so I’m able to remember what Leviathan sounds like as it goes through its layout. 😂
Medusa (bizarro) is also the loudest one I’ve ever heard it’s deafening
@@BRISTOLFORCE2009 Fr?
I have literally never felt that about bizarro. Maybe it's because it is next to eltoro which is furious sounding so anything sounds tame compared to that.
So the “Roar” comes from the track or from the trains? I know some track are filled with sand to help with the noise but is the noise track or train?
The roar is caused by the hollowness of the spine of the track as the train runs over it
That's why raptor has a roar
Raptor the dinosaur
One of the Coasters ive ridden at Alton Towers called Nemesis reborn. Even though its track is filed with sand it still has that classic B&M roar
Raptor has a fine roar. some parks have to fill up the track with sand so as not to disturb the neighbors. it's a shame really
Like Alpengeist at Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Many parks don't have to but choose to in order to preserve the integrity of the area the ride is in. Manta, for example, which is right at the front of the park where ts supposed to be nice and they don't want constant roars.
Riddler's Revenge should be in the top 3...
every enthousiast can enjoy some B&M non sand filled roar's
Gatekeeper could be used for a White Noise app
I took a friend to cw for the first time ans they thought there was a plain , i had to explain it was leviathan
Lol that’s acc funny! When I come to watch testing during preseason, the planes always trick me. I think a Leviathan is cycling but it’s not. It’s just a plane
Dragon Khan at PortAventura is quite definitely the loudest B&M I've seen. It can sometimes even be heard from the front of the park. Great video by the way!
I can tell you from personal experience that although B&Ms don't sound that loud on video, they are a hell of a lot louder in person. I stood next to Medusa at Discovery Kingdom shortly before going on it (awesome ride, btw) and even that one was really loud.
They are wayyyy louder in person which is awesome!!!!
Medusa at great adventure is deafening so I agree
Kumba was literally MEANT to be loud. without a doubt the loudest b&m
@Beast Coasters kumbas name in Swahili literally translates to "roar" 😭😭😭😭😭
When i went on flight deck on cga its hella loud u can hear from the other side of the park and in parking and when im in line i have to prepare my ears everytime it passes overhead
Nemesis at alton towers roars like a lion, stand next to the downwards helix and you may just lose your ears
Orion’s roar sounds cool
Ikkk I love it
When B&M hypers like Diamondback and Behemoth make that noise after flattening out of the first drop, why is that???? I've always been curious about that noise, especially with Behemoth, since that noise is found throughout the ride.
I think it's the anti rollback, but don't hold me to it.
@@lallen3442 That definitely makes the clicking noise, but does that account for the extra roar that is amplified going through the flat part? If that makes sense. At 2:53
@@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan No, it wouldn't cause an extra roar, just the clicking. At least I don't believe.
@@lallen3442 Yeah i wouldn't think so. Dang I'm so intrigued at what that is 😁
Tony Kim that part at 2:53 is definitely the B&M rattle. The wheels make that noise. Behemoth makes the same noise
I’ve always wondered what that clicking sound that diamondback made on its drop.
That’s the wheels smacking the track I think 😂
@@thrillwarriorDam, if it’s really that it makes the ride a lot louder.
It’s just the chain dog and anti roll back on the train slamming down
@@kquttersanford3635I feel like it would really damage the cross-ties then
@@kquttersanford3635it’s actually the upstop and the road wheels when coming down from that great B&M airtime
The loudest is diamondback in my opinion
(4:22 what is that coaster?)
Katun at Mirabilandia in Italy!!! It’s an awesome coaster! Extremely loud too 😂
Oh
loudest roar ive ever heard was the afterburn roar at carowinds. can be heard all across the park over other coasters, and surprisingly vortex is also pretty loud as well
This was my first favorite coaster back when it was called Top Gun. I used to say it sounded like a fighter jet. Felt like a dogfight too 🤙🏾
The loudest B&M’s I heard were Raging Bull and the original Batman
I’m in southern California, and at magic mountain the combination of riddlers and Superman’s roars is brutal 📢
(And yes I know Superman is an intamin but but it’s stil loud as f*ck)
I agree
I’m surprised Fury325 isn’t on this at all when you are even walking into the entrance at Carowinds that roar when it pulls out of the drop is loader then leviathan up close
These are only coasters I’ve been on haha. I can imagine it’s pretty loud. Levi’s pull out isn’t crazy loud anymore because it has a tunnel and the track was filled with sand in that place. Levi used to be insanely loud
You need earplugs to queue for Riddler's Revenge. You can hear it from the entrance at SFMM.
I've done 37 B&Ms and Riddler is by far the loudest.
Out of all these, I've only ridden Katun...and I can assure you, you can hear that roar from the other side of the park
Yessss 🤩🙌
Have you guys heard of Riddler's Revenge in Magic Mountain?
@@SadyTheCV2Bunny yes I haven’t been to MM yet
The loudest B&M I’ve heard was green lantern at six flags great adventure
Edit: Medusa (great adventure) is louder
The incredible hulk coaster is king of the B&M roar
Oh
6:19 Why does Orion sound like a plane
Ikr it doesn’t sound like that anymore cuz they changed to polyurethane wheels
Unfortunately Nemesis will be losing its iconic roar at the end of 2022 season! It's having a complete retrack with it being sand filled to reduce noise 😑
Noooo that’s sooo sad! Same thing happened to Leviathan in 2013. It used to be so much louder’
I am surprised After Burn didn’t make this list. I think that’s the The loudest B&M ever made. Most the B&M that are not loud like Leviathan are sand filled.
I love banshees roar
Loudest for me is Afterburn at Carowinds
Orion sounds like a Boeing 747 at full thrust
Rougarous and Raptors roar
I put this video in the description of my new one I uploaded of B&M’s Quiet Roller Coasters
in real life great bear roar is way louder you can hear it from the brake run on candymonium sometimes
the last ones sound almost like shuttles
Forgot to put riddlers revenge on here 💀 rides so loud I hear it from my house and still have to hear it every day operating the ride
I bet it’s loud. These r only coasters I’ve ridden tho
GateKeeper's quiet as a mouse
Whenever I ride kumba I become deaf for 60 seconds
Flight Deck at cga is pretty loud!
I didn't realize Orion was so loud.
I was running with nylon wheels which make it louder. I haven’t heard it in person but I hope it’s the same as it is in this video.
Rougarou is extremely loud when you stand next to the bottom of the drop
Louder than raptor this year 🥲
@@thrillwarrior yep CP dampened then both I think.
😓
Why is kumba not number 1
It definitely would be but I do t have footage of it since I haven’t ridden it in
4:20 Is that Katun?
Yesssir. My favourite B&M invert. Ride it last summer. It has the best of Banshee and Raptor. Banshees height and Raptors whippy inversions
Wheres Riddlers revenge at sfmm???
I haven’t been on it yet but I’ve seen it in videos and it’s very loud. This video only contains coasters I’ve ridden with the exception of Orion
I have ridden it just recently a week ago and is very loud. If youre walking in or near the metropolis area, you can most definitely hear it. Not to mention that the coaster gets in so close making you go deaf in the queue. To me, this is the second loudest coaster in the park, just behind Superman.
Nolan Walks
Both Alpengeist and Griffon are louder irl
Bro after burn is a lot louder than raptor
I haven’t ridden Afterburn! These are all coasters I’ve ridden with the exception of Orion cuz I was supposed to ride that this year
It’s a shame that they are starting to loose their signature sounds
Ikr they are filling rails and supports with sand now :(
Little Lodge
Why are some B&M roars louder than others? :o
Gatekeeper and Yukon Striker have sand in the rails
@@thrillwarrior Yeah I know, but mainly like the B&Ms from like the 90s like Raptor, Flight Deck, etc.
Not sure tbh. Could be the difference in speed or wheels used is another factor Ik
