Hi Thomas! My wife is pregnant so I’m looking for a premium suv between 40-60K with really comfortable ride over bumps and good noise insolation for motorways. Last week I tried lexus NX but I was hugely disappointed with noise insolation at 120km/h…
Hi Thomas , any information about Tiguan R , 333 hp ? Thank You.
Hi, What about turning off the engine while driving ? What the Dealer said ? I have the same problem
The price is absolutely insane 🤯
70k€... WTF ?!?
For a mid diesel engine...
Tiguan was one of the best SUV out there in Europe, always a bit pricey ok but for a great combo Price/equipment/quality/power.
Now it's not anymore.
yep, more expensive than electric vehicles.
VW need to keep their shareholders happy somehow.
In Croatia, 1.5 eTSI Life Plus model with additional Winter package costs 37k. Just ordered one to replace my 6yrs old Kia Sportage.
No, starting price for the new Tiguan is 37,000€ for a 1.5 eTSI (gas) or 41,500€ for the 2.0 TDI (diesel). Starting price for the R-line 2.0 TDI SCR 4MOTION is 56,000€ and 58,000€ for the plug-in hybrid 1.5 eHybrid version. It's a bit less than 70,000€ for a fully speced R-line.
The problem is the trend thats going on right now. Something new is coming out, so it must be more expensive than the previous generation. You can see this trend everywhere: cars, hardware, electronics, even groceries, everything is getting more and more expensive, whilst the (build)quality is rapidly going down.
Wait one year and get the Jahreswagen. I got my 2022 Tiguan Allspace R-Line for almost 40% less than the original price. It already has 36000km in it when I bought it but feels and drives like new.
😊 Dison in the trunk just shows how Thomas is a REAL car guy!! Cleaning the car before filming is huge sing of respect for his viewers!!! 👏👏👏
cheers m8 =) Fresh car wash + vacuum
@@autogefuehl 😊
The older body design looked better. This looks like a Suzuki.
No way - stop smoking...
Good news, its still for sale, and cheaper.
70k€ ?? Insane. 😢
A highly predicable lament for every car in every review regardless of type and class.
I prefer the older generation look. The older car looks more premium and has a presence. This design just screams cheap chinese EV
I thought exactly the same...
What exactly bothers you?
Chinese comment! Hahaha
@thore8978 it's lost that more square, stancey look. It's alot more rounded, much more like the peugeots and other brands SUV's. The last 1 looked distinctive compared the other, "less premium" brands.
@@Stimm002I still would take this much better aerodynamic and have that more manly shape just on my fridge
I was happy with the tow bar demonstration assistant being in front of the camera!
A very congenial girl, indeed!
Two things. It looks ok but lacks VW DNA in the design. It looks much like 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. Another thing is this enormous screen. It gets ridicules! Hope new NCAP regulations will bring buttons and dials (so much more ergonomic) and reduce slightly screen sizes. I think (my opinion only) something between 10 and 12 inches is the sweet spot.
Presentation as always on the highest level. 👍
The standard screen in the new Tiguan is 12,9 inch, which I also ordered. For most people the 15 inch is ridiculous
2014 Mitsubishi outlander? Get some glasses mate lmao
@@TheEchelon Look at the pictures and compare. Mate. They are not identical twins but...
This is just madness.. Tiguan for 70k, Yaris Cross for 35k... Probably my next car will be bike
Urinal gray 🥳👍
I was wondering if anyone else heard that.

What did you say? 70k? No way! Excuse me guys, but what kind of price is that? For what?
That's normal, all prices have gone up and this is the most expensive version of the car, the car has everything built in that the series offers, this car can keep up with any Audi, Mercedes or Bmw. that's okay.
@@thore8978 This is NORMAL? Are you for real? Lol.
@@simonrajh show me a cheaper car with all this functions and such an engine.
@@thore8978 i guess there are always customers that will pay whatever companies want 🤣
Even Thomas was surprised over 70k... but u r behaving like its normal price lol.
@@simonrajh okay look; I have just configured the Peugot 3008, which now costs 59k euros with every option picked, but this is not a sports version (because there is none) without a glass roof, without an electric tailgate, without a cool wireless charging function etc. etc. The base model of the Tiguan is of course also significantly cheaper, the point is that everything is installed in the model shown.

Only have the hybrids and 1,5 petrol e hybrids plus 1 x 2ltr tdi 150ps in the uk ... no awd or 2ltr petrols
Is it confirmed that the PHEV Tiguan will have 100+ km of range.
Wish the PHEV had AWD. Anyone know if that will be available later?
I'm failing to find the petrol 2.0 options even in the German configurator, so it seems like the only AWS option is the 2.0 Diesel, and that's it.
Without USB C for dashcam 😵💫 OMG
The equivalent of 70K Euros in Canada will get you a 2024 X3 M Competition. Why are prices insane everywhere!?
Inflation. And yes, it is everywhere. Not just cars.
Loaded SQ5 here in America.
@@burddog0792 crazy right!
Seriously, they made the Tiguan a bulkier ID3 asking for 70 thousand euros. I'm sure I can afford a base Porsche with this money. Great review though
No the Porsche and all cars are becoming more expensive, in relative relationship it stays the same. The higher prices are due to CO2 policies & regulations, inflation and the fact that more and more features are becoming standard. Like with this new Tiguan it only comes with DCC (automatic gearing). That is a quite new development for Europe
@@mlohr1 I didn't doubt them becoming 'more' expensive. I pointed out that buying the specific one will require a fortune to do so. I'm European and I'm aware of what they do. In my country, the 911 range starts from €100.000, where as the average house price locally is around €280.000, which pretty much sums up what I wanted to point out
@@mlohr1 apart from the fact that most people don't need the DCC crap, unless they're some fancy "Fans" princess that wants to keep their bottom round when coming back to mom and dad on a very poor rural road.
Many "optional" things that are included in the new cars are just useless, but make the car more expensive.
who spent 70k for a tiguan should have a brain check😂
Welcome to 2024 bud, that’s just how new car prices are.
It’s not even a Tiguan R. The price is outrageous specially VW supposedly should be cheaper in EU
Great video as always. I was surprised how quiet the cabin is while driving on the Autobahn especially with the TDI engine. 70,000 euros equals $76,000 US! That's amazing.
VW latest models to be honest are very ugly overall, including even Golf 8. They start to look like Toyata's. And now Toyata seems to be improving a bit, which is ironic.
Also, all these, climate controls with swiping, instead of clicking, seems so cheap and unsafe.
I hate the big slab of black plastic that dominates the dashboard. Looks very cheap.
Carmakers just can't get away from the piano black. I guess its meant to dazzle buyer on the showroom floor. But be warned, those covers don't take long before the get scratched and will look horrible.
@@krane15
They could use varnished wood instead. It’s just a cheap option.
@@krane15 It doesn't even look good when it's new with no scratches, dust, and fingerprints.
Thomas and Leah, I so enjoy your in depth reviews on new car’s. What I especially enjoy is when Thomas goes into great technical detailed analysis of the amazing technology and engineering of German car’s. In my opinion Germany makes the best cars in the world. I have been fortunate enough to have had 4 BMW’S cars over the years- superb cars- especially the 3 series. I have been on the autobahn at speed just INCREDIBLE! Anyway Excellent viewing guys.Thank you both.take care. 🇦🇺
Thanks for new video Thomas! I much prefer the prev generation, it looks more aggresive and blocky. I like the gave back real buttons on the steering wheel, now just to change back the AC controls. Also, the centre armrest looks so tacky for the price point. I don't understand how you can pay so much for a vehicle and it looks so bad. It doesn't even look like a premium vehicle.
Rear AC control unit looks like installed into a cheap aliexpress middle console. The doors look cheap and nasty. My gf drives the previus gen 2.0Tsi and it looks way more premium than this!
I want buttons, NOT touch!
Im sure this new design will give Skoda sales a good boost.
Great review. You made me chuckle when you were talking about 'the colour gey was the most popular in Germany' and you're stood there in - gray trainers, grey pants and a gray top! 🤣👍
I enjoyed that, especially back to back with the Renault Rafale review.
Both Tiguan and Rafale as reviewed have some kind of adaptive suspension. The Rafale also had the AW Steering. From memory the Rafale as reviewed cost somewhere between €50k and €60k, whereas this Tiguan costs €75k and is not even an EV with all that battery cost. I suspect I would hate the Rafale suspension which will be too Gallic for me, but the AW steering is quite a stunner at the price. We can quibble about the relative merits of each car’s looks, interiors, and UI/UX but I think VW needs to look quite hard at the Rafale.
70K 😳 no way, not for me!
Maybe Mazda CX-60.
Really sharp. The trailer ball is a great idea.
Absolutely lovely
If you have the opportunity, please make a quick review of the Tiguan with 2.0 tsi 265hp 👀
kia implementation for all smart and digital features is way better than most of European companies, just drove the kia Sorento and wow what a car for 2024 model
JFC this car after conversion is 100k Canadian that is ludicrous, hopefully it's not that bad when they do bring it to North America and build it in mexico 😆
We don't get the higher model in Canada. It currently tops of at 48k for the r-line.
Thank you so much for your presentation, is highly appreciated especially that you take a critical approach in reviewing cars. Please let me know your opinion on what will be your pick between VW Tiguan and Renault Rafale. Please comment also on the insulation of the two cars and smoothness of the engine. thank you so much.
Cheers! Engine and Insulation is surely better with the Tiguan, if you want to pay the extra price. Rafale is consistently animal free in the interior what is very important to me
TIGUAN. BEST CAR
Volkswagen- Das Reiches Auto
Car prices are ridiculous now ☹️, great review though again
I looking to expect 10 year financing any day now. Otherwise, no one will be able to afford them except the rich.

@@krane15 I don’t think they want us owning cars everything is going pay monthly 😕
@@RovexHD even monthly payments are getting crazy though for even small cars
Are you going to do a review of the updated Skoda Enyaq at some point Thomas? 😊
Ideal Tiguan would be previous model front face, new model everywhere else and especially previous model pricing. Current pricing for vehicles has gone insane.
In the end, is the DCC Pro worth it?
What about the rattling reports regarding the DCC Pro, did you noticed anything?
How are the vented massage seats?
You have to be fair regarding the price, this is an R line with all specs. With BMW X1 you don’t even get adjustable rear seats and forget about vented seats with real massage function in X1, X2, X3, X4. So in fact, you get what you pay for. If you don’t want all these specs you can get a Tiguan for €40,000 as well.
People don't get that or don't want to acknowledge it.
People want a tiguan for the price of a VW Up!
Thomas, enjoyed watching your video, great review. Grüß von Charlotte, NC!
70k its simply madness
Thanks for the nice review! Keep up the good work.
You should do an comperission with BMW X1 2024 vs VW Tiguan since the price from the VW Tiguan is around 70k
Thanks! Yeah we could do that
I remember years ago some manufacturers used to put felt on the underside of the front and back central consoles. Why would they let that unsightly plastic with their unsightly grooves exposed ? Reminds me of rear boots with uncovered metal omitting the felt lining.
I'm getting my new Tiguan R-line Tdi tomorrow. This review got me more hyped!
Model Y is way way better fammily option
Better price
Bigger car
Better performance
More standard features
Better Tech
Ah, yes, this is why Model Y was No1 sales in 2023 in Europe, vw's home, and in entire world

@@ironbolt2678 better for most Europe's buyers at least ( VAG' homeland - useless to say I previous had 2 Passats. But now VW are way way too expensive)
Hi Thomas, do you have any information back from VW about the "Key not in the car" issue? I saw report from one Tiguan's owner about the situation happened to him and I am a bit afraid of that. It looks like his car suddenly lost the power and the break become stiffer. I do not know how many units are affected but it looks very serious.
I suppose is is going to be a good car. But, the design? And about pricing... no comment :-D

That price is absolutely insane. A fully loaded SQ5 would be less money here in America.
2:41 Surprised you didn't point out that misaligned badge.
At least 20% of the price in Europe is sales tax. That's why it's more expensive there.

Always a pleasure to watch your reviews, and Leah does an excellent job filming! You didn't ask for it, but the "park uhr" is called a "disque de stationnement" (parking disk) in French 😉
Climate control knob and/or buttons should be compulsory. It's downright dangerous to have to stare at a screen to demist the windscreen. 😮
It looks so Chinese such a disappointment
When you look at the ugly stuff from BMW and others, the Chinese are now trend setters.😂

I'm sure it's a lot of work but Thomas has a pretty cool job: travelling with your girlfriend (fiancée) reviewing cars for a living! Also, it may just be the parasocial aspect of UA-cam but I find the way they interact quite adorable
Not sure why you are so shocked with the price, because here in South Africa, the cost of a Tiguan R is around €55 000. Of course, this is a lot of money, but it's not far off what we currently pay for cars here in South Africa. 🇿🇦 Bare in mind that this is the previous generation Tiguan. Imagine how much the new Tiguan will be when it arrives in South Africa.
This is the R line…not the R….R Lines are about ZAR 800k with extras..€40 to 45 k…still a lot for us…The R is the top model you speak of…
So this is super expensive….the reason he is shocked….
The 2.0tdi is no longer in Tiguan in SA…only inAudi Q5 which is about €65k here….plus extras….
Interesting to see what the prices will be… we have current model…amazing car…..
As a %of wallet, cars are becoming insane in SA…hence all the Chinese cars…
Do all German cars come from Europe, or are they built elsewhere.
@RovexHD nope...they have factories all over....Mercedes
And VW have factories in South Africa..and many other countries ..is all about tax breaks and globalisation...If memory serves, the Touateg/Q7/Cayenne /Urus factory is in Hungary..1st gen Amarok was built in Argentina...2nd gen in South Africa ( at Ford plant) ..C class Mercedes for USA are built in South Africa too...
Each manufacturer ( depending on volumes) will have plants in places like China and North America......
This is a fascinating industry and once one realises which Nissan/Dacia/Renaults are the same car or which VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat/Porsche/Ford are the same car it becomes obvious..
Here in South Africa we pay insanely high prices ( relative to our eranings and currency )on cars due to huge import duties that protect the local industry.. a VW Touareg is now more than a 2 bedroom apartment in most of the country ..
@@RovexHD There’s a major VW factory here in South Africa building some right hand drive models.
A Tiguan in boring Grey.
The average Germans dream car.
the engine in the title would be nice instead of the equipment line but great video as always😊
Thanks Thomas!
Are Vw over pricing their ice cars to compensate for the losses on their electric cars ?
Have similarity to Seat Cupra Formentor.
23:50 It's indeed tough pillow to swallow 😂 Joking aside, pricing is weird once again. During the pandemic there were literally 0 discounts, but now we are back to pre-pandemic discount mayhem.
Quick example, few days ago I specced a M340 xdrive touring with lots of options, and since it is end of life etc, I got 28% discount of the configurator price. So list price can't be trusted, unless everyone starts doing it the Tesla way - the price is what you see in the configurator, no discounts. You may have a discount if you buy from available stock.
But then again, humans like the feeling of "getting a deal", so manufacturers might be bumping the price, so they can offer discounts and actually sell the cars for the desired price that way.
On the other hand, these insane list prices will likely discourage a lot of people from even visiting a dealership in the first place...
Just because a car has an animal-free interior does not mean that it is automatically super climate-friendly and much better (and softer than leather...). Alternative materials and synthetic fabrics etc. contain a lot of chemicals and material mixes (including recycled materials, of course) - which doesn't mean that the new material can be (re-)recycled super well after its life cycle. Leather is very durable, natural and not always much less comfortable. Everyone should be able to make their own choice.
Thomas is an animal rights advocate. Don't get him started.
Real leather hide is always heavily treated.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ua-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/v-deo.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ua-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/v-deo.html

For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ua-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/v-deo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest:

In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars.
We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

The pricing is a bit crazy for a Tiguan. This isn't a luxury car from a luxury brand. It doesn't even offer a 3rd row for the high price. Can't imagine how much the Tayron will cost.
Find it hard to justify the price when the facelifted Tucson and new Santa Fe exist with great interiors and value for money. The Santa Fe also offers a 3rd row for the same or lower price.
a car can not be fit to drive if it slams on brakes while driving because it claims it cant find the key
70k euro? 😂😂😂
I’m not clear on transmission. Is this Tiptronic? If so how do you shift should you want to downshift manually? It can’t be very easy with control on steering wheel as opposed to center console.
Manuals are dead and they're not coming back. Maybe you mean paddles which are gimmicks.
DSG you can manually shift with the paddles on the steering wheel
Thank you.
that rear bumper with the fake vents is really ugly. i’m so confused as to why someone at Volkswagen would allow that bumper on a production Tiguan.
Waiting for this in AUS and i bet it will be a fair bit cheaper here, because at euro70k /AU$110k , the r-line wouldn't sell here. AU$80k max. Current r-line 162tsi is about euro40k here. Incredible how VW's are always cheaper here, than in Germany.
Are AUS prices including VAT? Because in EU they are, in the US for example they're not, hence why they seem much cheaper. Though, to be fair, they're still cheaper in the US, even after adding tax, just not by that much 😅.
I think I’ll go into the felt covering business. 😊 Great review, thank you.
👍😁
I assume this is the European short wheelbase version? The US got a longer wheelbase before. Will that be the same with this newer model?
The Tiguan All space Version longer wheelbase will be a new car, the VW Tayron. Is coming next year I Think.
*normal wheelbase, and in europe there was also a long wheelbase of the second gen Tiguan. but the us won't get the next gen Tiguan. it will be the next gen Tayron, which is based on the new Tiguan.
The US will not have this Gen3 Tiguan in its LWB form. However the upcoming Gen2 Tayron will be renamed as Tiguan in the US market. Note the Gen1 Tayron is a specified model for Chinese market, with wheel base between Gen2 Tiguan SWB and Gen2 Tiguan LWB.
Logic is as follows, it is complicated:
Tiguan for EU (5-seater), built in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Tayron for EU (7-seater), built in Wolfsburg.
Tayron for China (5-seater), built in China.
Tiguan for US (5-seater) is basically a modified Tayron without additional seats and built in Mexico.
We are keeping u updated and will also present the US Tiguan as soon as possible.
Thomas what do you advise Tiguan or Touareg?
Took this model for a test drive. Utterly underwhelmed, went with BMW instead.
Great as always thomas! The Tiguan is way to expensive for what it is. You get a full packed Ford Kuga PHEV 2024 Model for 10k less and 20% pricedrop on top. VW is overrated imo.
Its not overrated. You get what's expected. It is overpriced, however. But someone says that about every car in ever car review.
Thomas - bring back our drinking Game, with the car length lol
I heard the US Tiguan R line will be $45,000 my 2022 R line was $38,000.00 not crazy about the new front end.
The what grey?!
70.000 k...WOW...LOL...🤣🤣🤣🤣
Like many in the comments I am surprised by the 70 kEUR - a 2022 US model -so larger - AWD SEL Premium R line maxed out at 40kUSD. Granted I believe the engines are different but still
I'm not a fan of cars with "sporty" packages to have hidden exhausts.......
They call it a feature not a fault 😂 if you complain.
70k! In that way, Chinese cars will dominate the market real soon...
Which gray is it again, Thomas? 0:19 🙄
Urano gray
Urinal
I heard urinal grey and right now, where are these grey urinals VW have copied haha
I kinda like the design, but the plastic door card top at 70K is just making fun of the customers. No way in hell is this worth that kind of money. Great review tho :)
Lovely car. Btw, in NL we also have the blue parking card
The price is going to bury this restyling, sadly.
Here in the UK you can get a top-spec XC60 hybrid which beats this car on most accounts but hybrid range, but costs £60k under Volvo Loan (50% down, 0% APR). Same as the top-spec Tiguan, at £59k but it's not even a fair comparison. And the engine pallet & lack of AWD on hybrid models is a huge miss.
i have 2 VW’s in my driveway. the price of the two vehicles together (new) were $63 000 CAD AFTER TAX.
Hello Thomas, thanks for review. I have 2018 Golf Alltrack 4motion TDI, and in 2-3 years I want to buy new 4motion. Golf would be perfect for me. Unfortunately they do not offer any more, maybe later. Tiguan is also the option, but actually in my country they offer this engine configuration only in expensive R-line trim. So maybe I should go for Leon Cupra TDI/4drive
