I can honestly say besides Ken being the kindest person on earth I can't recall Ken ever making a mistake during the 7 years I've played in Aborted.
Best thing is, I once asked: Hey dude, did you play something different on those fills/breaks last night? Ken answered: "I just improvise it everytime".
I swear seeing water burn wouldn't blow my mind as much as hearing those words.

Man I saw you together with Aborted a few years ago in hamburg, germany. That was one of the best and most intense metal live experiences I had in my whole life. Only rivaled by Meshuggah.

Thank you for picking out Ken! Your expression says it all :D. It's insane how skilled he is and makes it look like it's less effort than doing the dishes. There are some clips on youtube where Ken is playing some non-metal grooves if you are interested. Kohlekeller Studio got a video with some melodic stuff and sE Electronics got some demo soundbites.

Thanks for checking it out, Ken is incredible. I would have preferred the live in studio versions of songs, because the intricacies of his playing become more evident. But this shows his incredible power even better I guess.

Well, about the topic of triggers, he did actually use triggers for the bass drum but many people don't really know their use and how they work. It's got nothing to do with improving your technique, evening out the hits and stuff like that(cus I've heard people saying that nonsense). Quite the opposite. Triggers let everybody know if you've made a mistake during your performance because they cut through the sound wall of all other instruments.
Their use is purely to make the bass drum hits audible.
Ken is a big inspiration for me. It's awesome to see someone play with single strokes on the kick that fast and that clean. I can only dream of having singles that good one day!

Wohoo, i suggested this as well. Ken is certainly one of the best extreme metal drummers right now. The crazy thing is too, he is a multi instrumentalist. Big fan if his work and style.
Yeah... Ken's remarkable calmness and relaxation along whith absolute body control, while playing crazy fast and complex stuffs, is mantioned by every musician watchig him playing... He even manages to work with the hi hat pedal, while playing bass drums both feet. An absolutely unique drummer and the one of my favorites... ❤

I think you would really enjoy Tyler Coburn of Yautja/Thou, his abilities and tasteful use of interesting fills and single kick pedal technique is insane. Im not sure if there are drum cam videos of him, but i will look and comment one or two

I've been a drummer since i was 16, I'm 47 now. It took me the better part of those years to be able to play drums as quick and as technical as this drummer here. I've never seen Aborted live, that'll change this coming june when they tour with a band that dare i say is faster, heavier and more technical in Archspire. I completely understand your astonishment at the skill level of this and every other extreme metal drummer. And yes, I've always been amazed at the fact that this is a human playing this, not a machine or computer. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction video and your comments during and after this video. Drums, guitar, bass, I got a violin for him as a joke to see if he’d be good at it and the dude picked it up - having never touched one before - and I swear to God he played it beautifully. He writes a bunch of music, including non-metal stuff, too. 😊 As talented a human as he is, you’d be even more surprised by how down to Earth and really kind he is… you’d never know that talent resides in him w his humility. I have known Ken since he was born, from Chico, Ca. Shout out to friemds. I agree with you on the caliber of talent Mr Bedene has. His dsd, Frankie Swa Bedene is also a very tslented musicisn. Ken can play all forms of music and can play all instruments that are needed to make rock n roll. Ive been amazed watching for along time. His speed and precision and calmness is obviously amazing, but to me what really makes Ken stand out is that he has the best fills out of any extreme metal drummer I've ever listened to.

Hey Andrew, I want to suggest a drummer that you have reacted to already but it wasn't the best showcase of that band.
If you find the time then please have a look at Blake Richardson playing Ants of the Sky live. It also is a drum cam video so you can get a really good look! A masterclass in setting up new parts in songs, peak metal drumming and just all around enjoyable to watch.

I used to play in a death metal band and have toured and seen some of the best drummers on the planet come through Australia. Ken, is one of the most flawless ever, ever. Night after night, the consistency and everything to do with his playing, was beyond a joke.

@@AndrewRooneyDrums 5 bands played total and they were all great. Ov Sulphur, Angelmaker, Ingested, Aborted, then Lorna Shore headling and out of well over 100+ bands I've seen. LS put on one of, if not the best live show I've seen. A drummer to check out is Ingested's Lyn Jeffs

You have obviously already done most of the big names and greats in metal so I would like to throw in a lesser known.
Jason bowld, he has played in a variety of styled bands from extreme to even electronic music, bands like axewound , this is menace and my favorite pitchshifter, some of his equipment sponsor demos are mind blowing and some of his drum and bass style videos blew me away, a easy start would be “this is menace- return the favour , drum cam “ though . Or if you can find one of his old drum rom videos
Economy of motion! I knew in my playing, I'm working too hard - and this video is proof. This guy absolutely is crushing it without excess movement / wasted energy. Absolutely beautiful. I've seen others with some bits and pieces, but this guy is indeed impressive! Great recommendation and reaction.
Fulcrum - "air in your grip": I have just discovered this. Now on day 20-something of playing Stick Control single beat combinations 1-24 daily, and I have been trying to rid the death grip from my left hand - and now the stick is sliding up, sliding down, and getting dropped. lol. Always awesome when you mention something in a video I am working on - and it is a common problem. nice!
(as an aside, I'm enjoying the Drumeo pad (and sticks (insanely resonant!)) a heck of a lot more than I expected. Great purchase. Thanks for the recommend.)

One video for sure, and probably my favorite drumming video, is Jon Rice “Charn” - Unfurling the Darkened Gospel. He was the drummer for Job for a Cowboy… he makes the drums sound like an orchestra vs a drum kit.

I have selfie with him. I met him after this show in crowd when ho goes see another band. I love Butal Assault festival. It is located in a fortress from the 18th century and line up is always awesome. And it is about 20 km from my home! 😉
This is a great reminder that I should be listening to more Aborted, thanks for sharing! You should check out Entheos. They're a different style, but still heavy and technical. Their drummer Navene just put out a drum video for "Absolute Zero" that I'm sure will have all the good angles🤘🏻

You know I've been away from drums for ages now (no practice room unfortunately) but I've taken up lifting, and this is the equivalent of a guy casually squatting 800 pounds for reps.
I agree with you, the guy seems to have a good sense of groove too. Juicy fills. And indeed it's very rare to witness such double bass speed pulled off live and SO FREAKING CLEAN, as triggers will accentuate any sloppiness.
Just saw Aborted with Lorna Shore a couple of weeks ago and Ken was absolutely flawless.

Just saw them play in NYC about two weeks ago… its crazy how brutal yet calm he plays. 45 minutes of of being speechless. Well worth the price of a ticket just to see him play and Aborted of course !!!

Absolutely insane! So good and so relaxed. Love it. If you ever wanna expand your musical horizon, check out bands like Circle Takes the Square, PG. 99, Funeral Diner, Love Lost But Not Forgotten. Even if you don’t use them on the channel just have a listen. Not really extreme like this, but lots of interesting drumming.
