With Adam's Monsterverse movie, he changed it from where Kong and his kind just protected the inhabitants of Skull Island to being supposed "Guardians" of mankind (How does that work when he's causing just as much destruction as Godzilla in human population areas?). And there's his explanation for bringing Mothra back (Like this is supposed to be the mother of the one from Godzilla 2? Why not just have Her be the latest model?) and he changed it to where she was the defender of Skull Island somehow
