  • in this video we will create this a table and then we are going to apply or use the average function as a calculated field in our charts or tables from scratch so that you can get the awareness that when where and how we can apply the average function using calculated field
    And before we use this function, let's understand the average function first.
    So this AVG function in looker calculates the average value of a numeric field.
    Now in this function we have two parts
    Syntax → AVG(value)
    Parameters value - it takes a field or expression that evaluates to an unaggregated number.
    So The AVG function takes 1 parameter, which must be the name of a numeric field, or a numeric expression. And it returns the average for all values of that field or expression.
    You can't apply this function to a pre-aggregated field which means that the Aggregation is equals to Auto, or to an expression which is the result of another aggregation function.
    For example, a formula such as AVG(SUM(x)) will produce an error.
