Although this is not a product we sell, BMW F30’s halogen headlights tend to be quite problematic, so we thought you wouldn't mind a useful tutorial :)
Ready to get the work done? Remember to wear rubber gloves during the procedure or try not to touch the glass at all. The oil on your fingers might cause the bulbs to fail prematurely.

Really helpful video. Thanks. As others have said, you really need to remove the wheel as well. Even then, the hole is too small to get my hand in far enough. Poor design by BMW.

I tried replacing the bulbs in my ‘16 320i. Driver side wasn’t much of an issue but passenger side I absolutely could not get to seat properly. I spent three hours trying to get this bulb in. Ended up saying screw it and took it to the dealership to put in. At that point, I happily paid the $50 they charged to do it. There is absolutely no reason it should be this difficult to change a damn headlight bulb.
Nowadays it's a fricking nightmare to replace bulbs in most of the cars.
My headlights seem to be completely different.... When I twist the plastic cap off the housing, I don't see bulbs - I'm looking at the back of a case or housing. I get the same view from the wheel-well. There's no access to the bulb itself. 🤔Thoughts/inputs/criticsms appreciated (2016 F30)

Top Tip: Push metal clips outwards to release bulb DO NOT pinch and pull !

I can't get my bulb out at all. Stood here in ice and snow with my car apart and this guy makes it look so easy... The bulb is stuck

I had to loosen a set screw of some sort to then twist the bulb 1/8 turn clockwise. The set screw was torx. I was able to remove from the bulb from housing and pull the bulb out. I followed the reverse it worked. My car is a 16 320i xdrive. Terrible design on a headlight.
The low beam is a nightmare to take out! It’s better to remove the wheel.
the complete car is complicated....but I keep it as it is safe and good looking...but it is not funcional at all. everything is more complicated than it should be.

Yeah. The low beam example is extremely simplified. It’s a straight nightmare.
Very simple and easy way to tell how to change the beam lights , but can we install and coloured bulb ?
I got 318d m sport 2014 , shall i use the same method ?

In theory yes, since you will be replacing the bulb just like in our video however it would depend on the bulb you buy. We do not offer this product, only made this video to help the bimmer fans.
Are they the same bulbs for the headlights and the fog lights and do they have to be re-coded?
The bulbs for the front fog light are H8 ones. They should work without the need for any coding.

@@lauriegolden550 ... simply buy "error free" canbus H7 LED bulbs. You'll need four bulbs to replace hi's and low's

Do you know if the process is the same for the xenon headlights? I have the upgraded lights on my 2013 F30 and just had one of my low beams turn pink on me
The bulb replacement process should be identical for the xenon headlights.
is this the same way to change the Daytime running lights module ? one of it is not working in my F30 318i 2018
Definitely not. Your daytime running lights are LED, so you'd need to remove whole LED stripe. You can do it yourself, but we recommend going to the BMW dealer or specialized service :)

super angry that the base f30 in 2015 came w halogen bulbs. That said, should be easy enough to replace at least the high beams with h7 led bulbs and code the led lights with bimmercode. Can you please confirm? I know the car may show an error message if replacing halogen with led bulb, but bimmercode / coding it out should work.

Dread doing this everytime... maybe its time I upgrade my car to a later model with LED lights... and just maybe that was BMWs plan all along XD

We only wish the passenger replacement was as easy as this video makes it out to be, it’s a major pain in the azz
the same story with all the modern cars - the hardest thing is to change the light bulb lol

I love how I can't get a good angle to see what I'm doing and it tears my hand up to feel around in there. This engineering is absolute shit! Why would they make the fuckin HIGH BEAMS the easy ones to fix?
It wasn't one of BMWs brightest ideas. They should really come to light with a better design. At least this video will let you know how to do it so you're not left in the dark. Okay... I'm done.

I got a f30 lci with adaptive LED, my angels eye’s are now yellow ish. What can i do about it?
In this case you can change a lightbulb with a slightly different light color. Alternatively, the color might be affected by the lamp itself being dirty so you might try cleaning the lamps and see if it affects the light color.

Can anybody give me some more insight with this? Because it just doesn't pop out. It has to twist left or right. And I can't get it to seat no matter which way I twisted
Hey! Maybe u don't pin it correctly? We know that replacing headlight bulb should DIY job, but in modern cars it just isn't. Maybe go and visit your local mechanic, he shouldn't charge u a lot for this :)
For a 2016 340i with LEDs ( non adaptive ) is it the same procedure?
Yes, the procedure is identical, the only thing that’s different is the type of the bulb.
There is NO circular looking door thing when you remove that square door thing in fender liner...none
Now is probably a very good time to point out that the F30 halogens suck donkey balls.
With that out of the way;
Use gloves and a flashlight, friends. It’s messy up in there once you get all up close and personal.
What kind of bulb are they?
These are H7 light bulbs.

Ok. If you’ve tried what this video poorly describes, here is the info you really need. Read it all once before attempting.
1. Turn your wheel OUT not in. Unless you have hands and arms of an 8 year old girl, you will want the space.
2. Follow the direction to remove the two covers. Disregard the rest of the useless info given by video joker who pushes two fingers against the tire and magically it turns.
3. Take a few pictures with your cellphone using flash. Point into the hole. It will help you orient your fingers when you blindly finger the German opening that’s harder to get to than…. Well, the jokes write themselves here forward.
4. Note in the picture that there are 3 tabs holding the bulb in. You don’t simply pull the bulb out. You have to bend the tabs outward to release the bulb. Be sure to bend them back inwards when the new bulb is in. The tabs are located at 12, 4, and 8 clock positions. Do not remove the connector. Leave it on the bulb. Bending at least two tabs lets the bulb come out of the housing. Do so. The bulb will come out.
5. The old bulb is safe to touch. Don’t touch the glass on the new one unless gloved. Pull the bulb off the connector noting how the top tab aligns to the connector. On your new bulb it will be easy to tell the tab that goes at 12. Once connect, reach back in and carefully put the bulb back through the hole and click the tabs on. Bend them back if needed. Probe the hole first if you cannot easily find it. Take another pic if you need orientation.
6. Put the covers back on. Drink an American beer because F those German AHoles who made such a simple operation so stupidly complex.

We mention bending out the tabs for both bulbs, but we surely didn't think about probing holes! Great tip! I also used only one finger to push the wheel. Index finger strength is a great skill to have! I can currently push a G01 across a flat surface while it's in neutral! Baby steps.

Hello, could you provide your car’s VIN? In some BMWs there might be a necessity to remove it, as not all of them have this access panel.

@@bimmer-tech I was notified that u replied. Came here and clicked on the link to see the 2 replies from u but there's only 1. I'm confused. I should also mention when I checked again, it's my daytime headlight that isn't working. My blinker doesn't work either for the right front side but that's not new. My old 2002 325i had the same blinker out. Wasn't the bulb and my mechanic never DID figure it out either. Now all sounds are gone, pointing to a blown amp. Guess I'll be driving in silence for a while, bummer.

For f30 2012 3 series do i need a h7 499 or h7 447?
There should be no difference between both types of the bulbs.

Yeah if only it was that easy. Circle cover was stuck, had to break it off. Globe won’t just “come out”. The worst set up I’ve ever come across just to change a globe. BMW don’t want you to work on your car, so they make things difficult to do, so you take it to the shop!
