We need to appreciate that, years after dying on the battlefield in Iraq for our freedoms, James Whittle continues to serve by appearing in his father's dreams. He sacrifices his eternal rest to fight for our toll roads and to see this appropriations bill passed. A true patriot!
Come on, admit it. The carrying a part of his son's bloody uniform was absolutely beautiful. They have captured the exploitive heartless insensitive nature of politicians perfectly
This is exactly what that late night guy(jimmy kimmel? I might be wrong im not american) every time he brings up his son having a serious disease to support his case about the health system. Exploting of family for politics is disgusting even if you are supporting a good side
@@Enel97 I don't know I think it's alright to use a personal anecdote like that when its relevant to whatever cause you're advocating for. What's wrong here is that this dude's son's death is completely unrelated to the toll road, but if he was, for example, doing what the President does where he brings up his late son's exposure to toxic burn pits in Afghanistan in support for veteran healthcare that addresses those issues, then it makes sense.

I was moved by Mr. Whittle's speech, because I to have lost a son. Tony was suffocated in a tragic accident involving a badly aimed Cleveland Steamer, but I know that was the way he would have wanted to go. Now everytime I watch a Scat video I feel the presence of Tony and will be doing all I can to honour my son's memory through tireless dedication to chest centred defecation. Tony RIP.
I think it's one of their best because it's so realistic, this happens all the time, just not to this much of a level, and that's what made it hilarious.
Those insensitive pricks in the House should be ashamed for not passing this already. The man's son died in a war for crying out loud. Build the road, dammit. I can't believe they feel the need to debate this.
Once again The Onion has accurately captured the sincerity and sound thinking of our Congress at work. I think the Congressman would have doubled his chances for his toll road if he had just mentioned 9/11. Perhaps he's saving that for his sewer project. lol ONN forever!
Hilarious. Of all the touchy subjects the Onion does, this is one of the touchiest. It makes a good point, sometimes people take "war heroes" to a ridiculously sacred level.
"I always carry around with me here in Washington a piece of my son's bloody uniform..." lol I thought at first he was gonna say he carried a piece of his son around.
People thinking The Onion is real is such a great compliment to The Onion. All of their stuff looks so real. They do great work and they are HILARIOUS!
i for 1 care about them. that said, we used to have months were over 100 brave Americans would die so the violence is down dramatically and life is returning to normal there with most the population saying they feel safe, etc in a recent BBC poll. I do hope that the new 30,00 troops that Obama is sending to Afghanistan stay safe. It is more rough there than in Iraq now.
And the dream didn't specifically say that it was a toll booth created by the bill, just that his son liked being in the toll booth and liked that the bill had passed.
It isn't to offend, it is a play on the fact that lawmakers will use any excuse, no matter how inappropriate, to try and gain support and push their policies through.
This reminds me of a bit in a movie when a used car salesman has his dog play dead, then tells a potential buyer that the dog would have wanted him to buy the car.

This speech moved me to tears.
In the soldier's memory, we should construct the toll road and casino. Anyone who opposes sides with terrorists.
Support our Troops, get that toll booth built. God Bless America.
"James loved toll road,"he won me over to supporting the Bill when I heard that.
...and to that I say "My son died in a war..." The Onion is something else :D
"i'm so glad hr8768 passed"
"me too son"
lol
Now correct me if I'm wrong but I think he's only using his son's death to help pass that bill for lobbyists sakes...
King Mob well you’ve obviously never had a son die in Iraq fighting for his country if you think that’s the case
His son died in a war
Even after knowing how he keeps that bloodied uniform close to his heart. You heartless bastard
Makes total sense. Whenever I think of toll booths or toll roads, I think of dead soldiers.
and Toll Booth Willie!

I think we never really understand how much we love toll roads/booths until it's too late and we're dead. :-(
Politicians are so shameless. The best satire is based on truth- this is almost too real.
"to that I say: My son died in a war"
LOL
this is one of the funniest things ive ever seen
“and to that I say, ‘my son died in a war.’”
"And to that I say 'My son died in a war.'"
Perfect.
The only unrealistic part of this video is the idea that Virginia’s 7th District could’ve had a Democratic representative in 2009.

This is one of the most realistic portrayals of American government. Bravo!
In hindsight, they should have known that he never even had a son. But what are they gonna do? They already voted yes on the bill.
Rest In Peace James Whittle

It would just be anti American to not build that toll road at this point
I know this bill is not popular but as another long time lover of toll roads I plan to write my congressman and urge him to support it.
Wait! I thought the Onion was satire!! When did The Onion start reporting the real news????
"James loved toll roads" as most normal patriots do lololol
This man's a hero.
I hope this bill gets passed.
In times like these one realises the fine line between satire and political commentary.
i just saw james in a tollboth. Never seen a happier veteran
What's sad is that you are not the first. What is even more dispairing is the fact you won't be the last.
I understand, my long passed grandfather would have wanted that built too! lol

We must pass this bill in order to honor both our troops and the people who were lost on that tragic day.
If I was unaware of the Onion, i'd buy this Hook Line & Sinker- this is so well done.
WOW! Onion, HOME RUN! I can't begin to recount how many times I've heard stuff like that.
just the title makes me crack up
"James loved toll roads." lolllll
poor guy. i hope that bill gets passed for his son. have a heart congress
In the same dream he saw James at the slots...having a very enjoyable time, incidentally.

Wow you think is workin' that memory enough.

I love the way nobody is listening in the background!
may God bless him, and you.
No, I am compelled to stand up for those fallen heros who are unable to stand up for themselves.
Only a monster would deny his son's dream.
This is genius.

I most certainly will not.
I am compelled to stand up for those who died to protect us.
Its the right thing to do.

This makes a lot of sense, if you lack proper critical thinking.
I noticed it too.
They seem to have a lot of momentum still even after the election.
Hilarious! This is so true. Politicians will do anything to get their damn money.
You can't deny a guy his toll roll if his son died. Who could be so mean???
Yaayz!!! I think that Onion news would be more useful if it was on TV. =P

But we are still SO reluctant to do privatizations!

Uh-oh! Better take this one down, Onion! People are getting OFFENDED, and we can't have that! Not on THE INTERNET!
Congress would be heartless not to pass this bill. His son is dead for god's sake. DEAD!
Anyone know the name of that classical piece that plays at the end and the composer?
Onion: Hit or miss. This is a miss.
does someone know the piece of music in the end? and where it's from?
the acting was insane, it looked so real....... :)
Maybe the tactic will work to get more high speed rail built?

I think it's wrong for this politician to capitalize on his son's death to promote a toll road.
It isn't to offend, it is a play on the fact that lawmakers will use any excuse, no matter how inappropriate, to try and gain support and push their policies through.
I don't know what is worse, paying a lot to use a toll road, or paying higher taxes for clogged roadways that take years to repair by the government.
In this case I think he's referring to the Hotel Algonquin
