My buddy told me to check this anime out and to watch it knowing that anime is my comfort show. Let’s just say that I am going to get back at him for this.
@@jabbawookeez01 The "this is my hole" isn't from Uzumaki : It's from the Enigma of Amigara Fault. Both are Junji Ito's horror stories so the vibe is the same.
8:45 Javon's thinking of the Golden Ratio. It's basically an equation that forms a spiral that can be found in nearly all natural life on the planet, hence "The Golden Ratio".
"-And it spiraled out of control" and "type of fixation they focus on in their life" is actually so brilliant, I didn't realize that, and now I'm looking at Uzumaki manga & anime w/ a lot more weight, that was such a good insight!!
BTW, this series is gonna get so much weirder. If you end up enjoying it, definitely check out his manga. His short stories focus on single scary ideas. The unexplained, unstoppable forces, and real fears. His longer stories tend to go way off the deep end. Usually they end up being full on wackadoo nonsense by the end. Uzumaki is kinda the exception in that regard.
Btw the animation looks a bit different bcoz its "Rotoscoped". It means they first filmed the footage with actors and then they drew over that footage frame by frame. That is why it looks super "lifelike", bcoz it is drawn footage over real life.
I know they were joking but many believe this is easier for them but drawing without color while nice also makes it hard to shadow. Simple drawings can be done fast but take a talented person to draw them cause you cant do the details for shading easy. So it's give and take. I'd say easiest art is usually walk cycles cause they all train in that first or bounce and stretch along with talking while still and maybe a fight scene where they arent moving the camera. Complexity like pain vs naruto or shyibua incident arc is harder than people think. The fight in the bathroom in jjk or the city is hard as your perspective and camera changes and drawing the environment and lighting.
They do CUT THE PLOT. Basically Azami caught in spiraling feeling towards shuichi makes her obsessed with him after getting rejected few times. She even move to live in the town to get shuichi attention. So she developed an obsession towards him which thats been cut off from the anime. And they change the plot a bit as well. But the anime is good tho so yeah Shuichi didnt leave the town cause his mom and kirie was there. Kirie didn't leave the town cause she has her family there and shes desensitized with the spiral stuff which she didnt realized it if shuichi didn't point it out. Shes get used to everything like how the other people live in that town. Episode 2 will be so fun to watch people react to it
I know the few low scores on imdb have issue with the pacing. Otherwise this would be a high 90+ on imdb. Not seen by many since the likes of AOT or breaking bad. Pretty impressive for an episode 1. If this does well I think more of his shows will get the care they deserve. I think westerners arent used to this form of horror as they get a lot of terrify slashers and just recently got into elevated horror, but they forget another form of horror that is really good (I know west has all types too) they don't focus on, annialation like horror where things arent explainable and are wild. West hates that test audience wise so they always want answers and plots to move quick. Hence why I think the series squeezed so many eps into one episode. Seems non fans don't mind and liked the pacing and though it was slow...or at least a long episode. Likely cause there wasn't a opening theme song so it felt longer and the characters constantly moved which were all not used to so it keeps us attentive but also exhaust us. All that still shot stuff in anime got us used to it IMO. It's why JJK one full ep of creative fighting still tires some out, or dbz broly 40 min fight scene was a lot.
@@nichescenes well agreed on that just I feel kinda disappointed cause all the tiny details (eventho some said it's kinda slow in manga somehow) that's what built the story thru the plot. Like how azami develop feeling towards shuichi where she caught in spiraling obsession towards him that make her stalk him and even go to his house and move to the town. Cause some viewers (non-manga reader) they kinda confused on why she so fixed on shuichi eventho they just meet (I know she develop the obsession after getting rejected) still there's feels like something missing there. Or like why shuichi mom be so traumatized of the spiral it is because his father start stop going to work end up getting fired and be so abusive hitting his mom after she threw away all his spiral collection and start from that shuichi become depressed and the only things that keep him alive was kirie. I hope they don't cut kirie brother roles as well since he play some significant roles towards the end of the manga. Nevertheless they make some justification with the visual still I enjoy the show and can't wait what will happen since they said they had some surprise on the anime. So we will see I guess I really hope they don't cut lots of visual from the hospital arc cause that's what traumatized lots of people start from Jack in a box chapter #fingercrossed
I love Junji Ito because some of the images be scary as fuck but a lot of his manga has some funny ass moments throughout the horror. The way I was hollering when the guy was in the tree LMAO. Real shit I think animating Junji Ito loses the jump scare element of his manga, but the atmosphere is perfect in this anime
I have most of the official english Junji Itou stuff on my manga shelf. When I first read uzumaki 8 or so years ago, I couldn't sleep for two nights because I kept seeing the images every time I closed my eyes. I'm 30 years old btw.
The spiral butthole part had me dying of laughter, loved your guys reaction lmao. Colin Stetson cooked with the music for the show, it really added to a lot of the scenes I feel like!
odd samurai here brought up a great point that shuichi mentioned first he hated this town and wanted to move out so is he seeing the spirals like a symbolism for his hatred or did the spirals come first. junji Ito is so great at connecting phenomenal to the characters' personalities.
Wow like wow….this first episode had me shook, definitely perfect for spooky season!! I love how everything was in black and white adds more to the horror!!
I love that this genre of anime getting more love. The horror is really good and animation lends itself very well to it. Creepy and trippy. W reaction as always 💯💯also w Javon for the intro
I was JUST wondering if y'all were going to react to this lol. I knew nothing about this anime, other than a few announcements, so I didn't know what I was getting into. I know this is horror but right now, for me, it was more like "whoa... wtf!?" as well as being extremely weirded out. The art style is AMAZING, I don't think I've ever seen a style like this before.
Man this was worth the wait. I hope this show blows up because after 2 failed Junji Ito adaptations this is such a breath of fresh air and you can tell its been done with the utmost care and respect for the source
This anime was suppose to release in 2020, but due to covid they had to stop production for a year due to them using Rotoscope, an animation technique where they use real footage of people and then animate on top of it. It's a laborous form of animation, and top of everything, the animators underestimated how much work they had to do with black and white, since they could not use colour to add depth into the artwork. I'm so happy it managed to be released after all this time, and I'm very hyped up for more people to know about this horrifying masterpiece.
When this show ends, Uzumakiphobia might become a buzzword of 2024, lol. Also, many of those spiral holes side by side kinda trigger trypophobia (the fear of holes).
This is older than most of peoples favorite anime, Naruto to name one 😂😂 5 years been waiting on this to be adapted after they announced it would, but the manga itself old as hell
This episode will be the least crazy out of all of them, so strap yourelfs And I'm so glad this studio actually did junji ito justice instead of those studios who did crappy Netflix animes
Positive spin-move:the guy just wanted to breakdance on spiral chick's forehead🤷♂️ LMAO didn't finish the reaction and you beat me to the b-boy joke🗣💀
One time I ordered a light strip for my desk so it would look sick and then I pulled it out of the box it was in a perfect spiral because of how it was packaged so it naturally kept returning to a spiral shape no matter how straight I got it bitch i almost threw that shit in the trash but nah I taped it flat and I think i'm safe now (praying)
You are all smooth too and good looking (just saying, I know you like girls but still 😁) and thanks for the reaction. I'll never look at spirals the same lol 😀
Of course you guys watch it in SUB again, god I'm sick of the sub the dubs sound much better ugh though it makes sense you guys are democrats you got no taste and believe lies like "subs are always better" never talk about poltics it's just like pissing offf usually more than half of your fanbase because lots of people are starting to realize all the reasons they hate trump we're all lies and the dems were the racist party etc

Btw Geto’s move is a reference to this series!!! Junji Ito is a legend
I had thought that might have been the case.
Brody took notes from that manga and used that same spiral technique Shuji’s dad did in the tub and used it on Mahito 😂
