Yobriel From da Mil Has been approved by NCAA- San Diego St has used them. NFL official testing is end of December and Beginning of January. Tested 5 stars at Virginia testing. I would trust it- seems like a good helmet.
@@soziahz8412 Riddell and Schutt wearers get way more concussions wearing those. NFL players are always on concussion protocol and that's all they wear.
This is the reorganized SG helmet company started by Bill Simpson and Chip Ganassi for those that do not recognize these names they are huge names in motorsports they are using shell and padding technology used in 2k+ racing helmets.. Think about that for a minute a big hit a Safety puts on a WR across the middle in the NFL is a 35 MPH car crash. A racing crash is up to 200 MPH and yes they have roll cages and belts but still that is a huge impact. Research is showing that 2 major factors go into most concussions 1st rotational force there are really only 2 manufacturers that address this with shell technology and padding (Vicis and Xenith) both of which allow the helmet to rotate separate from the shell but Vicis adds in a "soft" shell that also absorbs the impact and facemask mounting. Schutt sort of addresses rotational force with the tectonic plates but they are located only on the centerline of the helmet , Riddell does theirs with the facemask mounting system. The second factor in concussions is blunt force and the whipping motion created by the head and neck this is addressed by all manufacturers by making lighter helmets, increasing padding or multistage padding with Vicis they absorb the blow with the soft shell as well, and Xenith with slight rotation of the shell. You do have keep in mind that the heavier the helmet the more neck strength is required to keep the head from whipping which as the player tires, leads to more injuries many of these type concussions as the player goes to the ground and the head whips into the field. The lighter helmet means the players neck is more able to help deal with the hit it also allows for less stress on the player and faster reaction times during play. As a player safety coach you have to be cognizant of Fit and weight for youth players and younger HS aged players and help them make the best decisions based on their safety not just trying to look like the pros. To that end all you kids need keep in mind that there generally is a vast difference between the Speedflex you wear at HS and the precision fit custom diamond printed Speedflex worn by say Zeke.. For cost and protection my kids always wore Xenith Epic helmets but at this price point the Light is a great option especially for youth players that have underdeveloped neck muscles.
Brian Jones you seem to have a great grasp on rotational and linear forces and helmets. I recently bought a Schutt F7 LTD over the Vicis zero 1 because of the Virginia Tech helmet safety score. Schutt had 0.75 vs Vicis 1.97.
@@SkitsByChris Great helmet for older kids with stronger necks as both are a little heavier so neck and head whip can be a factor. I have been doing equipment and certified PSC for a very long time now. I try to keep up with the technological breakthroughs as much as I can. My twin boys wore Xenith Epic's for their entire HS careers and I was an instrumental factor in moving our youth organization away from Riddell Speed youth helmets to all Xenith Helmets in an effort to reduce concussion rates. I have found that the vast majority of TBI in youth football over my past 10 years come from the players head hitting the ground rather than the player to player hits during the game.
I was able to get my hands on one of these helmets (adult medium LS1). My initial impression was it looked like the inside of bike helmet. Helmet is extremely light. When you look inside the helmet, you can see the Kevlar webbing. Regardless of what it looks like, it did receive a 5 star rating from the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab concerning concussions (only reason I would consider this helmet for my son). 2019 was the 1st year for the helmet After speaking with a company rep, they indicated that the LS2 (2020) internal design has been changed, to provide a better fit. LS2 samples are suppose to be released in the next couple of weeks.
Glad you guys did a video! I saw an ad on Facebook or Instagram awhile back but every time I searched up “light helmet” or “light branded helmet” or anything line that nothing came up
Like a motorcycle helmet any major impact the lining or helmet should be replaced. Not sure how the liner will react to multiple impacts in the same area or if protection will be compromised.
Soziaz It's got a 5 Star rating. You know better than NOCSAE and Virginia Tech? Not to mention doctors who know the negative effect of weight on a players head? The 5 Star rating doesn't even take into account the benefit of lighter weight. Lighter is better. The physics are undeniable.
Why no mention of the 5 Star rating that all 3 LIGHT Helmets received from Virginia Tech? People here are questioning whether or not this system is safe... It is safe, in fact it's safer, because of its lighter weight. NOCSAE and VT tests don't currently account for the added safety of lighter weight helmet, so this is a huge bonus on top of the 5 Star rating.
When doing some research on them and their interviews one of them mentioned “force= mass x acceleration” so decreasing mass = less force but how does that apply if one player has a light Helmet but the other has a normal heavier helmet? Wouldn’t that cause more damage to the person who would be wearing the light helmet? I could be wrong but if not these don’t seem safe
No, that's a function of overall weight and speed. Would you feel the difference between a 212 lb linebacker vs a 214 lb linebacker hitting you in the same exact place at the same exact speed? No, you wouldn't. Plus, a helmet is not like a sledgehammer. These helmets could reduce concussions from impacts with the turf or grass because there is less weight and mass being whipped to the ground .
If you don’t take neck strain into account, then a heavier helmet would be Hegger cuz it’s heavier so it howl need more acceleration to be the same force as a lighter helmet
A couple of years ago, you presented some T-weld bespoke masks from Hassmaske. Are these hollow core, Cromoly steel t-welds different and safer than those made by Hassmaske?
Those auto racing and bike helmets are meant to be replaced after 1 blow, even the high end ones. You can’t do that in football, so I wonder if these will hold up to time
Aren't bike and race helmets designed to collapse on one impact because that's generally what's needed to save a life in that situation? I mean these engineers are smarter than me but that's the first question that jumps out at me; because a football helmet needs to still perform after a big impact unlike many of those other types listed.
I wish i could afford a riddell speedflex but I cant and my high school FB team only has Schutts. Man I LOVE the look of the speedflex and wish I could own my own. But the best thing i can get is just looking at pictures of it😤😭
