Kinda just self-vent, but it feels wild now how this was my first ever route I encountered. Was so confused hearing every voices at the same time, like "Who are you people??? Did I just skipped the entire game???...".
If you try to compromise, we all do, we all half affraid, half believe the narrator and half believe the princess. But that is ours uncertain and ignorant that evovle into fear, and fear manifest into nightmare. Nowaday overthink is popular The Nightmare easily become one if the most first experience for new blind player.
@@mivalentine2794 Very accurate. Uncertain wether the Narrator is truthful or lying, I just go for the middle route and locked her in the basement. And then on the second chapter where she is basically holding me at a gun point, I decided to just tell her to 'Do her worst', thinking that fighting back is futile. (Thanks for the effort, Paranoid)
‘You’ve become aware of what you used to be and in the process become aware of what you no longer are’ oooh I love that line! I think the nightmare and moment of clarity are a really good example of how the Long Quiet and the Shifting Mound are intrinsically tied together and kinda pull back the curtain on how all of this works. As the Long Quiet, you can’t change, but also you must change over and over again when you meet her. That’s why you always end every path back at the Mound, her influence makes some part of you like her (or more brings out the part that is always like her). And as Nightmare says she can’t change what she is, she’s stagnant like that. You both hold part of the other and in showing each other more of yourselves you are only drawn closer to each other until you fall in love or deny your own nature and destroy the other. Good video!
Thank you! And I appreciate your fantastic comment, the Princess basically saying you can’t change her is a great catch, and I guess kinda comes back to the whole “being a contradiction thing” she is the embodiment of change, but that very fact is not changeable
@@matthewgrant1622 Thank you! I’m really proud of this one. I’ve had these thoughts since I first played this route, and haven’t seen anyone come to the same conclusion, so I wanted to share them
This is a good analysis! I personally hadn’t thought of the Remain with your Nightmare sequence in that way, and thought of it before as just the Narrator’s nightmare being shown. I will say though, I do disagree somewhat with the final conclusion about the Moment of Clarity. The game as a whole of course is about the Princess, and your relationship with her, and recognizing her faults yet loving her for them. The Moment of Clarity is an example however of this relationship going wrong, as many of the game’s routes can be interpreted to be. I think the Shifting Mound’s comment on the vessel of her describes it best: “A doll abandoned to the company of her darkest impulses. She desires only companionship, but the only thing she knows is how to hurt.” She seeks companionship, a connection with you, but she cannot get one earnestly due to the Long Quiet’s perception of her as something to fear. She ultimately has to force that connection, having made you accept the inevitable and get her what she wants. This relationship is naturally flawed though, because it’s not one we actually agree to at all. Edit: Also I forgot to include this in the comment but I would love to see a P:EG analysis ❤. I’ve considered doing one myself but havent wanted to commit to making one yet.
This is very true, when looking at The Moment of Clarity in the vacuum, it’s clear that the relationship is not ideal, I was more so speaking of it in its context once we are already above it once the Shifting Mound has become whole, as most of the direct responses to her argument treat it that way as a way to connect it to the rest of the game which shares a similar message as you pointed out Thank you for the insightful comment! Edit: Also, I’m glad to hear it, I’m thinking on making one analyzing the imitation/echo art I just have to, well, analyze it all first lol
This was amazing dude. I never was able to fully decide what I thought about this part of the game but you really helped that. Really good analysis and I also love how you used the princess and the dragon song for the love part, it’s my favorite track lol.
Great video! As someone who is relatively new to the Slay the Princess community, some things in the game left me pretty confused(probably because i haven't even seen all the vessels yet lol) and one of them was this very scene in the Nightmare this video is about, since the princess and the dragon (a vessel i saw pretty early on) said the princess also doesn't know much about the world she inhabits. I really like your proposal that it's meant to be kind of a foreshadowing of the ending of the game. I would really like to see your take in some other unexplained things in the game, like what is that thing after the long quiet the princess opens in the Apotheosis. Again, great video and i hope to see more amazing content from you!
Thank you! I’m glad I could provide an explanation you enjoy! I’ll definitely make more STP videos in the future, though in regard to what you see in The Apotheosis, you may find the answer in one of the other endings…
Not related to the videos subject but I'd like to say that the music at 7:00 (aka "The Nightmare"), is 100% something you would hear in a Little Nightmares game, and i wouldn't doubt that it's intentional. There's even children like voices humming in the song and the first few notes at the start also sound a lot like Six music's box.
I absolutely agree, in fact I think Let. Me. Out. (The Nightmare II) sounds even more like it was straight from Little Nightmares, the humming is pretty much spot on there
Me coming into this video as a massive Step fan and getting jumpscared by an EDEN’S GARDEN MENTION?? Oh yeah, this is gonna be a good channel Also. Very emotional about your thoughts on this route. Moment of Clarity always felt hopeless to me, so it’s very sweet to see a much more compassionate take on it
Yeah, I think it’s interesting to look at routes like these from different angles given how symbolic a lot of this game is, I love how pretty much every route has romantic subtext in one way or another Also glad to see people who share all of these interests finding the channel! I think there’ll be a lot of stuff you can enjoy
Hot **dog** any time this game is brought up it hits me in the feels; really beautiful video, super high polish for a small channel, 10/10 would watch again lol
@@KatBeanGod Yeah, you have to decide to not slay or save her in Ch 1 to get the nightmare and instead lock her away. She’ll then basically become a sleep paralysis demon that kills you by existing. And to get the moment of clarity, you basically have to do that again lol
It’s my pleasure! I’ve always found this scene fascinating and have grown quite attached to my reading of it, so I’m just happy I had the chance to share it
Moment of Clarity was my first vessel during a (almost) blind playthrough when the game was not yet at Pristine Edition. I was only exposed to 1 trailer of the game before trying it, and it revealed a snippet that Princess might just be some kind of eldritch abomination. So I went into the cabin with a dose of cynical approach to the whole game, and decided to screw around and sit on the fence as much as I can for the heck of it. (I realize this almost made me get a Stranger). So after deciding to lock her up and witnessing the ooooh~ scary ghost (trope which I was honestly desesytized to at this point in life) and expecting a game over screen of some kind... I've got somewhat hooked. Now it was time to establish if this game is going to be another overdone time reset trope (remember, I'm forcefully being "Skeptical" [yup that's another favorite of mine] and keeping my expectations low) and try to meet Princess again. The gaping door was actually first thing that gave me a good scare, not as a lame jumpscare, but actual goosebumps and feeling of dread before the unknown. Decided to take the blade with me this time (I did not during Chapter 1) and went on ready to at least put up some fight against this numbing monstrosity. After thorough Exploration through all possible dialogue options, I decided to stick to my previous decision and throw the knife away. Once I witnessed that single tear when she took off mask, I actually felt bad for her. While not realizing the full scope of game yet (as I haven't met with Shifty proper) I've instinctively realized she was baring her whole essence to me. And then the most mindbending title card happened, followed by all of those people I did not realize were living in my head rent free. It was my personal wish at the time, that I would have the option of helping Clarity out of the abyss, but only if she lets me remove the mask myself this time, because she has nothing left to scare me with anymore. I wanted to release her out of compassion for her predicament. Pristine Cut made that wish slightly come true. :] TL;DR? I'm Smitten for Clarity. Post Scriptum and Post Watching Your Video. Nightmare advancing into Clarity is extremely similar to how Smitten unleashed himself into Happily Ever After, don't you think?
That’s a great observation! Indeed both are examples of showing the other their heart, and both involve the player trying to get the Princess to stay in the basement, there’s definitely something there
