    I just did a few like this and then did one more with a small piece of pvc pipe then wrapped that in camo duct tape. Plan to test them out later this week! Thanks for the tip

    Double over hand knot,
    But cool idea, people be spending $$ for aiders
    An old garden hose, but may knock around.
    I brought clear 3/4 hose & used am steel

      Thanks for the knot name.
      And yeah, just a simple easy cheap idea, I used it for a cpl years and then did the same as you, amsteel and I just got black hose.. actually made a video the year after this video about those aiders too..
      those are a little more expensive, but well worth it for the less bulk. 🤙

    That knot looks like a stop knot. When tied properly, rope is parallel on one side and crossed on the opposite side. Very strong, won't slip.

      Thanks. Actually just ordered a book about knots, seems like there’s tons of cool and good knots to know around.. and yea, so far no issues with the knots at all.

    You could easily add a couple more loops and make it a 3 step aider. Thanks for the idea

    • @hufius
      @hufius  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I’ve actually been playing around with the idea. But for me where I hunt, it’s just not needed, as the trees get too thick at about 20ft.
      But after an early cow elk hunt this year, I thought that it would be cool to be able to get up higher and sit on a waterhole or game trail.
      Think I’ll give it a try later today. 👍

    What’s the packability of the sticks with these aiders attached? I made a single aider that moves up the tree with me and it packs easily, but I love this idea as long as they pack well.

  • @TylerMiller04

    Hey, just wondering if anyone else had the same problem as me. I made my first aider, using thinner Paracord, and it just sliced through the insulation until it got to the duct tape where it held. Would thicker rope help?

    • @hufius
      @hufius  3 роки тому

      I definitely wouldn’t use thinner, if anything, use heavier- for safety.
      I’m sure thinner will slice through the insulation pretty quick. I’ve used mine for 30+ sits (the ones from the video) and I have no problems with them.
      I do wrap them pretty tight in tape. Good luck

    • @TylerMiller04

    Hey man, just wanted to know your long term thoughts on these. Do they last? Fray? How do they do when wet? Great idea, enjoyed the vid.

    • @hufius
      @hufius  3 роки тому +6

      So I used mine all last season here in wisconsin, early September till late Jan.
      I probably got out about 30ish times with them, and they look perfect still. I wrapped a little extra tape on them after 20 times or so. But wasn’t really needed, just did it to stiffen up the step a bit.
      I’ll use them all this season too, and then I’ll likely just do new ones after that, since they are so easy and cheap to make.
      I had no problems when they got wet or snowy.
      Thanks for watching and good luck this season 🤙

    How long is the rope for each aider, I know they are 20 inches long but how long is the whole rope itself.

    • @hufius
      @hufius  3 роки тому

      I cut mine at around 6ft, so for me, I just pull a full arm span and cut it there. Then make a knot close to the end on one end, adjust to the desired length and then just cut the rest off after making the last knot. Hope that makes sense. 🤙

    • @hufius
      @hufius  4 роки тому +1

      I can quite easily get up to 20ft platform height, but now I’m getting curious about how high I can actually get if I put them as far from each other as possible. Might have to do a video on that. I’m thinking 23-25 without too much trouble.
      I’ll get back to you on that for sure 🤙

      I realized last week how much property I have to hunt between my farm, friends farms that I have permission on, and a couple of public land opportunities I have...but I won't go hunt them because I don't have stands up for all of it and don't like hauling in my climber early in the morning to struggle for a perfect tree.... and decided I want to give this a try. Guys of all sizes and ages seem to like/love Saddle hunts... so let's give it a go
      Looking forward to seeing just how high you can safely go!!! I'm hoping to find my way to 25' min for most all of my hunts. 18'-20' just seems to get me busted in all my spots.

    320 pound paracord?

    • @hufius
      @hufius  4 роки тому +2

      It was/is 550, had another rope I got the day before for something else, that was 320lbs strength, and mixed them up. My bad.
      But any rope above your weight plus a bit, should work just fine.
      I use mine almost daily, and they are holding up great. I’m 100% sure there’s better options. But this works, and is cheap and easy. And I feel perfectly safe using it. I’m around 200lbs.
      Sorry about the mistake 🤙
