I just did a few like this and then did one more with a small piece of pvc pipe then wrapped that in camo duct tape. Plan to test them out later this week! Thanks for the tip
Double over hand knot, But cool idea, people be spending $$ for aiders An old garden hose, but may knock around. I brought clear 3/4 hose & used am steel
Thanks for the knot name. And yeah, just a simple easy cheap idea, I used it for a cpl years and then did the same as you, amsteel and I just got black hose.. actually made a video the year after this video about those aiders too.. those are a little more expensive, but well worth it for the less bulk. 🤙
Thanks. Actually just ordered a book about knots, seems like there’s tons of cool and good knots to know around.. and yea, so far no issues with the knots at all.
@@hufius check DIY Sportsman channel, Garrett shows how to properly tie that fishermans knot with rope parallel on one side and crossed in an x on the opposite side.... he had a tutorial on making your own diy lineman ropes and whatnot.
Yeah, I’ve actually been playing around with the idea. But for me where I hunt, it’s just not needed, as the trees get too thick at about 20ft. But after an early cow elk hunt this year, I thought that it would be cool to be able to get up higher and sit on a waterhole or game trail. Think I’ll give it a try later today. 👍
@@hufius if you tied a knot on both sides of your foam step you could then tie your second step above the knots. I just got a saddle so I was looking for something like this
What’s the packability of the sticks with these aiders attached? I made a single aider that moves up the tree with me and it packs easily, but I love this idea as long as they pack well.
Hey, just wondering if anyone else had the same problem as me. I made my first aider, using thinner Paracord, and it just sliced through the insulation until it got to the duct tape where it held. Would thicker rope help?
I definitely wouldn’t use thinner, if anything, use heavier- for safety. I’m sure thinner will slice through the insulation pretty quick. I’ve used mine for 30+ sits (the ones from the video) and I have no problems with them. I do wrap them pretty tight in tape. Good luck
So I used mine all last season here in wisconsin, early September till late Jan. I probably got out about 30ish times with them, and they look perfect still. I wrapped a little extra tape on them after 20 times or so. But wasn’t really needed, just did it to stiffen up the step a bit. I’ll use them all this season too, and then I’ll likely just do new ones after that, since they are so easy and cheap to make. I had no problems when they got wet or snowy. Thanks for watching and good luck this season 🤙
I cut mine at around 6ft, so for me, I just pull a full arm span and cut it there. Then make a knot close to the end on one end, adjust to the desired length and then just cut the rest off after making the last knot. Hope that makes sense. 🤙
I can quite easily get up to 20ft platform height, but now I’m getting curious about how high I can actually get if I put them as far from each other as possible. Might have to do a video on that. I’m thinking 23-25 without too much trouble. I’ll get back to you on that for sure 🤙
I realized last week how much property I have to hunt between my farm, friends farms that I have permission on, and a couple of public land opportunities I have...but I won't go hunt them because I don't have stands up for all of it and don't like hauling in my climber early in the morning to struggle for a perfect tree.... and decided I want to give this a try. Guys of all sizes and ages seem to like/love Saddle hunts... so let's give it a go Looking forward to seeing just how high you can safely go!!! I'm hoping to find my way to 25' min for most all of my hunts. 18'-20' just seems to get me busted in all my spots.
I know this question has been asked but I ordered 550 paracord and it's not the same as what you using. Do you have a link on where to get this or better description of this?
Hi, I got the paracord from Home Depot - they stopped with that exact poundage but now have a 340lbs I think, you can Facebook msg me and I’m happy to help you out. Jonas Knigge Laursen
www.paracordplanet.com/cord-comparison-chart/ This should work. I can’t find that stuff at Home Depot anymore for some reason. It was an Everbuilt I used in the video
It was/is 550, had another rope I got the day before for something else, that was 320lbs strength, and mixed them up. My bad. But any rope above your weight plus a bit, should work just fine. I use mine almost daily, and they are holding up great. I’m 100% sure there’s better options. But this works, and is cheap and easy. And I feel perfectly safe using it. I’m around 200lbs. Sorry about the mistake 🤙

Great idea! I had everything I needed in the shed but my paracord is to thin so I gotta find something to run threw it. Thanks!
Thank you for this great idea. I am getting these same sticks for this season.

That knot looks like a stop knot. When tied properly, rope is parallel on one side and crossed on the opposite side. Very strong, won't slip.

Well thank you very much, that means a lot coming from you. And btw- I very much enjoy your channel, Keep up the good work.
Great job! U might think about using a small section of rubber washing machine hose ? Just an idea. God bless you sir
Definitely cheapest way I've seen. Aiders are crazy expensive for some rope. This is ideal, thanks
You could easily add a couple more loops and make it a 3 step aider. Thanks for the idea

Awesome video! Definitely going to do this!
Appreciate it, you should check my other video out where I use Amsteel rope instead, much less bulky and weight limit is something like 2500lbs!
Good idea on the step

Yeah, I figured. I might try garden hose, then if that doesn't work switch to thicker cord
How much do you weigh? Just wondering because I’m about 260 ish. An wondering how much stress it’s putting on that bottom step.
I’m just around 200lbs. I’d recommend that you do what I did in my newer video about aiders - use Amsteel instead, holds up better and is lighter.
great job, thanks for the video !!!!

Hey man, just wanted to know your long term thoughts on these. Do they last? Fray? How do they do when wet? Great idea, enjoyed the vid.

How long is the rope for each aider, I know they are 20 inches long but how long is the whole rope itself.
I cut mine at around 6ft, so for me, I just pull a full arm span and cut it there. Then make a knot close to the end on one end, adjust to the desired length and then just cut the rest off after making the last knot. Hope that makes sense. 🤙
What rope did you use?
Thanks man!
