Thanks a lot mate. Tried a box on a tilted-forwards head to get the perspective right, and it worked so well that I started using them all the time. Boxes make it much easier to get the head placed right drawing from life, too.
I developed my own kind of method for drawing inspired by your “blob” method, I use a low opacity brush and block in the silhouette. Really small for from imagination drawings, then blow them up and refine, or normal drawing size for drawing from reference I modify it a bit and focus on blocking in shapes with more focus on curves perspective etc. I’ve been struggling with attempting to use my reference drawing method of blocking in, in my imagination drawings. I do about 15 reference drawings per day, then attempt an imagination drawing. I’m struggling with attempting to add more perspective into my imagination drawings, they always feel really flat, no matter what, I feel like I’m stuck trying to have proportions correct vs when I’m drawing from ref I know what it’s supposed to look like since I can see it. I feel like the “fix” is more drawing from reference to build up my visual library, it’s slow going however, even with 10-15 ref drawings each night.
Right on man, that damn circle's been bugging me more and more as the years go. Especially with regards to that whole "how to draw x" methodology. I get that, in order to teach someone how to think about breaking a form down into simpler shapes, you gotta show them some examples of simpler shapes. But it's kinda missing the point if the example is taken as an absolute requirement. Also, i like that triangle thing you did. Hadn't really thought about the facial features as a single unit like that.

Crazy helpful, and enjoyable to listen to! Thanks!
I'm astonished that this isn't scripted, you know they know what they talking about if they sing it
