Zack and Ari took an old GSXR1000 (aka Dave) and kicked Ducati’s flagship to the curb. Maybe, as pointed out, Suzuki found the magic formula. If it ain’t broke, why change it. As for electric, battery technology and cross country infrastructure to support it does not exist. So until the support system exists, they will be the occasional oddity usually found around larger population centers.

I actually have a hard time seeing hybrid motorcycle technology taking off... I mean what benefits does an electric motorcycle have over a gasoline motorcycle? Efficiency around town and simplicity of maintenance, that's pretty much it? And the downsides are weight, cost, range? Now you're talking about cramming a gas engine *and* a battery and electric motor in a bike? So now it's likely to be more expensive than a gas equivalent, *more* complicated maintenance, just as heavy or heavier, more expensive, and what you get out of it is... maybe a little bit more range (thinking touring range here, city range isn't an issue for just about anybody on a motorcycle, so a much longer range there doesn't really count for much)?
Honestly a hybrid motorcycle sounds like the worst of both worlds to me, not the best of either.

Hi, Hello from Mexico City. These are my 5 cents, you need to go back to see the whole picture, not just for bikes, you need to see Suzuki industry as a whole, cars, marine equipment and bikes, so on recent years Suzuki has not had a good reception on both sides, even though they have really good products. So a year ago due to pandemic the industry show us how fragile is economy, so Suzuki had no option other than sell a part of the company to Toyota, who also has an important share investment with Yamaha, so that answer Us one of many questions and it is why to have 2 companies running high expenses on the same category?
Just keep the brand most relevant and the one who has more success. We know Toyota are experts on managing companies, just take a look and see how at Subaru are regaining on market where the company was left a few years ago.

The pacing and enjoyment of this podcast is severely slowed by the consistent need to dumb down topics and explain the least important details. We’re listening because we’re motorcycle people. We know what things like Suzuka and ride by wire throttle are. Even for people that don’t, these aren’t the key issues in the conversation. It’s drags the conversation down and is a little insulting to listeners; suggesting they can’t follow along without every single bit of terminology being defined first.

Add to the fact they're all characterless, heavy, distance restricted and just plain boring I know I would never own one. Riding old technology is an experience, to a greater or lesser degree, EVs are just a mode of transport or a convenience, soul-less automations devoid and remote from input and consequent feedback.

It would be interesting to see a HS/LS edition that discusses the differences around the world in regard to two-wheeled vehicles. We often talk about the use of small motorcycles for transportation in Taiwan, India, etc., and bemoan the lack thereof in North America and to a large degree also Europe, but forget one of the main reasons: climate. In much of India, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia in general, their climate allows year-round riding without much inconvenience. In most of Canada and at least half of the US, you simply can’t ride a two-wheel vehicle reliably all year around. Even if you are willing to buy the gear required to ride at sub-freezing temperatures, the dangers of ice and snow on the roads are not easily mitigated.

    • @ninjaguysith
      @ninjaguysith 2 роки тому

I think it also comes down to size. Small bikes work for small places. North America has large expansive highways with decent high speed roads that make large bikes that can take advantage of higher speeds. I rented bikes all over Asia and can't imagine going 80+ mph for long periods of time anywhere.

Suzuki is a big company making 1,500,000 two wheelers annually. By comparison Ducati is a cottage industry with maybe 60,000 sales a year. The image of ducati is "super sexy" whether they race 1/3 of the motogp grid or not. With 1/4 the ducati motopg investment, , Suzuki won a world championship and did so with a bike that is considered elegant and well balanced - a graceful machine in a field generally consisting of very fast sledgehammers.
My point here is that Suzuki's investment in motogp to it's street image, is more important to them, than someone like ducati's. It was harder to say they are devolving, when the example of their potential was competing at the highest level. It's not like they are investing much in R&D consistently. The expenses of racing were easily affordable, if the value was perceived, and I think they had that value. All in all - I think it was a mistake to withdraw, it makes a bunch of bikes that are competent but not very edgy, look a lot less shiny. IMO.
But hey, drag racing - viva la busa.

My feeling is that Suzuki may be a mite late to the Green powered motorcycle market, and has some pricey technology investments to make in order to bring an electric (or hybrid) vehicle to market... Bikes already have great milage, take up less of the roads and allow traffic to flow better when commuting. This is a solution that does not have a problem. It works for cars because they can suffer the weight penalty, bikes cannot. I get tired of everybody pushing for this electrification when it's unnecessary. Let the tech mature before you jump from the frying pan into the fire. People complain about gas vehicles but are not concerned about all the waste from solar panels and lithium batteries that must be recycled. We have gas powered vehicles that are very efficient now with few emissions. I am amazed at how willing people are to shoot themselves in the foot. What I know is that you will live long enough to regret this and think back to the good old days when we had gas powered vehicles and the freedom to go where we wished when we wished.

Strange move for Suzuki. Most of their bikes are based on race bikes. Only a couple cruisers and dirt bikes.
I would like to see them do something to compete with the grom. A mini dual sport off the RM85 would be fun.

Suzuki is doing the 5th generation, the K5 engine, in a similar manner as Harley Davidson does their big engines. One powerplant and umpteen models differentiated by bars, fenders and foot placement.

So many burning KTM clips on UA-cam. The biggest maintenance demand seems to be scraping together enough sand and dirt to put them out when a bystander's 12oz bottle of spring water didn't do it.

Suzuki makes some good bikes. The market is ripe for an update to the DR600/DRZ400, as they are both solid bikes in that segment, but an update with a bit stronger small ADV, a better dual sport, and a couple of Japanese Supermotos to compete with KTM would put them back on people's minds. i have had a GS500, Vstrom 1000, and currently am working on a scrambler GS450 to play around with.

Let's be real Kawasaki only built a hybrid motorcycle because nobody else is done it and it's just going to give views that's the only thing it's going to be like the old sax rotary motorcycle you know it came out it was a niche a few people bought them but they weren't really popular they're not very reliable and it's not something that's going to stick around realistically why would you want two motors on a motorcycle when you can have either a gas or an electric why do you want both just seems like you're trying to put too much technology into something that needs to be simple come on that's the reason we buy motorcycles right if we wanted a bunch of technology we'd sit her ass in a cockpit with f****** tracks and control abs and all that other BS out there right now you're going to have people out there that need to be the first to have something so yeah you'll have a few of them getting sold but it'll be a flop guaranteed put my name on it

It didn't take long for it to be good because Harley-Davidson knows how to make motorcycles what world were you born on they stole the technology and if it wasn't for Harley-Davidson pushing outdated technology is the only kind of technology they know how to do quote on quote Willie g Davidson we're not in the market to compete with the foreign motorcycles let's be real it took two times to put the live wire out there the first time was a flop and the second time was a flop

Gotta love the silky smooth sounds of Spurgeon Dunbar for Motul motorcycle products. Glad to see The Silver Fox is back for his first, of what I hope are many, appearances this season. So, basically Kawasaki does not stand with turbo Bruce. I know how Suzuki feels its often been said that if they ever write the story of my life it would have to start with chapter 11. Looks like Suzuki is making big plans for the future and they include needing the money from their GP division. Spurge talk about KTM's? Nah never happen lol! Smell is important Zack nothing like the smells of well weathered leather, hot metal and oil, amid the scented country air. I think its a Triumph triple cylinder, maybe a Speed Triple or a Daytona 675. Wrong on all counts...NUTS! See you in 2 and on 2!
