Michael, you will feel better if you climb out of your basement, go out side and enjoy some sunshine. Bring some sun screen because it sounds like you have been down there a long time and I'm sure you are very pale. Here is a pro tip to getting your life back: Find the button that shuts down the youtube app and use it.

Just love this channel, I’m a general in the ham world and love it! (not a “sad ham”) but, GMRS is a very important part of our family farm. It’s so nice that all involved in our farm can use the repeater I put up for all the farm activities! AND I hope you all will join the GMRS family. It’s just handy and fun 24-7!!!!!

GMRS radios seem to be more convenient than handheld CBs. The CB HTs need really big battery packs or don't last long on what you can get, so you need a 12V car battery for power, but the GMRS HTs are efficient enough to use small Lithium packs. So my CB radio stays in the car.
I only used my AA battery-powered HT CB radio to listen to the NOAA weather forecasts, until I got a digital emergency radio (KA600) and a cheapie FRS/GMRS. HT.

I dunno... I think, if I didn't understand this repeater stuff already, I might be more confused. Think you need a Carl Rove style whiteboard to illustrate some of these concepts as all the talk of channel sharing is hard to visualize without a visual aid. Also a demo of the squelch tail would've made that much clearer. But, enjoyed this vid, as I have all the others and I give you much respect for trying to help the noobs. I bet you've increased GMRS use in the US more than you know. I know you're the motivator in my case for sure.

I'll chime in. I'm totally new to the GMRS community. Just got my license the other day. I've been online for a loooong time now. These computers have rewired our brains, along with things like microwave ovens, by making things available so quickly compared to how we grew up before that era. Same thing with the way people drive these days. It's not good and I try and read books as much as I can to offset the effect. I know your remarks are more or less in jest, but those are among the reasons why so many of us now have a short attention span.

I would love to see Randy do a Video on Simplex "Parrot" Repeaters like the Surecom SR-112 because there is huge debate over where they belong,... The way I read & understand the "Rules" is that a SIMPLEX repeater receives and transmits on ONE frequency so is NOT allowed on a Duplex Repeater channel but many disagree.

Opening: WAY too long. My time was wasted. Good thing though, I have invented a wasted time recycler that recovers 86% of wasted time. I can therefore only hold you responsible for 14%. I saw you pointing at that other guy when you said I was your favorite viewer. I’m not upset. That would just be more wasted time. This was a good video. You should make more. I will be forever rewarded in the knowledge that it was my suggestion that prompted every video you make after April 25, 2023. - 73

One question I had since the beginning of this journey, which has been less than a week, is what is a repeater? Now, I at least have a good idea. I will listen to more and see how those repeaters help with the process. It will be fun to find the repeaters in the areas where I will eventually be "transmitting." Transmit is another term I learned just now, verses broadcasting which I don't expect to be doing on whatever radio I end up with. Thanks for this lesson and I am off to find another one. I see you have many and I will check them out. Thank you for your time. I thought I might change my name to (MyFavoriteViewer.)
