I put so many hours into might and magic clash of heroes, which was blind buy a million years ago. It’s so nice that it’s being recognized. I love this game
Yeah you’re probably right, either too “Japanese” or didn’t get many copies printed or little advertising back in the day which makes them harder to find these days
So glad you included both Nanostray titles. I’m lucky enough to have both as they aren’t all that common but more people need to know about those games. They are great shooters and as you know that system doesn’t have too many shooters. Great list for sure. I have Bangio spirits as well but I’ve yet to really play it but thanks to you I’ll sit down and play it this weekend.
I love that you included luminous arc series in your list. Those series are so good, but sadly not many people know them. Gonna say that you have a great taste 👌✨
Came across a copy of Soul Bubbles today. I had never seen it before except for remembering seeing it in this video and immediately grabbed it. Thanks for the tip.
Wow, I have a pretty substantial DS collection but you still managed to cover stuff I haven't heard of before! Thank you for putting this together! Your video was really fun to watch!
I became aware of your channel just a few days ago and I immediately subscribed while watching that Top 15 DS games video. You come across as a really nice and enthusiastic guy and your excitement is kinda contagious :-)
If you like 1st person ds games check these out: - Dementium 1&2 - Nanashi no Game - Nanashi no Game: Me - Moon - The Dark Spire - Theresia - Touch of the Dead - Metroid Prime Hunters - C.O.R.E - Etrian Odyssey 1-3 - Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain - GoldenEye 007 - 999 (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors) - Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - Last Window: The Secret of Cape West (Hotel Dusk 2) - Again - Another Code: Two Memories (Trace Memories) (okay it's a mix of 3rd person and 1st person point & click, but my love for all Cing games dictates it's inclusion).
I'm one of those people who have watched every DS hidden gem video and I appreciate you covering some different games! So funny, for some reason I only thought Bejeweled Twist was on the DS, which I don't enjoy that much. Thanks for letting me know Bejeweled 3 exists. I love butterfly mode on the PC version.
Luminous arc 2 is so quotable Steiner strike! Master Roland Help! They would all fall to the demon blade Behold the power of Fire! Lights gather! Hold that pose! I'll be back... Meow... Sniper Rina! I got this. I am an iron wall! I'll blow you away Koppin poppin bo poppin I'm counting on you water! Behold the power of a rune knight! They would all fall to the demon blade!
I can so vouch for M&M Clash of Heroes! That puzzle/ warfare mechanic is too good to miss out on, just brilliant! I wish Ubisoft made more games like this. It would be great if the gameplay was used for another franchise, be it Prince of Persia, Rabbids or a collaboration like Final Fantasy or Mario. Very interesting video, I have faith in your knowledge on the DS! You have talked about Kururin Donuts before, right? I have it on my watch list. Big Bang Mini and Soul Bubbles look promising too, will keep an eye out!
Meteos is actually a Banda Namco game, which published the game in Japan. Nintendo published the game only in overseas. www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/software/amtj/index.html
DS is the platform I own the biggest amount of games for, like you I used to play a lot on flashcarts, then bought almost all of those games once I got a job. Been watching hidden gems videos for years now but this is the first one I've seen in a long time that actually had some cool games I hadn't heard about.
Monster Tale, Away Shuffle Dungeon, Thor God of Thunder, Scurge Hive, Star Wars Episode 3... The list really goes on and on to be honest. I'm surprised One Piece Gigant Battle didn't make your list seeing as you mainly collect Pal version games.
Loving the list mate, loads of titles there I haven't played before so can hunt down now and enjoy for the first time. Thanks for putting this one together 🎮🏴☕👌
I just finished orcs and elves on ds from start to finish and I wish the game was longer. I rarely find ds games so captivating and this was really in my alley since it's reminiscent of old school dungeon crawlers.
DS games use flash memory and don't have batteries. If the save isn't working then the flash memory cycles read/write are probably coming to and end. This is why game preservation matters.
I'm really glad you mentionned SoulBubbles, since it was my very first job after graduation and a great experience. The team was crazy talented including Ben Fiquet and Omar Cornut and we had super positive feedbacks, so, yeah, it was such a disappointement when it didnt work. The game really deserved better marketing.
Wow that’s awesome! Must have been really interesting to have a job in a game company surrounded by talented people like that! :) it’s a shame it didn’t do that well, I can tell a lot of love was put into it!
@@RetroBreak It was! A handful of people in an appartment in Paris doing a DS game, on a custom engine made by the creator of (I think?) the first Master System emulator. haha. good memories! But I'm happy they encountered success later with Dragon's trap.
This isn't really relevant to the video, but I'm gonna bring the topic up anyway. Mostly because I see it discussed a lot when it comes to DS in general. If you're gonna judge DS games based on the graphics, please, consider trying them on the original handheld, or at least a 2DS/3DS first. A lot of people look at videos of gameplay being played on an emulator, on larger scale tv screens or computer monitors. People need to understand, these games weren't designed or ever meant to be seen on large displays. They were meant to be played a little 256 x 192 screens. If you're looking at an original DS game (or hell, even a 3DS) and comparing it to later handhelds, or even full blown consoles, then of course you're gonna think the graphics are bad. You have to come into it thinking about what it was MEANT to be played on. Honestly, to me, a lot of DS games still hold up really well in the graphics department. But that's specifically when I'm playing them on my old 2DS. If I try to emulate them on my 40 inch TV, they don't look right. You also have to consider the power of the console, and how old it is. The original DS came out in 2004, with graphical capabilities around the level of an N64, maybe a bit more. You can't look at it on a massive TV, comparing it to current consoles. You're just gonna come out thinking it looks crap by comparison. And it's really not fair to the console, or the games.
no way, a bejewelled butterflies mention! my grandma would get crazy high scores in that game, id play it too its sooo addicting, although bejewelled poker is my fave if not for the fact on mobile you only get one "free go" of the game i'd have spent hours on it... these recs are kinda awesome and beastmode i have an awesome little list to start filling my ds with, i love cute games but its hard to find them on the basis that no one categorizes their games that way 😅
I barely ever comment on videos but it made me really happy to hear someone talking about big bang mini; it was possibly my favorite game as a kid because of the visuals, and when I first went back to it as an adult I was surprised at how fun/engaging the mechanics were. It definitely encouraged me to start looking into more bullet hell games, though I haven't found anything i like as much yet!
Thanks for sharing! It’s great to hear someone else who liked Big Bang Mini! I never hear anyone talk about that game! :D there isn’t much else like it!
Thanks for the info on ds hidden gems! I’m really enjoying bejeweled 3, it’s a game I wouldn’t have bothered with but now I’m hooked. The butterflies are great but I also love the timed bombs quest.
Among the best hidden gems videos I've seen. I'm late to the show but keep up the great work. The one suggestion I would make is highlight more developers and publishers. I tried to read them of the box but had trouble with the focus and constant movement.
Ultra Hidden Gem for DS: "Ore ga Omae o Mamoru". This is a very competent japanese 2.5d metroidvania from IdeaFactory. There is an English fan translation available of the rom.
Nice to see Luminous getting some love, another couple i dont hear much of but enjoyed a lot where Infinite Space and Hoshigami, yup do love a good turn based. Still play AW Duel Strike....and still haven't beat it.
I like the fact you are highlighting different and affordable hidden gems. Just picked up Boulder Dash Rocks & Soul Bubbles for less than £10....bargain!
I always thought Feel The Magic is a game that is surprisingly good, I know it's really silly but I had the game at DS launch and happened to end up liking the gameplay of the minigames
I really enjoyed feel the magic too! I would play it after school with my friend on the phone and we would be talking about what mini game we were on 😂 good times!

Good channel! You're actually enthusiastic about the games you talk about, there's some spark in the eye.
NO one talks about Big Bang Mini. Thanks for giving it some love - wonderful DS
game!
I'm starting to see that a lot of these hidden gems are just games that people thought were too Japan-y to be localized.
Yeah you’re probably right, either too “Japanese” or didn’t get many copies printed or little advertising back in the day which makes them harder to find these days
Fabulous list - i have 400+ DS games and you put titles on my list.
Just ordered life signs.
Cheers.

Great video as always! Happy to see Bangai-o spirits on this list, it's one of my favorite SHMUPs for handhelds.

I’ve been really excited for this episode. I’ve been adding to my ds/3ds collection again lately so I need some new ideas. ;)
Hope you enjoyed it and found some new games to play! :D
Henry Hatsworth is the greatest still-hidden gem on the DS.

Where is the part 2? I really loved your recommendations here
I love that your talking about hidden gem games that even I've never heard of.
damnnn seems i have a new channel to dig into, good content my man
Glad you found my channel! Enjoy the videos! :D
Loving the list mate, loads of titles there I haven't played before so can hunt down now and enjoy for the first time. Thanks for putting this one together 🎮🏴☕👌
Clash of heroes is so good. Probably one of the best puzzle RPGs. Lost in blue is fantastic as well. Great job on a great list.
I'm actually remastering the Nanostray and Nanostray 2 soundtracks.
Haven't heard of most of these titles, some seem very appealing to my taste in games.
Thanks for this cool video 👍
i really am adoring gaming helping me with depression. I'm very glad to have found your videos, I'll talk about it with my bf also. keep it up

Amazing :D what are you planning to collect? Or just anything you can find? What’s your favourite retro system?

Yes, Bejeweled 3, butterfly mode. I remember playing that but on iPad. However, I have 3DS and R4 flash cart so I’m gonna install that game.
Line Rider takes me back to the computer lab at college.
That Boulder Dash version looks really cute.

Waiting for the post to deliver my ds lite , saw a couple games I liked an definitely going to play on it. Thank you bro line rider is definitely one✊
ah such great choices thanks, I forgot i have Nanostray up on a shelf already!
i feel like a hidden gem on the ds would be orcs and elves I picked it up at a garage sale years ago, it’s still my favorite game on the ds

I still don’t own that one! I used to play the flash game a lot back in the day though!
I didn't know ds also had battery in cartrige like ol' gameboy, that's another point for using homebrew stuff on sdcard rather than using cartridges.
These were some really interesting gems👀
Gonna be on the lookout for a couple of these👍
Would you consider doing another hidden gem video for the DS and maybe ones for N64 and GBA?
Nanostray 1 n 2 are my favorite
Try to get a hold of Lost in Blue 2, its my favorite in the series.
ummm..these are The Hiddenest Gems! ive never heard of half of these! thanks so much.
you guys sgould check out ultimate nes remix if u like old retro games and feel ds is perfect for it
