This was such a joy to watch, brought me back to the days where youtube was actually good, filled with passion for art and creativity and not brand deals and highly scripted videos. Thanks for saying how meditation has been helping your art. I’ve been noticing I’m incredibly impatient with my art, expecting that in one sitting I can maintain laser focus and interest the entire time and bust out something fabulous quickly - even though I know that’s bs! I’m going to try meditation again, art had always been that for me but I let the business of life bleed into it too much. Your control and thought with the gouache was lovely to see. Thanks for a great video 😊
Oh wow, that was seriously so nice to read. Thank you!☺ I honestly feel like my purpose in this life is to connect with people through creativity and be as positive and supportive as I can be, so your comment about trying meditation again is incredibly encouraging. Meditating has been a huge help for me, not just in my art practice, but in being present and surrendering to what is. I started with 7 minutes, and after a few weeks, worked up to 20 mins. And yeah, I feel the difference for sure... my mind feels more quiet... and when I'm painting, I'm painting, I'm not thinking about a million other things, or worrying about everything being perfect. In general, I feel more accepting. I don't beat myself up. Thanks again, I really do appreciate your thoughtful comment. I'll share more about what's helped my art practice, cause I've been through the slog and I honestly feel like I've come out the other side with some helpful nuggets to share 🙃
I think it's cool how the cardinal came out. To me, he reminds me of a cool dude with a beard and sunglasses on. Or a celebrity with a shadow under the beak and wearing sunglasses. I like it either way. 😊
Would love to see you replicate something from the 1973 animated movie "Fantastic Planet"! I believe the artist was Roland Topor. I've been fascinated by the movies artwork since I first say it!
It's great that you left this comment because just last night I found out that he actually made these by first doing paper cut outs, then making screen prints! But, most illustrators and graphic designers from this period did in fact use gouache to paint their designs... the precision they had was incredible! Thanks for commenting! Hope you're enjoying the channel :)
Definitely enjoying your channel, great seeing you tackle these graphic style art techniques by hand while giving some tips on your experience while doing them.
Great video as usual. I really need to practice getting the right paint consistency. Everything you do goes on smooth and accurately. I feel like I'm just pushing paint around.
@@gonesavage thank you! And I’m sorry you’re struggling with consistency… the exercise that helped me the most was painting a whole bunch of swatches for a homemade colour wheel. I had to mix the primary colours to make the secondary and so on… the practice of mixing, then painting about 100 swatches really helped me. But it was intense haha! Aside from doing that, I recommend adding just a tiny bit of water to your mix at a time… the smallest drop, then blend blend blend, then another tiny drop, blend blend blend, etc. keep doing that until you have a smooth, easy to apply consistency. Let me know if it works!

love the texture on the paper!
You noticed! I'm glad you mentioned it cause I had forgotten that I used cold pressed watercolour paper! Thank you 🙌

I should hope so, MOM! I love you and thank you.

YES! I love this request. Thank you! 🤩
its strange, and amazing that he was painting these wonderful creatures and scenes before the introduction of computers.

@@brenrich3250 Thanks! That's great to hear. Let me know if there are any artists you'd like me to try to replicate. And thanks for watching!
