  • Recently we had an on-site demonstration of the incredibly innovative MirrorEye Camera Monitor System by Stoneridge. MirrorEye is a new solution designed to fully replace traditional mirrors on Class 8 trucks with a combination of wide-angle cameras mounted outside the cab, and mirror-shaped screens mounted on the A-pillar inside the truck.

What happens when the camera or monitor goes down(because its electronic and that happens) and you don’t have regular mirrors to back up

But when the camera breaks then what will you use when the truck has no physical mirrors?

The other two comments beat me to the punch. Let's continue to make drivers lazier. Cutout all the electronic crap!

Not at good idea to have these on trucks. 1 - all electric devices can fail, 2 - in hot or cold environments ( you go home for the weekend ) your truck sits and in a hot condition if it's 100 degrees out side it's 120 or more in the cab the units over heat and in cold environments the screens will freeze both making them useless. $40 or less for a mirror ( life of the vehicle ) VS $100s to replace the screens ( 2 to 4 times being replaced over the life of the vehicle) 3 - driving a night the brightness of the screens can blind the driver . 4 - at night the reflection of the screens on windows on the opposite side of the cab turns that window glass into a mirror which can reduce the visibility of the driver .

An extra unnecessary maintenance cost. Cost of freight is barely keeping up with the overhead cost of during business.
