Drinking a big one in Screaming Mad George's honour ; dude's so wild, just love the way his sfx works looks and feels on a kinaesthetic level. Also his work on the the first person pinball PSX game Paranoiascape, shit's too good. B)
The Whispers is the segment I remember the most. The last scene where the Migo reveals to chop off her limbs, eating her bone marrow and harboring her unborn child horrified me.
I really love your videos! Would you be interested in doing a full video on Guldeen The Future Wanderer? I can find nothing about it and it’d be cool to have all the information you found on it in one video so maybe more people obsessed with mecha stories hear of it!
Thanks! I''d love to do that in theory, but the Guldeen info from that video was pieced together from Japanese wiki (google translated Japanese wiki haha). Even on Japanese internet the sources on it seem minimal.
I think the best adaptation of Lovecraft into a Visual Medium is last year's Housing Complex C, it knew exactly to keep off screen while playing with the Abstraction of Anime. It also managed to remind me at times of Higurashi and any number of obscure random 70s horror movies you might have seen a random DVD boxset with 50 movies for $20.
ok hold on now, I did NOT know Summer Vacation 1999 was a Heart of Thomas movie! Been letting it sit in my backlog this whole time like an absolute bozo I can't believe this. Awesome, awesome vid as always! Can always count on you to have the same specific brainrot as me 🤝
Oh I think you'll looooooove Summer Vacation 1999. It has a fascinating vibe all on its own. Big fan of Heart of Thomas, but Vacation ended up reminding me of/feeling like a precursor to Haibane Renmei and Kore-Eda's Afterlife. I'd be really curious your thoughts!
It's actually kind of surprising Godzilla hasn't fought Cthulhu at some point. I mean, there are plenty of Lovecraftian elements to Godzilla certainly, but actually doing Cthulhu himself would've been pretty easy and Japanese productions are not shy in adapting Western public domain characters when they want. I want a Showa era tokusatsu actor in a green cuttlefish mask with big veiny wings.
Maybe is because Cthulhu has almost zero physical presence in most works he appear, even in the ones that show him most of the time is just a vision or just doesn't do much physically. Also Gojira doesn't have many lovecraftian elements at all, Lovecraft style is most defined by cosmic dreadd against the unknowable vastness of the universe that makes us insignificant, and a lot of the times just Howard's skepticism towards science and the pursuit of understanding of existence itself. Gojira on the other hand was created as an representation of the atomic bomb and over the years shifted back an forth between the original representation of man-made destruction and being a hero that fights other monsters. The only thing in the franchise that has lovecratian elements is the third Godzilla Earth movie, where Ghidorah is portrayed in a very lovecraftian style but that is it.
Hiii, i know this isn't probably the right place to ask but do you have a MAL, Anilist or AniDB account that i could follow? I'm always looking for people to follow so i can get recommendations from the stuff they got on their watched lists since is kinda hard to find stuff for me now after watching anime for almost 30 years. I'm currently marathoning almost all of your videos so don't worry i will give this one a proper watch once I'm done with the rest.
What happened to the edgerunners video ??? Also, hearing lovecraftian horror and ghost in the shell in the same sentence I know this is gonna be a good video ❤
the horror of the air conditioning breaking down
That Aquaman movie is a decent adaptation of The Shadow Over Innsmouth
Agreed, actually.
I will never be able to watch Aquaman the same way
Unwittingly typing 'Summer Vacation 1999' into UA-cam and getting flattened by a huge wave of retro playlists and digitised VHS footage.
Yeah, the title really doesn't help with how hard it is to find.

' Cool air' The story that got me started into the Lovecraft lore❤❤❤❤
The Whispers is the segment I remember the most. The last scene where the Migo reveals to chop off her limbs, eating her bone marrow and harboring her unborn child horrified me.
Watched this a couple years back with some friends who are obsessed with the '06 adaptation of Silent Hill so that connection is really cool
This story was adapted as a radio show as well.

You mean in shin godzilla?
Wow, I never would have heard about this.
I'd really love to here your thoughts on Patlabor, specifically P2.
Very sad that I really want to watch this movie after hearing about it, but there's no real way for me to find it.
Guyver vs Cthulhu when?!
'Guyver vs Cthulhu' - broadly the concept behind tabletop RPG CthulhuTech. Sadly it was executed poorly.

I don't, sorry! I do quite often post about what I'm watching on my twitter, though.
