    Dear Michael,
    Thank you for educating us all on bel canto, and the correct techniques that we should use and practice, as well as debunking all this awful misinformation and flat out nonsense on youtube. Before I found you my singing voice had no structure due to all these "singing teachers" who would say a different thing, and had contradicting views. The only other teacher that helped me a bit was Roger Burnley, as he helped my get rid of unnecessary tension underneath the base of the tongue, but he would always say to not breath before singing, and to try to really make a frontal sound. So, it put my voice in the false mask, my voice was very bright and nasal, and while this did get rid of my tongue tension, and swallowing muscle tension, it was just an ugly sound. When I found you in 2020, I began practicing your methods and ideology. I soon realized the reason why my voice was so nasal and bright was because i wasnt breathing, and my placement was very wrong. I came across your points of leaning videos, and my favorite method was the sliding back method that I still practice everyday. I also liked your legato method. My singing voice now has a nice tone, and it feels connected, it feels structured. It just makes sense
    Thank you for everything from the bottom of my heart. I have nothing but love and respect for you.
    I wish you all the blessings in the world, and a big hug from me.
    -Sincerely yours, Ituriel Gutierrez

    Michael Trimble, what an inspiring singer/teacher you are! Thank you for your generosity of spirit in sharing your vocal wisdom. In this video I can clearly hear the proof of your observations as demonstrated in the beautiful sound of your singing. May you continue educating us all for as long as you feel the passion to do so. Bravo and God bless you.

    Good to hear some more teaching Disclaimer: this theory/technique is easy to understand but hard to apply. For me at least. Then I started focussing on my lower body muscles and imagined singing through my eyeballs... throat bypassed. Its hard to get but once your body understands, very freeing as you said.

    yay I'm so glad you're making more videos! Question for you: What causes a "gravelly" sounding voice when singing? I feel that it is sometimes worse when I don't have good breath support, but does that have anything to do with it?

    • @Tenoretrimble
      @Tenoretrimble  Рік тому +1

      Yes, Nathan. Breath has everything to do with it. Caruso called it in his book............"The massive power of the respiration required for great singing." Richard Tucker said, "See? The voice does nothing! The breath does everything!"

      Practice singing and speaking with a tissue or toilet paper hanging in front of your mouth, close to the lips. If the paper moves while singing or speaking, that is your problem. You must not leak air, but allow only sound to come out. Breathiness is a serious flaw in singing and can cause nodules to form on your vocal cords. Mt

      @@Tenoretrimble Thank you! I will definitely work on that. Keep in mind that I was in the ICU and on oxygen when I was born, so I have a low breath capacity which causes me to get vocally fatuiged easily. So I REALLY need to work on my breathing.

    Hi Michael, i am struggling with the fact, if i can use the breath support/appogio for talking? and if there is a different best practise method with breath management for normal speaking vs singing?

    • @justgivemeanumber8215

      yes, you can. I recently learned all this new way of breathing, and I can actually talk now lmao. I noticed when I bumped into someone at the store, and a steady sentence came out of me "oh sorry, I was just looking to my right"... before I would just mumble something incomprehensible... all air would leave me fast and the person wouldn't understand anuything

    Hello maestro Trimble! I am glad that you are making videos for us. I have a question... I am a 22 bass singer, I can sing the low D from Osmin aria "O wie will ich triumphiren" but i have problem with the high register(D,E flat, E natural, F, F sharp) . I am in the third year of university at Bel Canto. I have never been able to sing the high register of a bass voice correctly... I feel my neck very hard, the muscles are very engaged. I know that the first rule of bel canto is no action in the throat but this happens to me even if i try to avoid it... My teacher says that i should open the throat more and more in order to sing high notes, but I feel that my voice is totally in the back and I cant sing... I hope that you will see this message and talk to me... I am very sad of this situation...I don't want to lose my voice... You can check my UA-cam channel if you want to see how I sing now and what should I do in order to sing correctly. Thank you very much! Blessings!❤

      How do I speak to you, Andres? Where are you? Call me on Skype at michaeltrimbletenor and I will return the call as soon as i can. I need more information about you. I must learn which time zone you are in (I'm in the Seattle, Washington area which is the Pacific Time zone). I'll need to consult the "World Clock" to figure out the Daylight Savings Time. We changed our clocks yesterday, for instance. So, send me basic info about where you are and make an application to Skype and we will have a talk. You have a very special voice because of the beautiful color you produce. your throat is so stretched and spread open that there is no way for you to support your tones. Your throat should open only as much as the inhalation provides. You are a small man as basses go and you must begin to develop your body strength and breath capacity immediately! Caruso said in his book that "the open throat is maintained by the power of the respiration". Your breathing and breath capacity must increase a great deal until you are strong enough to hold your gorgeous voice. Never spread the throat open by using throat muscles!! only use the vertical opening you get when you breathe exaggeratedly into your lower back. The throat must relax to open correctly and the relaxed open throat is a result of long, deep, inhalations into the lower back. Have your read my book or Caruso's book or any books written by great singers of the past? you must inform yourself as much as possible while you are young. Your voice will naturally get bigger as you get older. You must get the breathing ahead of the voice and be very strong in the "massive power of the respiration" described by Caruso. I listened to several of your videos and the problems are always the same.... a spread throat (too big!!!), a big open mouth (too big!!!), no deep breathing into the lower back (too small!!), no development of the expansion of the chest (too small!!!) , no clarity or purity of the vowels (all too big, open and spread!!!!), no resonance in the True Mast, as it used to be called, but only the hollow resonance if a spread, exaggerated opening of the pharynx. Anyway, I could go on, but it is not my intention to discourage you in any way. you are handsome, musical, and your natural voice is exquisitely beautiful. Start Yoga today! Start a trombone as soon as possible, Swim 3 or 4 kilometers EVERY DAY!!. Ghiarov played clarinet and trombone, Siepi was a long distance ocean swimmer, as were Caruso, Corelli, Bastiannini, Joan Suthererland, Nellie Melba, Kirsten Flagstad, and Lauritz Melchior. Rosvaenge and Robert Merrill did extreme Yoga (Rosvaenge 3 hours per day for 55 years!, and Merrill did 2 hours per day until he quit singing at age 88! I'm 85 and I sing every day, all day, demonstrating for students all over the world (41 countries) and I never have problems with my voice. I sang 64 roles plus all of the big concert repertoire (Verdi's Reguiem, Das Lied von der Erde by Mahler,, etc) you desperately need a teacher who understands that the breathing does everything you need to do to sing in the opera. It takes time to develop it, but playing a trombone or Saxophone and Yoga and Martial Arts, and extreme breathing activity into the lower back will begin the process you need to develop. Where is the school you are attending now? I hope to hear from you soon. If you do not develop the "power of the respiration" (Caruso) to support your round, mellow voice, you will be like all of the young singers who disappeared along the way. I have discussed singing with just about every famous singers in the world during the past 65 years and they all agreed that extreme breathing into the lower back was the key to great singing. Siepi and Jerome HInes had big bass voices and great high notes and attributed the success of their high notes to DEEP BREATHING INTO THE LOWER BACK!!!!!!! Breathe deeply into the lower back and hold it as full as possible and the gradually relax. Rest for a moment and repeat it all day long! your are going to breathe anyway, so why not the old BEL CANTO method of breathing! All the best to you, Michael T

      @@Tenoretrimble Thank you, Maestro, for answering my almost desperate message. I really don't want to be one of the young singers who disappear because of a wrong technique. I'm from romania. I didn't study music at all until I was 17 years old, when I started preparing for admission. I didn't even know the notes on the portable, but I wanted to sing. I started listening to Siepi, Jerome Hines, Kurt Moll, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Laszlo Polgar, Samuel Ramey. they all made me wish for a career in opera. I was told that I have a very deep bass voice, so I applied to the "Gheorghe Dima" National Academy of Music in Cluj Napoca, Romania. I'm in my 3rd year of college and all I've heard so far from my teacher is that I need to open my throat as much as possible. I can't open it more than that, I don't understand what it refers to. I saw that I didn't understand much from him, so I looked for information on UA-cam and found you, maestro! And I am very grateful that you answered me... Just these days I was sad because I can't sing "Madamina..." from "Don Giovanni"... Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with my body since I can't sing a single aria... I felt like giving up. But your channel appeared like a ray of sunshine for me. Now it's night for me, but I would really like you to talk to me on Skype. I will even come to Washington, and I will repay your help. I will download my skype and come back with the id.

    Trying to breathe into my low back and sing to sternum at the front, why can I not get through my passagio with any volume or depth?
    Everything you do is so loud and easy! I have a connected head voice and it's not airy (trying not to leak air) but it is all head and sounds more like a soprano!
    How should I work on this? Anybody?? MT.

    • @rufinajames
      @rufinajames Рік тому +1

      Not being able to hear you, I'm guessing its two things: 1) back muscles are not yet developed and strong enough to support your voice. In other words, your breath is not yet connected to your voice. Keep working on stretching in the back as low as possible. Instead of trying to sing into the sternum right now, focus on keeping the appoggio very low - below the navel until you very good at it and its automatic. Then you can move the appoggio wherever you want without losing connection. 2). Go back and find some of Mr. Trimble's videos where he talks about starting a tone on a light falsetto and going down an octave into full voice, then going back up to the starting note, now in full voice. Its an excellent exercise in developing full voice and in training your voice to get through the passagio beautifully. If it doesn't work at first, stay with it over time. Just be sure to start on a very light falsetto.

    Hi Mister Trimble
    Glad to see you're well!
    I've managed a C5 which used to be impossible for me, but I've noticed my layrnx kicks up tries to choke me off as I ascend in pitch, and I have to take big breaks between attemtps at singing and very strictly rest so I don't injure myself.
    Is breathing really the whole solution?
    I've started doing the 40-step walk but can't afford even the type of voice lessons in my area.
    Should I just keep breathing, breathing, breathing and leave the voice alone?
