  • Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas early Monday morning, and is now a remnant low with its center over northwestern Ohio. However, most of the heavy precipitation from its rain bands has been displaced well to the north, over northeastern Michigan and Ontario, Canada.
A flood and tornado threat is possible today on the eastern flank of the system, with an enhanced risk in place for New York state. Beryl will continue to slowly wind down as it passes over the eastern lakes and into the northeastern regions.
Elsewhere, two areas of interest in the Western Pacific could form together later this week or this weekend. A large low pressure system is expected to form in the South China Sea, and a much smaller low is likely to initiate off the eastern coast of the southern Philippines. Rainfall totals could reach up to 500mm in coastal regions of the Philippines and Vietnam facing the South China Sea. Later in the forecast period, more storms could form and become typhoons further north near Taiwan and Japan.

@Forcethirteen How rare is it to have this level of inactivity in the WPAC and EPAC? The SST’s are way above average and the Oceanic heat content is off the charts in parts of the WPAC.

It's been persistently raining here in the Detroit area due to Beryl. Also according to Wikipedia, Beryl has caused at least $32 billion in damages and an additional 12 deaths in Texas. This will definitely be the last time you see Beryl on the naming list. Then again it’s Wikipedia so take some of that information with a grain of salt.

If it's retired, probably due to impacts in the Caribbean rather than the US.

Wikipedia only shows >$6 billion on Hurricane Beryl. It’s going to be retired regardless of damage at this point.

@@robbylevy290 Briefly, it showed 32 billion that's why I said to take those statistics with a grain of salt.

Also, statistics tend to be reassessed. Before making her Texas landfall, Wikipedia said that she made 22 fatalities. It then dropped to 11, went up to 12, and then made landfall. After that, the death toll eventually rose to 28, which it is now at.
