    Got married last October with an almost entirely DIY wedding, thanks to Jamie! We figured out that buying tablecloths in bulk was cheaper than renting. So we ended up buying ours and donating them afterward to our Church's parish hall, where we had our reception. They were very happy about it!

    I am a die hard Jamie Wolfer fan!! Watch every week. I proposed June 2020, made it through 2 postpones, covid, a 25 month engagement and now one month from our big day. You have covered SO much lovely information. 😍 Can you cover a video for typical ceremony and reception seating placement specifically. Like how close should tables be to the dance floor. Where do gifts/cards tables get placed? Tables for unity ceremomies - we have 3 (candle, wine and sand). We are struggling where to place our Tents and tables near the dance floor. ❤️

    I got married in May. Thanks for all your advice, Jamie! I reused my wedding arch organza cloths by tying them onto my curtains to make them even more decorative, and I'm putting my fake bouquets around the house. The most important thing for us was getting my husband onto my health insurance, which we needed the marriage certificate for. Now, I'm looking at a pile of thank you cards, blank on the back, very daunting. My husband and I did the easy part of putting stamps on them yesterday. Still have to think of the right words for each guest.

    Got married last year, was here before I met the other half so decided to keep watching for a while.
    So we did bottles and cans ( both alcoholic and not) at our reception ( which was in the church hall) and bought them in bulk and donated what was left over to my church for their next fête. The left over cake and desserts were leftover for the Sunday morning service coffee.
    Our DIYS adorn our house and we donated pretty much everything else. I bought a dress that I need to sell or donate.
    Would recommend if name changing multiple copies of the certificate. 😊

    When I was in the fourth grade I learned that women are supposed to change their last name when they get married. So I decided that I would never get married. I later found out that you don't have to change your name when you get married, so I begrudgingly decided that I would consider marriage.
    My boyfriend was pretty horrified by this when I told him 18 years ago, but he has since grown up and come around and has agreed that he will tell people to mind their own business if they ever questioned why I don't change my name after marriage. I've gone through so many headaches helping one of my relatives, twice divorced, with replacing lost Social Security cards and renewing IDs and all of the issues that come up with name changes. I'm not putting myself through all of that as well.

    • @user-emilyyyy

      This comment made me sad.
      I was honored to take my husbands name as his wife.
      There is such a deep and powerful meaning behind becoming one. After all, that is what a marriage is.
      Maybe one day you will reconsider. If you are basing your decision off of how you felt as a 9 year old and other people getting divorced, maybe you could try reflecting on what a marriage truly means to you

    • @studentloans3105
      @studentloans3105 2 роки тому +6

      @@user-emilyyyy I mean, I plan to take my fiancés name too (bc I like it better). “A deep and powerful meaning” though? It stems from women being property, and losing individuality in their marriage. I don’t think it’s some beautiful unification really, and plenty of people don’t do it anymore. It really is a hassle to change your surname, and I don’t think anyone should be judged for not wanting to lose a name they’ve lived their entire lives with.

    • @jadedixon3641
      @jadedixon3641 2 роки тому

      @@studentloans3105 exactly. I don't really want to get married for this "women as property" reason. If anything, I've come to despise the idea even more since I was 9 years old. And since I have college degrees, a career, and a reputation built up behind this name I'm certainly not giving it up to get married.

      Some male-dominated societies also have the tradition of women keeping their names (see China back when it was definitively male-dominated under the law).
      It's really the children's names that indicates whether a society of patriarchal, matriarchal, or egalitarian. Does one's name die with you, whether you keep your name or not? Or does it get passed on to the next generation? This is symbolic of the society's values as a whole.
      I'm drawn to how Iceland has done it traditionally -- one's last name is based on the first name of the parent who shares your gender. This seems truly egalitarian, although I suppose non-binary people would need to do something different or choose a parent.

    If you do DIY preserving your flowers with resin, they’ll need to be dried first as water will cause issues with curing. If you never plan to use resin for anything else it will likely be cheaper to hire someone else.

      6 weeks is pretty normal, a lot of photographers take about 6-8 weeks but with wedding season plus post covid rescheduled weddings, editing is probably more like 12 weeks or so. Each photographer is different and yours will be able to give you a more accurate guess, but don't feel bad about waiting this amount of time!
      Also if it helps, I've been to five weddings in the past year, I haven't gotten thank you cards from any of them. My one friend said she's still trying to send them out even at 10 months post wedding. You got this!!

      I used this company called NewlyNamed. I just bought it a few days ago so I haven’t started the whole process. But you put in your information and they send you a checklist and instructions and all documents needed to change your name. So you don’t have to do all the work. I got the downloadable one and it was $39. But they also have an option to send you a box with everything printed out already and it’s $89. I think it’s worth it because it feels kind of overwhelming not knowing where to start. Hope that helps!
