Her digging was a really good sign, but perhaps it was too humid. At 1:06 you can see how the mat clings to the side of the box like some sort of paste, which is a sign of degrading mat. That said, keep up the great work! I can't wait to see what comes next
hoping for the best! look on the bright side, even if you don't get any eggs you still be left with the husk of a dead hercules beetle which makes a great display. good displays sell for quite a lot. in the end it will be what it will be, its all learning for the future though...
Off topic but protaetia fusca is the easiest beetle to breed It only needs rotten leaf soil (dead leaves mixed with garden soil and left to ferment for a month) and they lay lots of eggs They take 6 months from egg to adult and they live (as adults) for 6-12 months Edit: best dead leaf for them imo is indian almond leaves
You can increase the chances of your hercules beetle by changing the room's temperature from around 20 to 26 degrees, which will help the room's temperature match the environment in Ecuador.
So cute!
Right?
:(. The beetle is beautiful tho. You should try keeping ants too, they are amazing!
Thank you, she is a beaut! I would try keeping ants but my roommate is barely tolerating the beetles so I don't think they'd want ants too haha.
@@beetlecast ye lol

Always looking forward to your advice! I'm going to mix in some more mat to balance the humidity and hope for the best.

Haha, it's definitely all a learning experience. When she eventually kicks the bucket, it'd be a great time to learn how to make a good display!

Flower beetles sure grow fast! I'll have to see if I can get that one specifically but may opt for local species. Thanks!

Thanks, I'll try to keep it around that temp!
