As someone who partied a lot in my younger years, here is my two cents. Some ppl get very violent and aggressive when intoxicated. After a few drinks, the slightest thing will set them off. And i avoid anyone who gets aggressive when drinking and try to exclude them from my social circles. Such ppl once drinking are a ticking time bombs. If it wasnt this poor guy, that dude would have eventually killed someone else intoxicated.
My brother is like that. He's normally a pretty peaceful guy, but after drinking he starts fights with everyone. I think this victim ran into a guy like that too. Young people should hear this so they know the risks of hanging out with strangers while drinking!
And yet, b/c their sentences are only a couple of decades, they'll only be in the late 40s when they get out and who knows, might be quietly released due to overcrowding and good behavior.
@@robbiddlecombe8392 That's absolutely true. I've also seen many fights break out between friends who are under the influence of drugs and someone gets killed. Then they are remorseful once they are sober. All their lives are ruined because of taking drugs.

I know right? What happened to spending the rest of their lives in prison? Yes, I know in NYS, a life 42:11 sentence is like 33 yrs. So if they want to throw away the key, the ruling will be multiple life sentences. Sad story and cruelty for nothing.

Exactly! He’s an unconscionable and hardened criminal! Luckily Jeffrey cut ties with him after learning about his rap sheet which he likely didn’t share. One shudders to think what he’ll do to Jeffrey in the event they get into an argument and he inherits all of Jeffrey’s wealth since he’s the legal son!
If you’ve ever partied with guys that do cocaine you can believe this can happen. I was trying to talk to this girl at a small gathering at at house I had never been in, with people (other than the girl) I didn’t know, when all of a sudden I said something as a joke that this big guy took offense to, and before I knew it he had his hand around my neck. If the girls hadn’t talked him out of it I’m not sure I would have made it out. He was alllll zooted up. That crazy drug strength/anger/lack of reasoning that comes with coke. After that night I played it much safer. Getting laid ain’t worth dying for. Don’t go to houses/apartments you’ve never been to with people you don’t know.
The concept can be applied to dating apps. The tragedies stemming from dating apps are hardly shared with the public because these are insanely wealthy companies that lobby accordingly.
My rule is this, I'll go anywhere privately by myself, but I won't accept any drinks made for me and if drugs come out, I leave. I'll only be around coke users if I arrive with friends.

What 26 year old that is somewhat sober just says “oh I’ll leave my phone with you and get it tomorrow”? That is so F-ing weird. Makes no sense to me at all.
That was my first thought. Since the guy was already probably having a secret relationship with the Jeweller. I feel like once the girls left and they were all dudes left alone they probably thought Joey would swing that way/ and since they were already probably drugged up maybe his response rubbed them the wrong way and they attacked him.
Of course, there was a sexual relationship between Jeffery and James!!! Sex is the only reason a wealthy older man would suddenly begin to fund the lifestyle of a random guy he met at the gym.
Never leave your friends. Never go to unfamiliar homes. In college I got robbed of my purse, keys, everything bc I stupidly went to a party alone at an unfamiliar house. It was my neighbor so I figured I was safe but these two guys conned me. One flirted and distracted me and the other grabbed my bag right off my arm and ran out of the house. It was horrible. @katharine2435, Wow, that's quite a story. Years ago I was at a friends house for a party, I didn't know anyone else there. I wondered at first if the jeweler wanted someone to take over his business and legacy since he was childless…and tried to redeem a bad boy into a golden child, as it were. Since the jeweler might have been gay I thought that could be a possibility. However as this story wound on I slid more toward the belief that it was a way to cover up a relationship of a very different sort. I’m not sure that had any bearing on what happened to Joey other than the fact that these young men had way too much money and time on their hands and Joey was a little star struck by the invitation. Someone under the influence can definitely turn into a rage monster and instead of taking Joey to the hospital for injuries and going to jail for assault (and drugs) they made a horrible situation even worse. Rest in peace, Joey, you were well loved and justice was served.
I remember one night out drinking and these two women walked in. There was one i noticed who was looking at me smiling as soon as she seen me. I thought about going then got outside and something told me no. So, i told them i was good and she started pulling my arm begging me making a huge scene. Im glad i changed my mind. I’ve been a fan of true crime shows for years and I’ve watched hundreds of episodes on different series and I don’t think I’ve seen any parent as broken up as this poor man. My prayers are with you and your family. As the mother of two sons about the same age, many times while watching true crime shows I’ve been grateful that I don’t have a daughter who is more vulnerable to be preyed upon. This is a stark reminder that young men can be just as vulnerable if they meet up with a group of sociopaths like poor Joey did. Every time I see devastated parents who’ve lost children to monsters I pray to God that I’m never part of this tragic club. Just the thought of it is unbearable, and I can’t imagine surviving the actual grief!
A family torn apart because of drugs. What a waste of a good life. I lost my daughter waiting for a kidney transplant, that was bad enough, but she was sick and it could be explained. To lose your healthy child for no good reason is just unbearable. I feel their grief and I know that anyone who loses their child will grieve everyday for the rest of their days. It’s just not the order of things. I pray for them and hope they can learn to manage their grief in the future. God bless.
Hopefully nothing happens to your kids and you teach them not to drink, do drugs, or go to immoral places, or hang out with friends who do these things. Their safety and protection shouldn't be compromised by this "they are grown up and can make their own decisions" crazy western mindset

@@anton48103 calm down, I said I agree with you. I was just going by what the show said. Why are you being nasty asking if I suffer from hybristophilia!? 🙄
I’m from New York and remember when this case was going on. My friends and I used to go to the gilded lily. So sad for this entire family
James Rackover's attorneys are both physically and morally repulsive.

Omg seeing the tattoo at the end on his fathers arm made me burst out in tears. I have 1 child..a son. I cannot fathom the pain that these parents live through. My older brother was murdered by 4 ppl, and the only time ive seen my father cry was when we viewed my brothers body. 💔 ....prayers for his parents and his long term girlfriend, and all his friends. Im so sorry for the tragic loss of your beautfiful baby boy.
