I am 51 and now I am a co-owner of my own sheet metal company here in Ontario, Canada. My partner taught me this trade and we've been in business for 6 years. If I could go back in time, I would have gotten into this trade when I was 18. It is not all roses... some residential crawl space jobs are a bitch. But, I find it to be a very fulfilling and rewarding trade. Great video and I highly recommend this trade to those who are thoughtful and motivated. We take huge pride in our work and are reputation is top notch. It is nice to see the customer's reactions to our installs. I can sleep well at night knowing this. Good luck apprentices, you can do it!
I’m just starting in school for the sheetmetal and roofing doing all the same stuff I’ve been a welder for several years and metal fabrication so I’m also learning different things, 2 weeks in out of 16 it’s the best thing to happen as it’s welcoming trade
This is an AWESOME video!! My husband always tells me about his day at school and work but to see him makes my heart so happy💕 The ending brought tears to my eyes.... that's my husband working hard providing for our family. Thank you for the video, Kelly

I did my apprenticeship in a small school in a state with a weak union. (Not gonna say where) but watching this makes me think I got totally robbed in my education.
Sorry to hear that brother. I did my apprenticeship right here so cal L.A. We were very lucky good teachers and nice shop and equipment. I still went back to take classes as a journeymen. More certs the better.

We get paid double that plus pension, 401A and benefits.
I really want to learn and get an apprenticeship. I worked in HVAC company that didn't teach us the right way of doing things.
The SM union in LA has a total package more then double what you list for a journeyman. That includes his take home pay, pensions, medical, ect.

What is the salary range for this type of work?
SoCal and NYC makes at the minimum $100k a year. When business is booming, it's very easy to get into that 120k to 150k ballpark range with OT.
