I've been to court on charges with an expen$ive lawyer, a cheap lawyer and with a government appointed. Most the time, it doesnt make that much difference unless you just have some insane lawyer. I bet a 5k lawyer would have gotten the same outcome.

    Serving 3 years will likely be the easiest part for him. But the probation of not wearing blue, not referring to himself as cripmac or drinking 40s, all while having to remain in LA will be the most difficult challenge of his life.... damn... but he can make it through.

      It's like house arrest and it's hard if you're an average Joe but Crip Mac can still make money while living comfortably indoors taking and spending time with his newborn daughter will make it all worth it and do able. Trust a year of not being able to do anything is better than 8+ years indoors and still having mandatory probation afterwards, why you think so many get sent back

      It's what they do i got a deal to move my probation to PR from Oregon Judge DA everyone on board had a job was sober and a place I was renting letters drug tests everything. Went to probation and a computer from interstate compact and transfer said no. I got on the plane anyways and they reduced it to a misdemeanor unsupervised but j had to commit another crim to escape.

      There needs to be more context as to why he can’t leave. If he has to stay due to him missing court dates multiple times it’s on him. They could also hold him in jail until his court date which would have prevented him getting a firearm.

      The reason that this is a normal part of probation is that the county has a responsibility to the rest of society when they release someone on their own recognizance. It would not be right to allow a known criminal to potentially commit crimes in other areas.

      The simple reality is Mac is making it crystal clear he knows what neighborhoods to avoid and just goes there anyway with a pistol at his hip, as an open gang member and apparently while hanging around with gang members.
      Judge is telling him to halt all gang affiliated activities and fully avoid areas he knows are dangerous for him. This is completely reasonable

      Especially considering it's not his first gun charge, he's a verified gang member and has "HOOVER KILLER" tattooed across his forehead. I didn't think they were going to give him the 10 but I thought in the 5-6 range for sure. He's extremely lucky, to only get just under 3 years in prison is a blessing. I hope he realizes how lucky he was and changes up his ways for his sake and the sake of his family especially his newborn daughter.

    1:26 was that the firearm, Crip Mac was caught with? That pistol had an auto-sear. His lawyer only got 33months, with priors, and an illegally converted select fire pistol (I.e. full auto conversion).
    Crip Mac should have been buried under the jail, with just the priors and the auto-sear.
    His lawyer was worth every single penny.

    I’m sympathetic to the situation, and I like Crip Mac. He seems like a good person overall. That said, I don’t think he should have a gun or go places where he thinks he needs one for protection. He self-admits that he has paranoid schizophrenia, that’s just a ticking time bomb letting him walk around with loaded guns. There has got to be a better way to keep him safe.

      Part of the issue is that he was ordered to stay in a place that would constitute the need for defense. Rather than being removed from a place where people would look to hurt him to gain some form of respect, they left him there, without anyway to defend himself.

That didn't work here because he didn't accept a plea deal, just got a better deal in the end because he pleaded guilty instead of wasting time with a trial. But when the state offers probation as a part of the plea deal, the attorney absolutely can negotiate terms and length of probation

Once hes out, he cant ever say a sentence thats being recorded or leave the four walls of his house.
      The name of his fucking cashapp is a violation.
      Without someone in the legal world deciding to be particularly kind to him and giving him a lot of lee way, hes gonna be out of a jail for a week at best.

    Unfortunately Ive been in a court room a lot. It is very common for a judge to give a speech about how upset they are over the charges and make you think that you are going to get a harsh sentence.

      then they will take into account aggravating factors, like criminal history etc. this can add more to that range initially identified.
      then mitigating factors like personal and medical history, and whether it was a sophisticated attempt at crime or not and circumstance surrounding the offense at the time.
      then the judge will look at chances for rehabilitation and options that will focus on encouraging that and how they can be implemented.

But at the same time they aren't going to give these people any type of protection in case something does happen, hence why people like him will carry a weapon for defense...which will then be a parole violation. Not a great setup.

    those talking about the lawyers speaking ability, yall are ignoring the fact he got 33 months instead of the 120 months of the maximum he was looking at, even though he pled guilty. the lawyer did his job. 50k is about a years salary for an average person, so i would say 50k well spent as it saved him multiple years in prison. ive got problems with the legal system as a whole, but that lawyer did exactly his job, real life court isnt how saul goodman portrayed it to yall

      Exactly. Lawyers often sound like that when they're pleading with a judge to be lenient on you. My lawyer was incredible in trial. Opening, during, closing, he was captivating and I beat multiple cases with him at my side. In times where I knew I was cooked and pled guilty, he sounded just like this lawyer bringing up the mitigating factors and pleading with the judge to be lenient on me. Not sure why but it's very common lol

      @@Cardb33 no. no. no. they got him an absolutely terrible lawyer, what a shame. i had a case and also had my lawyer fuck it up but at least he could speak fluently. i couldn't believe when i heard him make his statement. it's not an exaggeration that i could have literally freestyled off the top a better statement that that without even knowing the details of the case, that's insane.

      @@foobully A terrible lawyer that got him less than 3 years on what could've been a 10 year sentence? I don't know if I agree. A lawyer sounding the way he does in the clip doesn't automatically mean he's a bad lawyer. My lawyer was amazing and he'd sound like that when bringing up mitigating factors and pleading with the judge to give me less time. In trials? I beat two cases with him by my side and I thought for sure I was going to lose the one case. Lawyers that are helping with a plea deal don't do their best work in court they do it outside the court room.

    Crip Mac who is a felon caught a gun case before this gun case and got a great offer he’ll parole out next year, Crip Mac could’ve got life in state of California & the feds didn’t pick it up being his 2nd gun case as a convicted felon, 99% of the felons locked up in the feds or state fighting a gun case would sign for this offer in a heartbeat
