The words are from the Book of Ecclesiastes- the music by American folk legend, Pete Seeger.

This is another one of the most influential folk rock bands from the 60's. The Byrds covered a lot of Bob Dylan's songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Mr. Tambourine Man", "Turn! Turn! Turn!", "Eight Miles High", "All I Really Want To Do", "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better", "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere", "So You Want To Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star" etc. David Crosby was originally in this band before he became part of Crosby Stills & Nash.

Dagmar, you're everywhere I go but you usually get there before me! 😊 Our taste in music must be the same or we must be about the same age & have lived through so many years of great music & now we have Home Free too! 😊

The Bryds were massive in the 60's. This is one of their greats. Gee we had some great sounding bands back in those days and no fancy computers or electronics to alter, rearrange and manipulate the music. Just great natural music.

Your smile says it all. The Byrds were fabulous and still are, 50 years later.

STAN, my favorite Reactor: I have always loved especially this song. And it has a message of Hope. That 12 string guitar drives me "crazy", always reminding me how difficult it is to make something sound so good! THANK YOU!

A song of Dylan's that they covered that I really like is 'My Back Pages'. Worth checking out!

A great band! Great harmonies and they always had the electric 12 string guitar! Great sound! Their songs sound as fresh today as they did in the 60's. Yet, this song takes me back to the best time of my life .... the 60's! Thanks so much for this video!

The Byrds were formed in California in 1964, the same year that the Beatles came to America. In a way, they were the West Coast's answer to the Beatles. Other great songs: their version of Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man, Eight Miles High, So You Want to Be a Rock and Roll Star, Mr. Spaceman, I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better, and the largely underrated Renaissance Fair.

Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan was their biggest hit. Eight Miles High was early psychedelic rock. All their songs were great. I saw them on April 7 1967 at the San Jose Civic Auditorium.

always love songs with that jangly 12 string guitar... and I still own a pair of tinted "granny glasses" which were very popular in 1965-66

Yup--mid 60s. They did electric covers of a lot of Dylan songs such as Mr. Tambourine Man, My Back Pages, The Times They Are A' Changin', The Bells of Rhymney covered Pete Seeger and this one covered Pete Seeger covering Ecclesiastes. (Some would argue that this is the oldest surviving pop song in the world.) But they really added a unique element to these songs, so no one (except maybe Pete Seeger) minded the covers. "Eight Miles High" was a more intense psychedelic tune. Byrds Greatest Hits includes a lot of these songs. In the late 60s they went into more of a country-psychedelic influence, which wasn't better or worse, just different and remarkable in its own right.

Loved your reaction, Stan! I grew up with this music & loved this song. Some music in this era was depressing because, thank God, I didn't get mixed up in the Hippie crap, so I can't stand all the drug references & anti-everything!😊

And before that The Hollies, another group with wonderful vocals. "Look Through Any Window", "Bus Stop", "On a Carousel", "Carrie Ann", "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" and others. Just typing those titles makes me want to hear them again. Stan should try one of them.
