    Great content my friend, I want to add that just isolation is not enough, because there are external vibration, but also intrinsic vibration created by the component itself, for example transformer vibration. The ideal device should be able to drain that vibration into the platform underneath. Isolation only footers will trap those inside the component

    Molto Benne! Good info. Vibration isolation does make a difference. I have my turntable on a Relaxa floating table made by SAP. It immediately increased the sound stage and tightened the bass and detail. Virbrapods under components and Gaia isoacoustics III isolation feet definitely helped, too.

    I use a $3 bike tube with a marble chopping block on top of it for my turntable.
    I'd like to see a double blind test of someone consistently choosing the CD player with the fancy feet over the stock feet.

      Crazy prayingmantis You may want to try a wood platform such as Maple. I find that Marble or any very dense substrate seems to ring like a bell at certain frequencies: wood seems to not ring at all. I would be interested in the results of your experiment.

    When i deejayed in athe loudest nightclub in the world. We had a pair of 1210 ml2s. And a solid limestone dj booth. It helped a lot! Never had any issue because it was so solid. I justlike the look of the isanoe feel. So am looking into it.

    coupling or decoupling, a lot to say, most of a time both, coupling and after decoupling.
    cheap isolation platform can be done with sandwich, try with what you have, for light electronics : unscrew feet, 1 layer of soborthane on layer of cork.
    midweight or transformateur too buzzy, spike on wood+cork+wood.
    Thinking kitchen or cutter mat for having cheap source of different thickness of silicone, they aged better than rubber who loose their dampening property.
    For valve equipement, suspended valve base or plate who have the base + resistor and cap is very efficient for isolating the valve.
    Be curious and try, you don't need to spend a lot of money at start, you can combine with good products like vibrapods or hemispherical sorborthane linked in the description,
    have fun and enjoy.

    Just go out and get an accelerometer, mount it to your base - you might need to amplify the accelerometer's signal. Hook it up to a scope and then, using a oscillator into your system, you can send any frequency you want through your own speakers and measure any harmonics....if you really want to know what you've got.

    Very nice explaination about resonance dampening measurements.
    However, you said that 'suspended dampening' is often very expensive.
    I have suspended insulation feet made by Isonoe, those are fairly affordable (like 130 euros for 4 pcs.) and work very well with Technics turntables (I also have a SL1200G).
    This suspension is made up of two aluminum parts and several rubber rings. The inside part of the feet (which are screwed under te TT) are hung up onto multiple rubber rings. Those rings are connected to the outer part. Its a very basic principle, but it works very well.
    Also, a wall mounted shelve can be very attractive to those who want to place a turntable in a room with, for example, wooden floors.
    This way the turntable gets decoupled from the 'unstable' floor and is mounted onto the solid wall.
    The best types are made out of a stiff metal rack with an MDF plate on top (and height adjustable spikes in between for dampening/levelling).

      no I only switched the feet and the cables. especially the ground cable that came with the TT seemed to be of very poor quality, very fragile. The standard neoprene mat, in contrary to the cables, is doing its job very well, has great vibration dampening properties. I added plates made of sorbothane with glass inlays under the Isonoe feet though, because I live in a house that is like a low-freq vibration conductor. Sorbothane is very good for decoupling lower frequencies, however it's not really suitable for decoupling higher frequencies.

      these improvements only make a true improvement when playing music with much basses and things like feedback from walking around, closing/opening doors etc.

      @@anadialog Recently, I might have found the best SL-1200G upgrade possible. The KAB TD-1000 liquid tonearm damper.
      It not only reduces vibrations in the tonearm significantly, but also lowers and decreases the effects of the tonearm resonance frequency.
      So a bigger range of low and high compliance cartridges will suit the tonearm very nicely when the damper is installed.
      It also helps tracking warped trashy records.
      At first I was skeptical, but when I realized this damper has dynamic damping characteristics instead of just giving resistance to tonearm movement, I took the plunge.
      It certainly is worth a try and is very affordable! Vibration dampening feet and mats are great upgrades, but this damper is... amazing! 👍

    Good info. Thanks. I use a lot of different ways to fight vibrations. It is a lot of work but it will pay of.
    One special mention: I had some good results with vibrapods under all ‘disc’ equipment (CD, DVD, Bluray).
    Not very analog, I know, but still a good tip ;-)

      Thank you Ivar! Yes, I agree. Vibrapods are great also under digital sources. This is true also because this typologies of sources is VERY sensible to vibrations, perhaps even more than turntables!

    Star Sound Technologies makes some of the best points and platforms. Unlike most manufacturers, their points are made from a special brass that doesn't corrode or tarnish. The energy actually travels down the outer surface of a point, not through it. So any tarnish is like the surface of the moon on a microscopic level that's slows down the transmission of energy.
    Secondly, individual platforms are superior to racks because components on virtually any rack will transmit vibration from one component to another, degrading the sound. And even though cable lifters may seems like overkill, the Shunyata Cable Elevators really do improve the sound in a high-end system.

      No it doesnt the energy transfer is by mass coupling and the point has a very small surface area so it efectively reflects the vibration back up the cone of the spike, as well as down to the footer. Generating a small amount of frictional heating at the point of contact, to disapate the vibrational energy.

    Many thanks for your so helpful series of videos. Regarding vibration, I do have some experience and would like with your permission to share it with you and your viewers:
    Unlike analog machine (in particular a turntable machine), a CD Player output signal is not affected by vibrations (you will not see the vibrations added to the analog output signal) as long as the reading of digital information is not interrupted by the vibrations. (no reading errors occur).
    Turntable is the most sensitive component because it is a mechanical to electrical signal converter. a casset tape might also be affected
    Tube amplifier is relatively more sensitive then Transistor amplifier (but far from a turntable) because the Tube has high level of "micro-phonic".
    Other then that, you would not want to hear mechanical vibration noise physically coming out from your equipment (i.e a metal enclosure of your gear is vibrating) while listening to your music.
    How you can test this statement?: If you intentionally apply a mechanical vibration to any of your gear (except from turntable of tube amplifier or loudspeaker cabinet). Example: (using a tool) generate a knock on the enclosure of your amplifier. The mechanical noise heard from the gear enclosure (which represents a huge level of vibration) will be much louder from the electrical signal (if any at all exists) generated at the output of your gear, this means that there is not need for special anti-vibration treatment. On the other hand, if you will try this on most of the turntables, the unit will generate a significant electric signal, which justify any measure of vibration isolation applied to this machine.

      Hi there, I agree and everything but I disagree on the CD. It's not only a matter of reading but of converting, interpolation and handling the signal. People tend to think that digital is just 1s and 0s but the reality is much more complex and full of issues that filters mask somehow but not perfectly and nit always effectively.       As always, the matter is not black or white, but rather how to quantify the subject.
      On a CD, assuming correct data reading is done, all mechanical vibration that might affect the reading become non relevant. The Section that might be affected by vibration is the analog section from A/D and on (this include also the crystal that generates the A/D PLL clock) . I estimate that this section sensitivity to vibration would be no more than that of a standard Aux level Transistor Preamp.
      Much less than Phono Pre Amp section because signal level is 100 times higher, and much much less (1000 and more) then mechanical Analog player like a cassette deck, and further lower then a Turntable which is the most sensitive part for vibrations. So to quantify the sensitivity according to the above estimation, taking a Turntable sensitivity to vibrations as reference 0dB, a cassette would be -10db, phono pre amp - 20db (tube) - 30 dB (transistor), Aux level -40 dB. Power amp: -40dB to -50dB.
      At these levels, it is possible that the unit enclosure vibrations might generate higher audible noise than the electronic noise it might produce.
      The Above dB levels are not real numbers, are just to give some numbers behind my statements. It can be tested by applying a controlled level mechanical vibration on the product enclosure and measure the output signal generated from the device. You would want to prioritize the anti vibration treatment according to the unit sensitivity to vibrations.
      Thanks again for your replay, I do appreciate a lot your videos and my comments are for the purpose sharing and improvement of knowledge.

      Well, maybe that is not such a good idea after all. It depends. If the wall is a supporting wall, with a high quality decoupled shelf then it may have sense...must also be precisely leveled..

    Concertmeister basso isolation pads are amazing. Sold according to weight of component you wish to isolate. About as close as you'll get to a floating speaker.

    Why Delrin (or Polyoxymethylene POM, the heteropolymer of delrin aka acetal) rather than Polyethylene (HD, or UHMW), or Polycarbonate (which has dampening), or ABS for that matter?
    Note, Delrin is a homopolymer of acetal, made by Dupont. It is pretty much the same as regular acetal which is a heteropolymer.

      Hi Cesarin321! Sure, that is the AUDIO PHILAR double anti-vibration platform (audiophilar.com/en,double.html). I just want to underline that I do NOT have direct experience with this product. I just inserted the photo because it was a good example so for this reason I cannot recommend it. In any case, any anti-vibration platform of decent quality will do the trick. Otherwise you could substitute the feet (if possible) or buy a good quality hi-fi rack.

      Try Auralex Iso-Tone, it's not super cheap but one of the cheaper isolation platforms for turntables. Just check that it is the right dimensions. You could always level under the feet of the turntable, with cards or some sort of riser.. saves having to level the floor sometimes xD

    I need a good / cheap steel framed DJ booth.. currently using ikea expedit on side, with a besta 180cm ish TV stand on top, to allow 3x deck and raised height. Not that great! But does the job. Wish I had something sturdier though with steel etc.

    I bought a vintage record player recently and had to do allot of work to get it working but now all I need are new feet. The original rubber feet were probably dry rotted and are long gone. Any recommendations on what I can do or should I use one of these solutions from video? I was thinking of cutting up a sponge for new feet. (Making sure the record player remains level of course.)

      Hi TheTarrMan, good job in refurbishing you turntable!
      I would not recommend using a sponge since the foam pushes upwards and all turntables have different weight at each corner. You would be facing a strong unbalancing. A cheap way would be to use the "Deflex/Milty Foculpods", or the "SorboGel Qfeet"
      or simply some "vibradopds". More fancy and effective solutions would be to replace the foots with audiophile grade feet like the "Isonoe Audio Isolation System" possibly together with the "Isonoe sorbothane Isolation boots". The foot replacement is obviously dependent on the presence of screw holes on the back of the chassis and their dimension (M8, M6, M4 etc.).

    Vibrations is something I can't stand and that I see most people using spikes/cones to try to get rid of them but spikes and cones just makes the problem even worse imo so I use only soft feets trying so isolate my things from the surroundings.

      Not of decoupling is done properly because it absorbes the vibrations.

    I hang my Turntable from the ceiling with pieces of screen door spring and small chain using screw eyes into 2 pieces of finnish grade 3/4' maple glued and screwed together..After watching this I am thinking of trieng bungee cords..

      I have both. The superspikes are just good spikes kept in position, that decouple. The Gaia has a complex dampening geometry. Its a totally different principle. IMHO the Gaia does not have rivals out there.

    A trained ear is required. Most novice listeners get frustrated and start giving disinformation about isolation products and noise reducing cables.

      Dave Jones, Yes! This is a very intelligent a wise comment. I completely agree. I must admit though that sometimes the results are so evident that it is clear and obvious to anyone as the Gaia Isoacoustics of you are coming from absolutely nothing under your loudspeakers!

    Thank you for an informative video, I definitely see the clear benefits and best outcome in isolating a mechanical source like a Turntable and a vibration producing source like a Speaker . However I really believe that isolating any solid state component ( like a power source, cable or amplifier) from vibration may affect its longevity. And as long as there are no magnetic fields around , I fail to see how it possibly can affect the sound that it produces. However there are many people who swear by it, I wonder if anyone has studied the latter phenomenon as a placebo effect though ! just a thought.

      Hi Kamal, the cases you describe are in fact probably the more subtle in terms of quality increase. I must admit that a friend of mine inserted high quality decouplings under my mains filters and there was definitely a benefit, nothing dramatic obviously. After, I did the same with vibrapods and at that point I also must admit that there was no effect...cables? That is a little too much for me although it is a good idea to keep them off the ground.

      Solid state devices resistors transistors capacitors well all vibrate to a small amount in time with the alternation current passing through them- this will also translate to parasitic vibration at the natural phyical resonant frequesnt of the device. These vibrations can be transfered to the casing of the unit (depending on it manufacture) hence the noticed effect of damping on some equipment.
      It's really only and attempt to overcome some poor engingeering implimented due to price-point/profit. Dont get me started on Thermionic tubes =microphoics big time! But are put on prowd display on the alter of audiophilia. Usually in the center of much vibration and airpressue change.
      usually negating anything done with vibration control elsewere.

    Show me some proof that vibrations in a normal listening room affect solid state electronics. I bet you can't show me any data to back this up. And please don't tell me that some things can't be measured.

      Hi Dale, as mentioned in the video, solid state electronics suffer much less than all the rest of the system. Nevertheless, even solid state can encounter microphonic issues generated by vibrations. One of the weakest components are the capacitors, which unfortunately do generate some microphonic distortion.

    Seems like a lot of pseudo science.
    How can physical vibrations influence the sound from a CD player or amplifier ?
    If these isolators are so important, why aren't they integral to expensive units ?

      It seems, but it isn't. In the video description you will find a peer-reviewed scientific article that explains how capacitors, present in all electronic machines, are negatively influenced by vibrations. And that ia only part of the problem. Yes, in some cases they do implement solutions to reduce vibrations but only very few do that because in order to do it properly it is quite expensive. For instance, one of the main differences between the Technics SL120GR and SL1200G are the special damping feet.

      The article cited discusses the a piezoelectric effect of capacitors when placed under electric field i.e. they vibrate locally on the PCB when exposed to an electrical field. This isn't something that chassis feet would be able to address. Nor do chassis feet address how well capacitors are attached to the PCB or how well the PCB is attached to the main structure of the unit.
      I'd be interested to know what frequency and amplitude these isolators address and see an FFT plot of the sound with and without these isolators.
      The Technics SL120GR and SL1200G are turntables, which I didn't cite as examples for wondering how physical vibrations influence the sound.
      I understand the sensitivity of turntables to external mechanical vibrations as they use a balanced arm to delicately hold the needle onto the record withins a small range of forces and use the indents in the records surface to generate sound.

      Don't focus only on PCBs all electronics and mechanical gear suffer from this. A decent isolation will improve performance.

      That article you linked centres on the durability of capacitors in an automotive environment, e.g. cars.
      It states nothing on the impact, if any, of accelerations of a fractions of those experienced in an automotive environment on sound quality from a home sound system.
      I'd need to see FFT plots of with & without isolatores before I could be convinced and it would be interesting to see how the Vibrapod Isolators at £22 for 4 compare against the IsoAcoustics Gaia-Titans at £600/4.
      To me it just seems like a way of selling small, shiny bits of metal for an exorbitant price.
