My recovery journey was greatly enhanced by the therapeutic benefits of mushrooms. Other psychedelics like DMT and LSD have also proven to be remarkable.
Psilocybin mushrooms,DMT and LSD has been quite therapeutic for me. I was diagnosed with severe depression and mental health issues, not until a friend recommended golden teachers mushroom for spiritual and mental gratification. I’ve been well ever since for about 4 years now.
Same here, psilocybin is an awesome medicine. For me, it’s helped so much more with depression, SI, and trauma processing than any pharmaceutical I’ve tried.
Michael Pollan. I just can’t get enough him. His wisdom, his empathy, the subject matter he writes about. And his Netflix series is def worth watching!
@@Iggins420 I thoroughly enjoyed “Cooked”, but he’s got a new Netflix 4-part series out called “How to Change Your Mind”. I found it interesting and thought-provoking.
I owe my life to mushrooms and MDMA 💓🙌 I had notes half written, and my exit plan ready, when I heard a podcast about the John's Hopkins studies on using these things to treat depression and PTSD. I decided to give them a shot as a last attempt to find any reason to stay.... And they absolutely worked! They completely changed my outlook on everything! They showed me new perspectives on my traumas, and renewed my hope, my mind, my love of this life. I can't even imagine ever thinking in the ways that I used to. I'm SO excited that these amazing healers are on their way to help so many people!! Humanity needs them badly. This is LONG overdue!
Mama Smurf, I am so interested in this. Can you give me more info? We actually have psychedelic mushrooms (high quality) at our home. My husband has been gently encouraging me to consider trying them for years. He has experience and has always had a positive experience with them, but I am scared to try them (I hate being out of control of my brain, like getting drunk), and he says I should not do them, unless I really WANT the experience (no fear), or I might have a bad trip. I have trauma from Rape, 3 other physical sexual assaults, domestic violence (not with my husband!), and another instance where a man held my daughter and I at gun point. I have a therapist, but she is my second one, and while we have made some strides, I feel like this is taking so long (I have been in therapy for about a year total) and I am getting further traumatized by other things while the slow progress occurs. For example: Jury Duty. I went willingly and was seated on a jury to hear a child molestation case. It triggered me bad as I heard the charges, I went into traumatic reaction, and by the time the judge got to me to ask if I could serve unbiased, I could not even speak because my throat was clinched down tight, tears were welling up in my eyes and I was in full flight or fight mode. I was forced to admit to my rape against my will and in a very public way, and that really made me mad. It's not the court's right to force on me---it's my decision when and who I tell about my rape. I was dismissed immediately by the judge, but the damage and humiliation in that packed courtroom was done. That was in 2019. I just got another Jury Summons a week ago, and I went into full on crisis, body symptoms lock down on my person, the moment I saw the Summons envelope from the court. I cried violently for 2 days until I saw my therapist. I really need this. I am 5'7' and about 170 lbs at 53 years old. I sound heavier than I am, I have a decent amount of muscle for my frame, a 38DD chest and when most people learn of my weight, they can't believe I weigh that much, if that helps. And suggestion on dose or other info would be greatly appreciated.
This guy can take a lot of credit for the mass revival happening in psychedelic therapy. Amazing to think how many people are going to go through life changing experiences in part because of Michael Pollan.

Psychedelics helped me deal with my addiction. Having suffered anxiety and depression as well. I must say taking them turned my life around. I started micro dosing and just in a couple days I noticed major changes in my stress levels, depression, and everything else. It's been really great. After battling with these for years, it was indeed a breakthrough for me.
They'll be conventional treatment in a couple of decades. I work in a field where I help people source Ket, Psilocybin and other drugs and they're far and away more effective than anything currently available for a host of mental illnesses and disorders. I've seen people go from dysfunctional messes to complete turnarounds. I personally have had depression and anxiety that crippled me for most of my life, totally mitigated and with other benefits across the board.
In a span of 5 years after substance-inclusive therapy, 'my friend' went from not caring whether he lived or died to living a meaningful life, with an indispensable and lucrative career, a family, and a drive to help others and spread Light. He also saw others around him die because the drugs (and ego deaths) caused them to feel like life is pointless, so they spiraled into addiction and some even killed themselves intentionally. These are powerful tools that everyone should experience in some limited and meaningful way. But they are tools and not cures or solutions. The results will vary from person-to-person.
@@spadress I cultivate shrooms and supply various other products like microdosing caps. It's not legal but pretty unconventionally it is done in a community-based setting and I provide harm reduction and education plus a forum where various people can discuss all of this stuff. Many including myself are having to self-medicate while watching for occasional groups and studies being done with assisted therapy. It's not accessible to most people at the moment. Yes, it appears that too many people can’t cope with life as it really is, so going on a special mental trip is the only way out other than death. And too many people seem to think this is a wonderful thing. And then there is the issue of whether and how these drugs negatively effect and change the brain long-term. There is really no hope for the human race; we are at the core of our own destruction as a species. One of our biggest faults is the inability to see anything “beyond the end of our noses.” Long foresight is in short supply.

Psychedelics have changed my life in all of the best ways. I had NEVER experienced childlike joy (even as a child) until I tried them. It changed my whole perspective on life and showed me the beauty of it. I credit psychedelics for not having offed myself. Pharmaceutical drugs can help, but plant medicine show you life. (Both are helpful)
FYI, mushrooms are not plants. They're fungus. They're a completely separate kingdom of life forms. If you want to change people's minds about things like this, don't give them ammo for pointing out you don't know the science. Also, stop lionizing the fact that they're natural. So is hemlock, nightshade, snake venom, etc. The chemical structure is what matters, not how it came into being.
His closing comment about MDMA (ecstasy) doesn't get into the history, but before it was a club drug some couple's therapists used it in the 70s and 80s. They called it "Empathy" for the way it helped people understand each other's feelings.

Michael Pollan is my favorite writer and the person I would pick if I could have dinner with only one famous person. Loved him and his writing since Omnivores Dilemma! ❤️
I had 5 psilocybin doses last year, 2 5MEO DMT sittings, and one MDMA sitting. They sorted out my own experience around moving forward in life with one person but also being a father and how to love infinitely and unconditionally. It’s made my life infinitely better but at the end of the day, it takes the integration, meaning that taking it without an intent to learn from it and observe my own thoughts post and not only during I order for it to have a lasting effect. So far sp good amd I’m so happy I left my mind open to it.
My level 5 psilocybin trip changed (or rather confirmed) my view of the universe, it's meaning, and how it (probably!) operates. I honestly think all human beings should go through this type of experience at least once in their lives. It would solve so much conflict. These substances expand the mind and your view. Glad to see these drugs finally get the recognition they deserve. The psychedelic community has been aware of these benefits for decades. If you're thinking of giving these drugs 'a go' on your own, please ensure you read up on them first! Your environment/setting and who you're with can have a huge impact and will have a heavy influence if it'll turn into a 'good' or 'bad' trip. That said, all trips are learning experiences, even the dark and scary ones.
Psylocibin and LSD absolutely changed my life, in the best possible way. I am so glad for Michael Pollan and the movement to make them available for therapeutic purposes.

As someone having suffered depression (chemical level) and Panic Disorder for 26 years out of 36, I really and truly hope that this will happen and that it will be coming to Sweden within the near future, because living with no end in sight is just worsening my depression. Medication (SSRI) helps me, but CBD is illegal so I have nothing against panic attacks as I refuse Benzo. If I quit my SSRI, depression symptoms will return within a month despite me being a Positive Polly as a person. Imagine if I could go and get a guided Psilocybin session, deal with my issues and be rid of my mental illnesses... I get that big pharma wants anything but that, but if Psilocybin proves to be effective then I WILL grow them myself and treat myself. I'd rather be illegally cured than legally unwell for the rest of my life.
Hey, you should NEVER just stop taking an SSRI! If you do decide to get off of it, you have to do it gradually, a little bit each week until you are down to nothing. Stopping taking meds like SSRIs suddenly can cause horrible side effects, including suicidal actions. I had a friend growing up who stopped taking his meds suddenly and then he killed himself. Just be safe, I hope a better treatment option will arrive for you soon, but please be aware, SSRI's are dangerous. My parents were doing underground therapy sessions with people using Ketamine and MDMA in the 80s before they become party drugs. It's been amazing to watch them come full circle and become viewed therapeutically again after all these years. I was disappointed that Polin never mentioned Ketamine in this interview because that is the most effective drug of all for depression imho.
Absolutely, it's helping me, thru guided sessions... an amazing experience - but the best part is the change in quality of life in the days, weeks, years, afterwards! They really could help transform the world into a better place.
I have bipolar disorder and I did ketamine (administered by a psychiatrist) in 2020, and while it didn't improve my severe depression and anxiety (very few things have), I'm glad it is now available as a treatment option since it has been shown to be quite effective for depression.

I wanna try it, but I live in dumpy Wisconsin where we can't even legally get medicinal marijuana even if you have cancer, which I do. There are ways... magic mushroom spores are legal in most states and can be bought online, once aquired with practice you can "garden" them. Might as well get some portobello or shittake going too. Several common dmt containing plants are legal and can be purchased online, they then have to be extracted into a pure form, or brewed into a noxious tea called ayahuasca. Certain legal cactus contain almost as much mescaline as peyote and can be purchased online, again they have to be brewed into a more condensed version. All of this would require significant self education on your part, but are doable at home. This is not advice, I do not condone doing this, simply the rambling of a crazy person.

In my opinion, this is some of the best news of this century so far. And boiling half-water and half-vodka to make the tea, as was suggested in the article if I remember correctly, really did the trick and produced a wonderful night's sleep whenever anxiety kicked in. It's interesting to read the range of experiences people have had. One thing remains clear, if you're using them recreationally just to trip, chances are you will not have a profound experience. You'll get caught up in the visuals and that will be it. If you have intention to learn from it, it will show you some harsh and beautiful things about your self and life. Not enough people connect the psychedelic experience with the facing of the shadow in Jungian terms. It can be an encounter with things you have suppressed all your life. To anyone considering a trip: SET and SETTING. You need the proper mindSET happy and calm and sure a little excited... If you're fearful of the drug, if you're going through rough times, your mindSET may not be ready for a good trip. On the other hand, no matter how good your mind is, IF you're in a loud concert, a weird place, or someplace with negative associations for you, that may not be a safe SETTING for you to have a good trip. Set and Setting are KEY! The last piece of advice: take it seriously. These are extremely illuminating experiences. Be by yourself, with your mind. If you're just chit chatting with friends, it's not nearly as great as having transformative internal experiences.
i did mushrooms a couple of times in my twenties. being told that it's the same as LSD i chose to go the natural way, that way it's easier to get the right dosage. the key is to chew them long and well, don't take too many of course, ideally do it with someone you trust, and take the day off to fully enjoy the experience, maybe if you do it the first time, don't go out in public but do it in a space that you feel safe and comfortable in. it's something for a special day when you have nothing else on your calendar to do. but it's a great experience, i highly recommend it to do just once in your life, it's eye opening!
Good advice. I did it the opposite way; got into the rave and pharmaceutical field, a bunch of x and acid, then got to the mellow mushrooms. Had a blast with everything, took awhile to understand that with psyches I had to allow it to happen and ride it instead of it just hitting me. Back in the early 2000s we had so much fun and could go on adventures; I can’t imagine what the kids are doing with this stuff now that everyone has cameras on their phones and the ability to post directly to social media. @Prof. Weed Dude, I'm making the point that the safe, recreational use of mushies is cool. Getting fucked up and laughing like an idiot for 6-8 hours is OK. I don't give a shit about the therapeutic use of these drugs after you've murdered your family.
My son has mental illness. Can't get him to a doctor (he's 27) but seems he has either bipolar or schizotypal personality disorder or something similar. He took mushrooms and acid a few times with friends and every time had a "bad trip" where I had to sit with him for hours. He's also had bad reactions from smoking too much pot (he can have a little- mixed with some delta 8 or CBD even better- and that actually helps but there's some FINE LINE and he'll have like a psychosis response if he crosses it.) So, I hope the therapists are trained well to deal with this. He did say "risk factors" are evaluated. So that's good.
@Raul Cano EScuder thank you so much! I will check it out! I do think this could help my son but self-medicating won't! We need research and people experienced who can guide the process.
I was fortunate to have found Peyote in my early 20's that helped treat my bipolar, but when I started struggling after a long period of financial setbacks in my early 40's that prevented me from making that trip (pun unavoidable) I began growing my own psilocybin & now microdose daily. I lost my sister to psyche meds, don't gamble your mental health away w/anti-depressants & other crapshoot meds.
6:20 I heard someone smart say at some point that this is basically a myth.. That people drank alcohol instead of water because it was cleaner/safer... Can't remember who but I'm pretty sure it was someone who knew about that stuff who said it :P I mean they could just boil water and it'd be safer than alcohol... Distilled liquor goes through a boiling/disinfecting process but not wine and beer... And that's what you drank way back when. So this 'safer than water' factoid everybody loves quoting it really doesn't stand basic scrutiny.
That said, the part about people back in the day drinking alcohol - all the time - is true... Although both beer and wine were generally brewed much weaker than we're used to today.. Like wine might be 5-6% alcohol and beer 2-3%. There's apparently even respected and plausible evidence/theories that the whole reason we went from hunter/gather to agriculture was to facilitate making larger quantities of beer/wine. But, again - not because it was cleaner than water, presumably they just thought being drunk was really sweet... Which is genuinely the only reason to drink alcohol :P
@@AntonQvarfordt i'm sure there were far more reasons for, rather than against drinking back in the day as well. such as every health problem having supresticious answers. then another beer sounds extra good.
Alcohol is a disinfectant in itself, so it also kills germs and stuff, they didn't care about hygiene or cleanliness much back then (or couldn't even if they wanted to). I heard about children drinking watered down vine in the dry parts of my country and that was not that far ago, like 1950-60's
also, in poor peasant families, little children would be given alcohol so they would sleep for most of the day while the adults were working the fields and whatnot.
@@brngvrn I don't think pouring some beer on your wounds is going to help one bit. They weren't distilling (makes hard liquor, vodka, stuff like that) liquor back then, we're talking like 600 to 7000 years ago... They were just fermenting it (makes beer, wine, cider. Stuff like that). I doubt that'll disinfect a goddam thing - especially not by way of drinking it.
Psilocybin has litterally saved my life. I still feel bad but I would've taken my own life if it wasn't for microdosing. Unfortunately I live in Sweden who are many years behind the US (for example cannabis are highly illegal and probably will stay that way for a long time) so there's no doctor or therapist to talk about this with and I suffer from a lot of different problems. But psilocybin has been the only thing I found that can keep me manage my life. It's discraceful it's illegal. Wish I lived in Oregon.
Same here, I suffered terribly with anxiety, depression and sometimes an overwhelming fear of my own inadequacy as a man. I began my self-therapy with mushrooms in 1982, bought a house in Austin in '84 with a ravine and woods on the property and would go down there at night, get in a sleeping bag and let those puppies go to work opening up the psyche. And it was mostly painful - with spectacular interludes of joyous gratification for the divine experience of release and understanding. That was 40 years ago and I'm with maybe 300 sessions under my belt, still doing it about every 2 months. I took this project on having read in '77, Stan Grof's 1975 revolutionary first book ('Realms Of ...."), and again in '82. He is the master when it comes to the topic - the absolute primo authority and 90 years old now.
We used to use psilocybin in the early 90s for various reasons, in various situations, recreationally as an experience enhancer for a club, gig night out, or for a more spiritual experience in a safe environment, with a trip buddy, the right music. Even microdosing daily. This was before the internet, self learned. I can attest to the therapeutic benefits of mushrooms, but they must be treated with respect.
I absolutely respect, adore, and love Michael Pollan. He is a cool guy. I think I've read everything that he's ever written and watched everything he's ever put on the screens, at least that is readily available. I also look a little bit like him, I think.
It’s interesting how all of a sudden I’m hearing all of this talk about “mushrooms“🤔 I just watched Bill Burr’s comedy special on Netflix the other night and he shared what happened to him after taking mushrooms. I’m pretty sure I can go the rest of my life and never indulge😬 Good luck to any of you that go on this journey though 🙏🏾
I took 'em. Honestly, if you don't want to, but you do it anyway, you're gonna have a bad time. If you're curious, have a goal. Have a question or a subject to explore. An experience. And then just use the drug to gently arrive at the answer/destination. But again, only if that genuine desire exists.
@@peytongonavy there’s no desire for me 😆 I’ve experienced watching a few close family members deal with mental illnesses. Seeing people lose control of who they are scared me into never getting involved with drugs nor alcohol. I love who I am and life definitely has its challenges but overall, I feel loved and protected. So I’m good, thank you🥰
Mushrooms make people better people. They're extremely beneficial for the brain. Most of the tech billionaires now running trillion dollar empires were at the least microdosing back in the day because it promotes neuroplasticity. Ket, psilocybin and MDMA are far more effective for depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma than anything currently available. There are people with treatment resistant depression and PTSD that after decades of crippling issues have had their lives improve dramatically overnight with even a single dose of ket or treatment with assisted therapy. I'd wager you're only going to be hearing a lot more from here, being mushrooms have the potential to not only fix the current mental health crisis in many counties, but also help with a wide range of environmental and other issues. This might sound far-fetched, but it's really not.
My recovery journey was greatly enhanced by the therapeutic benefits of mushrooms. Other psychedelics like DMT and LSD have also proven to be remarkable.
Psilocybin mushrooms,DMT and LSD has been quite therapeutic for me.

I am REALLY hoping to try mushrooms. SOOOO SICK of constance suicide thoughts, since I was 13.
Yes, this is the reality. Psychedelics are very important
We are the pioneers of the sufferers. What has saved our lives will save millions of lives over the next hundred years.

Pollan’s books are so well researched and well written. Love his writing.
In what country are you at, how does that work? People source themselves and you sit them?
In a span of 5 years after substance-inclusive therapy, 'my friend' went from not caring whether he lived or died to living a meaningful life, with an indispensable and lucrative career, a family, and a drive to help others and spread Light. He also saw others around him die because the drugs (and ego deaths) caused them to feel like life is pointless, so they spiraled into addiction and some even killed themselves intentionally.
These are powerful tools that everyone should experience in some limited and meaningful way. But they are tools and not cures or solutions. The results will vary from person-to-person.

I cultivate shrooms and supply various other products like microdosing caps. It's not legal but pretty unconventionally it is done in a community-based setting and I provide harm reduction and education plus a forum where various people can discuss all of this stuff. Most I advise to go to therapists to discuss the approach. I have had some do so and their doctor advocate a pathway or approach including microdosing regimes. Many including myself are having to self-medicate while watching for occasional groups and studies being done with assisted therapy. It's not accessible to most people at the moment. I also help people obtain canna products while also referring them to companies where they can get scripts to medical canna products through legitimate channels. I'm in Australia.

I have bipolar disorder and I did ketamine (administered by a psychiatrist) in 2020, and while it didn't improve my severe depression and anxiety (very few things have), I'm glad it is now available as a treatment option since it has been shown to be quite effective for depression.
What is Ketamine?
@@ggjohnson5754 ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that has been around since the 70s but it wasn’t until more recently that it was discovered to be super effective for depression. It is also sometimes used/abused as a club/party drug, but administered in the right setting, it can be very therapeutic.
@@kmshultz thanks Kent, I read about it after posting. Experienced with ecstasy but never had heard of Ketamine.
I wanna try it, but I live in dumpy Wisconsin where we can't even legally get medicinal marijuana even if you have cancer, which I do. I called to ask about a Ketamine session at a new local clinic, but they were like, "It's not been tested with chemo." I feel like cancer in general would be a LOT more fun in Oregon or Colorado.
Dude, I too am ill in fookin' Wisconsin (a hundred years ago the most progressive state in the Union.) Visit Michigan--they will help you.
I’m curious about how a single city decriminalizes psilocybin, the way Ann Arbor, MI did. It would be funny if a small city like Green Bay or Appleton decriminalized it. Green Bay seems perfect for that being it’s strange anomalies. A small city with an NFL team and decriminalized psilocybin. Seems like it fits.
If it’s just city council voting, I’m surprised more cities don’t decriminalize weed and psilocybin but maybe I’m missing something. Anyone know?
@@tnijoo5109 that would be amazing. Honestly something we should start pushing at the smaller and up city level like Madison, Green Bay, Milwaukee, Stevens Point, Appleton.
There's a company called Field Trip Health with a Chicago clinic for ketamine sessions. I decided not to do it, but it seems reputable. You might be able to get what you're looking for there.

@Beckley white 3 comments just to advertise to a guy from the netherlands where psilocybin and salvia have been legal for decades
Thanks for balancing out just a little bit of the rabid fandom occurring all over these comments.
Everything good also comes with downsides and dangers. I see a whole lot of cherry picking success stories, and confirmation bias. People long for it to be rainbows and unicorns, and that's great. Me too. But let's get real... The vast majority of people do not have the guidance and caring support they need. Loving human connection is a necessary ingredient to well being, and nothing... not even glorious shrooms... can replace it.
It's legal already for recreational use already in Oakland and DC, where I live. I can place an order of psilocybin chocolates or a DMT vape pen right now and can openly pick it up in 90 minutes.
Where is that happening? City/State?
I could listen to Michael pollan talk for days and not get bored. One of my absolute favorite writers and I’m so grateful for the work he’s done with mind altering plants.
I've been saying this stuff for like 15 years now. It's pretty cool we're starting to get evidence to back it up.
In my opinion, this is some of the best news of this century so far. There's some evidence to suggest that even our human sense of self / consciousness may have arisen from (or been developed by) naturally occurring psychedelic substances yet we've been (mostly) repressing their use ever since. I genuinely believe this type of progress on the acceptance and use of psychedelics could mark the beginning of the next cognitive revolution for humanity!
This is our modern day Terrence. Michael is the Best Modern Mind alive Period!
I think the best thing about pollan is that he’s a bridge between cultures.

Pollan's first book, The Botany of Desire, was a game-changer for many, because it regarded cannabis in the same category of analysis as apples, tulips and potatoes. I have experienced weed, LSD, shrooms and cocaine in varying quantities and believe the experience(s) were instrumental in my development. It's VITAL to be able to look inside oneself in such manner.

Oh, damn, this is the guy whose article, back in the '90s, in Harper's magazine circulated and got photocopied between me and my other Western friends here in Japan, where poppies can be grown legally, and taught us the stress-relieving usage of poppy-tea! Just a happy feeling and no addiction in such a diluted form. And boiling half-water and half-vodka to make the tea, as was suggested in the article if I remember correctly, really did the trick and produced a wonderful night's sleep whenever anxiety kicked in.
I still remember my favorite quote... something like "Everybody wants to change the texture of their mind sometimes"
OMFG! It's John Malkovich's good twin!
I've had a run-in with 'schrooms. Absolutely _nothing_ happened. Right up until I seemed to be the least affected and my roommate asked me to grab a pack of smokes from his room for him...

Psilocybin was some thing I did in University, that changed my life for the better. It helped me find my way.
30 years of treatment for chronic, severe depression with dangerous medications that caused countless horrible side effects, without actually resolving the real issue. Eight weeks ago I began a psilocybin micro-dose plan and for the first time in my life I am free. I wake up feeling like I can handle the day, instead of that endless hopelessness that haunted me for decades. I could have done so much more with this life had I started this 30 years ago. But at least I can look forward to the future now, instead of begging for the end to come.

This guy is the perfect spokesperson for psychedelics. Relatable, wise, informed, funny, well spoken, empathetic and honest.
Amazing! Glad to see the psychedelic message spreading!
Some are not ready to enter that realm, hence the famous bad trip. This is where the benefits of a guided experience comes in. Watch his series How to Change Your Mind, it's great, very informative.
Reach out to the above name 👆👆 he got all sort of psychedelics products, shrooms psilocybin infused chocolate bars 🍫🍫, gummies, ketamine, LSD, MDMA, DMT, e.t.c. local plugs are the best.
Like all things, anything in moderation can be good, things in excess can always turn bad.
@@Tonyhouse1168 wow, i did not even think about that, these days it might not be such a good idea to this with friends cause it's all about posting it somewhere later. oh, the good ole days when we all felt safe amongst our friends :-).
Hold it it your lip like chew/dip! Stomach acid breaks it down and the mouth has tons of capillaries. Good when your in the woods. If your at home; definitely learn how to make it a tea! Both methods provide a much gentler experience.

Back In the day in Indonesia you could buy a mushroom omelette from street vendor. They knew exactly the difference between administering a recreational dose and a fatal one. My advice is; i) Don't eat 'mushies' more than 2-3 times a year. ii) Do it during daylight hours out in the bush. iii) Steer clear of drunks, bars and video devices.

6:20 I heard someone smart say at some point that this is basically a myth.. That people drank alcohol instead of water because it was cleaner/safer... Can't remember who but I'm pretty sure it was someone who knew about that stuff who said it :P
I mean they could just boil water and it'd be safer than alcohol...

I took 'em. Honestly, if you don't want to, but you do it anyway, you're gonna have a bad time. If you're curious, have a goal. Have a question or a subject to explore. An experience. And then just use the drug to gently arrive at the answer/destination. But again, only if that genuine desire exists.
