Gathering the dry wood was a very strenuous chore with the snow being so deep but your priority for warmth. Loved how you all worked together ❤ A tranquil video to watch, thankyou 🇬🇧 PS. I was worried about how you would sleep or if youd be safe
I respect and admire people who like that lifestyle, not only for knowledge, but also for courage, it is necessary to have "3 balls", to be in the middle of nowhere exposed to the inclemencies of the nature, as well as the risks of attacks by wild animals such as wolves or bears.
I've never been in more than a dusting of snow, so I don't know much about walking in it, but I was wondering why you didn't wear snowshoes? Great video! I have to live vicariously through vids like this because of where I live...
I've been in deep snow only a couple of times, but one problem i encountered was that if the snow is too fresh and too deep, snowshoes do not add benefit. Basically your foot is buried less deep in the snow, but a lot of fresh snow falls on top of the snowshoe, adding weight that you have to lift when you are taking another step. Also these guys were in a group so it was much easier to just follow the steps of the one ahead
@@ae-bd5gr I've lived in deep snow for almost a decade. Snowshoes are an absolute essential. There are times when you don't need them but in the thigh deep soft snow these guys had to cross it was foolish not to have them. They're new to the game, it's obvious to me but they did an excellent job regardless. Snowshoes would have made travel much easier and safer... In the type of snow they were in, they are a requirement.
@@ae-bd5gr get better informed "a lot of fresh snow falls on top of the snowshoe, adding weight " ... learn to use them. It's as if you're saying tires aren't essential to a car.
I've survived in a blizzard, up a mountain, in one of these snow dugouts ... just. Haha. You definitely had the best weather for the video. It would be a different story if it turned though.
Nicely done. I would suggest some things to improve on the experience. One thing to consider in such environs is the need to conserve the calories we burn getting things done. Folding saws are nice for the kindling cutting and cutting small branches and the chainsaw nice to take down larger trees/saplings, a good straight saw is better if using the correct one for cutting up the wood for whatever the use. I recommend the 22" Hautmec "Aggressive" that would cut up the trees/saplings much faster and if need be, more accurately. For the actual dugout from the pit, I would take the tallest person to lay on the snow where the dugout into the side of the pit would be and mark about two feet from the point of his feet. I would then pack the snow right there and add to it till it is the original level. I love that telescoping handle broad flat edge shovel you guys have and will now be sure to get one for my kit. Now, once packed to the original level and considering you are already getting live branch ends for the bedding, I would also cut some longer ones that would extend about two feet beyond the width of the three of you laying down. Lay those down over the dugout area and pack snow from the pit on top. Packing the snow in a mound is great idea but ALL artic regions are volcanic and earthquake prone and you do not want to have to try digging your way out from that packed snow if the earth shakes and that packed snow caves in on you. The branches in layers of the packed mound will give you a degree of safety. Only need a minimum of three layers of about 6 long branches per layer to help secure the snow. When digging out the dugout, dig up to the first layer of branches and then dig deep enough for you all to lay in there and be warm and not get wet from melting snow fal on your faces. Cooking and eating. Three young men carrying in gear so a slight extra weight should be no problem. To eat out of, three stainless steel bowls would work fine and easy clean up. a couple of stainless or plain steel dutch ovens would be great for cooking in. As the aluminum foil worked, I did see some of the potatoes get a bit burnt and some fall onto the ground. You have no idea of what all animals were there during the summer and fall/early winter months that could have pooped and or peed there. You really do not want that contamination to your food. And in pulling out some coals and placing some fresh sticks on top for the ovens to sit on and then cover the lid with coals and your food cooks quicker, less burning, and no spill out for waste and or contamination. One last item and it would be made and is not a direct need but for better comfort and health one might consider. Use to branches and or paracord to construct a cloths drying station that would get gloves and whatever dried and also keep some of the heat of the fire away from melting the walls of the pit. Does all that I wrote seem excessive? When it comes to surviving the artic cold out in the wild, it is these bits of information that can really come into play if such an event arrises that you actually NEED to survive out there in those type of environs.
I am just as guilty but be cautious when jumping on those trees or even trudging through deep snow with that hatchet in hand. Besides that all I can say is great content and you did fantastic with techniques. Everything that @Azri'el Collier mentioned too is awesome advice. Not sure if you do already, but packing some small fire starters can help with starting/restarting a fire in a pinch. Its nice to have if everything is wet/frozen and there isn't an abundance of birch bark, resin, natural materials, etc. Keep up the good work!
@@richardbanda4551 in a survival situation.......snowshoes might not be an option. 🤷♂️. You guys got something against doing a video in an hotel with heat? Don’t be stupid. Enjoy it for what it is ffs. Haters gonna hate ffs

At 27:30, U put some larger wood on the fire and then for some reason you got down and blow on it ???? the fire was already burning, you had a good bed of coals you didn't need to blow on it????
First off, wear snow shoes. Second I would have dug and built my shelter under one of the big trees, around the trunk. Less snow there, plenty of overhead cover and you can build the walls up to make a good well to sleep in with wind protection andd a smaller area to heat up. I saw no machete or snow knife which I would have included. These guys work as a team, which I respect, but they should have started earlier and worked slower. Sweat kills in the cold.
Only so much dead wood . In a area oneay have to mix green wood in ( oh no mow i pissed the tree huggers off . ,) You cant hug trees if you are froze to death or dehydrated .🤣
not only that but did they actually stay the night? kinda just cuts off at what, like 10pm? whos to say they didnt just get up and go home? cos that fire aint gonna last and they dont have any shelter from the wind or rain or snow or jack, i call bs and then what the fuck is that tree cutter? god damn ive never seen something so inefficient before, you want to minimize as much movement as possible to stop from sweating and over exterting yourself and here theyre using a fucking bike chain to cut down trees flailing their arms around constantly, like bro

Awesome. I love watching these videos. They are so primal. Basic.

great information on how to survive the cold nights if you are lost, more folks should watch this video if they are outdoor type folks.

Love the Bahco Laplander saw, easy to pack, cuts like a dream👍🏻
I love watching this these guys are awesome. Hats off to them to withstand the cold and elements to entertain you.
Great video! Excellent division of work! Very efficient!
I really enjoy this kind of content. I live in the desert but like to dream about scenarios where I’d have to survive in the cold/wilderness.

You could do some on surviving in the desert

Love the teamwork !
I really like that saw.
I love this set up
Not sure if you're aware of a new device to help maneuver in deeper snow. Makes it a lot easier. I think they're called snow shoes. 😎
Very interesting approach. You all worked hard!

Snowshoes are an essential part of this type of camping and I don't understand how these three outdoorsmen didn't bring them.

Take a small log or some tool and bang a wedge in when you get about 2/3 through the tree when sawing. It makes a difference.
