  • One of my favorite girl group records. The McKinleys were two sisters, Sheila and Jeanette, from Edinburgh, Scotland. Did not chart nationally in Billboard, but charted locally in the Top 40 in Springfield, Massachusetts in June 1964, the Top 40 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Top 90 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Top 40 in Windsor, Ontario and the Top 60 in Detroit, Michigan. Written by John Carter and Ken Lewis. B-side is "A Million Miles Away".

Love this!! I had the pleasure of playing bass for them at the Star Club in December 1967!!

Two pretty Scottish lassies with good voices. And songwriters don't come much better than Carter and Lewis.

I also had the pleasure of backing Sheila and Jeanette many times in the UK. Lovely ladies and beautiful harmonies.
They do say that the best harmonies come from the same family. I always hoped they would go to the top in the UK.
I think poor management didn't help. I hope Jeanette is keeping well.

This duo deserved a much better fate. Great vocals and great production. They did not know that their single had been released outside the UK until I contacted Sheila when I was writing my book about the UK's "other" recording groups of the 60's in which they are included. It also hit #40 in a couple of Canadian markets as well. Great duo.

I never heard this song before, nor have I heard of the singers. Was not played here in New York when I was a teen. Good song.

Been a masive fan of American Girl Group records since they were popular back in the 60's. The UK didn't often capture that American Sound, and many attempts where poor copys - this - however is spot on!

They performed a lot in Germany and both became very successful here in the 70s. Sheila (left) as a member of THE LES HUMPHRIES SINGERS (singing lead on many tracks) and Jeanny as part of the duo THE WINDOWS ! Their biggest hit HOW DO YOU DO ? was a cover of the dutch hit from Mouth & MacNeal. you can find video clips here on youtube and audio of Sheila's AMAZING GRACE with The Les Humphries Singers
