Military families are very different than most others, the dynamics are not something that most comprehend. It takes a special type of person to be a military spouse (male or female) and keep the home running smooth and safe while the soldier is away so the soldier isn’t worried or stressed about his/her family back home. I watched my mom juggle that job for 14 years when she married my stepdad (he retired in the late 90’s) and I juggled that job for 10 years as a US Marine wife until my husband left the Marine Corps. It isn’t easy but it is worth it.

As an old divorced fourth generation vet with TBI and PTSD, who watched as a youth what nam did to my two older brother, what my dad was like being a wounded WW2 vet, along with my three uncles. There is a price that gets paid. Because you might not be the one paying it, doesn't mean it was free. Freedom is on a loan that never gets paid off and there is always someone wanting to foreclose or find a way to take it and someone will pay the price or lose it. It is what it is.

@@jolee3633 well thank you for the kind words. Truth be told, I exist under a VA program for homeless vets, which I spend about 95% of my time alone. Which is probably not a bad thing considering I seem to tolerate stupid shit anymore, yet I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The way I see it, it was my decisions, steps, actions and outcomes that placed me in this situation and no one else, so I accept it besides, there is a lot of my brother and sister veterans that are worse off than me. Wisdom taught me, you can get so wrapped up with fighting the silent battle within, that you can lose everything outside of it.

There's another song called "If you're reading this" by Tim McGraw... it gives the perspective of what a whole family goes through with war and our vets here in America. As an army brat this hits me hard and I loved seeing your genuine reactions to this! Thank you and Jesus bless you always and IN ALL WAYS!

Military families are tough. My father was called many times. My mother was a tough woman. She held everything together at home. We, the children, just accepted and kept on doing what children do.

The differences between men and women is more than just physical. Most women who watched this song will say it was nice and patriotic. Men will have a tear in their eye.

I served 20 years in the Military been Stationed in Europe, Asia, Deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Storm and numerous other deployments the one thing the Military members worry about is our Family back home while we're gone. I served because I was taught Service before Self

I am a Blue Star great-granddaughter, granddaughter, daughter and mother. I have never been enlisted, but for many generations, we have fought in literally every war clear back to the Revolutionary War. My son is still in the military and so was his wife until recently. We are not the same as the average family; you are correct. We see the world differently, we know the costs. We do fill in the gaps and steady whatever and whoever needs to be helped. The line "cause freedom don't come free" is too true. When anyone asks why we fly our flag on our house, it's an opportunity for me to ask why they don't.

Nice as a British couple you're watching this. I served briefly w/British Soldiers in Kuwait & Iraq. Yeah, British military has prob downsized too much, but that has nothing to do w/the troops, they don't control govt. policy. As Brits, I think u also hv a right to be very proud of your Troopers also. Love & Respect from the USA!

I was probably your age when 9/11 happened here in the States.. My youngest was 1 my older boys were 12 and 13.. Our President said we were going to war that would outlast his presidency.. I was scared my older boys would be drafted into war and and also so frightened for my 1 yr old baby.. what was going to be his future.. It was a very hard time for me as a mother of 5.. the girls were 8 and 11.. But this song.. when Toby says.. I'm out here on the front lines.. sleep in peace tonight.. I cried.. Because.. our soldiers. do that everyday for our freedom.. Thank them always

I grew up as an Air Force brat which just means that we were a military family. Thankfully my dad never had to go fight in a war but he was still away from home more than he was home but we never felt like something was missing because he did everything he could for us when he was home. My extended family has had someone who died in a war zone in every generation except mine thank god. I loved the military family life because I enjoyed living in different places in the country and experiencing different cultures

My husband served 36 years. Wives were left to make the home fires keep burning. But many wives were taken to foreign countries with little or no knowledge of cultures etc. There is so much about the sacrifices that these families willingly give to keep our country free and I am so saddened that today’s America thinks our military is expendable by those who never have served.

I was out before my oldest would remember a deployment buy my younger sister who’s husband is also military went through many I can think
Of at least 3 her son can probably remember and it’s never easy it’s a trying situation but I’ll tell you it’s harder on those deployed cause they know at home it’s gotta be business as usual and your sitting there waiting for
    Phone time.🥲
