  • Had a few issues with this E46 such as no cruise control, visor mirror lights not working, air bag light coming on, break light fault light, no radio, lots of gremlins and turn out to be the Ignition Switch

    Thank you ....
Just took me about 20 minutes to replace ...
I was having the following symptoms
    Car horn not working
    Radio won’t work
Left stick that controls the mpg/temperature/miles wouldn’t change...
But my car would start ...
So I was told by different ppl it’s a car battery or starter motor which I did not understand
Cus my battery is only a month old ..
I decided to replace the ignition switch and so far everything is working fine ....

Did you ever experience your ignition switch loose and it not cranking over?

If I replace this part, do I need to encode the key afterwards?

Hmmm as far as I remember I didn’t do any coding, all info or what I did is in the vid. Nothing extra outside of the vid.

I have 2005 bmw 325i, a couple of days ago I replaced the alternator & the battery. I still have to crank my car for a long time to turn on, I don’t know what the issue can be.

May be it needs to be connected to an OBD2 port, and see if you have any fault codes, whats the service history like, spark plugs, coil pack.. also it could be a crankshaft or cam sensor that's playing up... unless there are deeper issues such us lack of compression or something like that..

have a question I got a 99 BMW 323i ...I went to start it one day and it clicked and after that nothing my light on the dash would come on but when I go to start it nothing would happen so I thought it was the starter but after about 4 days or so I went to start it up and it starts up fine ...now before all that for a while I notice my air bag light would come on and the lights for my break lights being out would come on and when I turn the car of and back on everything would clear up also my traction control and parking break light would stay on also ...so I was watching your video and I want to know if you think it's my ignition switch ?

Hi, i must say we had the same issues on my brothers car, including the courtesy light behaving strangely, so It sounds like you may have to replace the switch, just make sure your battery is fully charged too.

In that case it looks like it could well be your ignition switch. good luck.

All I remember is that when I was turning the ignition there was no dash and some other electrical issues, thats why i changed the switch.
