    To this day this game has one of the best gameplay experiences ever created.
    The ironman-like flying was so good and the movement of the suits felt perfect.
    It is a disaster to let a game die like this :(

      Usually, games fail because their core gameplay mechanics simply aren't good enough. The fact that this wasn't the case here is what makes me the most sad about the whole thing. The game lacked content and polishing, something much easier to achieve than great gameplay in the first place.

    Incredible gameplay with no endgame.

      That was unfortunately my experience as well. Which is so sad since incredible gameplay is very hard to achieve. Such a great foundation that got wasted here.

    Nothing would make me happier then a full reboot of Anthem, I don't even care who the developer would be. The FEEL of that game was one of the best, but that only takes you so far in a bland and repetitive world with a lackluster and honestly boring storyline not worth replaying.
    If they just straight up vaulted the old campaign, made a new one (or even built off of the original premise again, just much better), made Fort Tarsis third person and either pushed it to just being a player hub or actually put the effort into making it feel like a worthwhile part of the world in single player, and then actually gave it more then three repeatable dungeons to spam forever and ever, it would be a competitive looter shooter, balancing and the reducing the number of the stats on the items and weapons could come after.
    But that's A LOT of effort to put into a game already labeled as "dead," and EA will never give a shit about player enjoyment and Bioware is just EA's bitch nowadays, so someone else would have to take a massive risk at large expense to get this game to where it should have been.....

      I would be all for it but I don't see them doing it unfortunately unless it is a full revamp. And that - as you say - is a big risk and it would need a huge reason for them to do so. If I knew how to make that happen, I would have done already :)

    The gameplay was fun and engaging. The flying and combat. The varied feel of the javelins. Sad that they let it die. So much lost potential.

      It is incredible to see, how many people were left with the same feeling like me. So many comment this way here (and in other Anthem videos), even years later. If that isn't a sign this deserves another shot, I don't know :) *prays to the gaming gods*

    Every time someone mentions Anthem in a video, there's always sooooo many people that comment how much they loved the game and wish they stuck with it. After seeing what's been happening with Cyberpunk's new-found success (& No Man's Sky's incredible journey), it's even more of a bummer they quit on this game. RIP Anthem

    • @Polemos_Action
      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому +1

      It's certainly one of - if not the - biggest disappointment in gaming for me as well, yes. Anthem 2.0 could have been a redemption story at the level of Cyberpunk / No Man's Sky, as you mentioned, or Final Fantasy 14 (Reborn) many years ago.
      Especially since many of these games failed at start despite years of development. Anthem apparently only saw 15 months of real development and still you see so many players having fallen in love with the potential of it.
      Gotta cling to some last hope though. You never know :)

    I loved it too. I bought 3 copies for $1 each. Gave 2 to my buddies. One didn't even try it. I spent over 50 hours on it. I just love the feeling of going from running to flying. So awesome. Bring it back! Reboot!

      It did lack a lot of depth due to such a short development period but the foundationial gameplay was really great. I'm all for a reboot for sure :)

    great gameplay the problem is there was no game to play

    • @Polemos_Action
      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому

      That is the unfortunate truth, yes. Lack of content (incl. a balanced loot system) and proper enemy variety were the biggest issues in the end. People could probably have overlooked the story if the looter shooter grind would have been fun as endgame but this just wasn't advanced enough in terms of development. A real shame.

      One issue with Anthem was obviously the broken loot system and lack of content including actual variety in enemies. Nothing that couldn't have been added and fixed though. Really a shame but I'm glad I was able to experience it at all :)

      @@Polemos_Action maybe but there is games with worst loot systems and 6 enemies with different colors or something, right?? and they still not die
      i think there has to be more with a sheep effect, where someone says it sucks and then a lot of people say it so the rest belive it.
      i think it was more of a not much to do on the game?

    • @Polemos_Action
      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому +1

      @@-e6195I've certainly seen games go on despite being worse than Anthem in my personal opinion, yes.
      There obviously were lots of internal issues on Bioware's and EA's side as well at the time of Anthem. Just lots of unfortunate thigns coming together it seems.

    I have mixed feelings about anthem. gameplay wise the enemies took no advantage of the flight suits. They are simple generic and completely avoidable in an iron man style suit. more flying enemies or enemies that enaged in air would help.
    or weirdly less guns
    switch the guns out for meele wepons and give players a reason to get up close with only ranged abiities. that way youd take advantage of the speed and manuverability while still getting players to engage close range with the mobs. not sure how you'd story bullshit that but i reckon it would be more fast and frenitic and eliminate the needless very samey looking guns.
    If you keep the guns the enemies have to be designed to force you to fight them rather than simply fly past and thats a chalenge. tons of sky fire or movement liminting options might hamper. oddly i think armoured core might be a great example of a way to design enemies to fight flying and fast moving players.
    the giant rock golems being key enemies makes no godamn sense. its why they had to design so many cave and enclosed ruin fights which kinda was against the whole strength of the movement system. Why not dragons? they had small wyvverns why not boss dragons? they fly they walk their flames would over heat suits. perfect boss monster for this game.
    also would have been neat to see the storms further developed as teased in early trailers.

    • @Polemos_Action
      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому +1

      All valid points, yes. The enemies were clearly one of the parts of the game where it showed that the game was rushed out way faster than a usual title of this ambition and scope.
      Player gameplay fundamentals were incredible, unfortunately the rest didn't follow suit.

  • @Sloster
    @Sloster Рік тому +3

    I really think Anthem only had the 2 positives of a nice looking world and satisfying movement.
    Essentially, a soulless warframe :/

    • @Polemos_Action
      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому

      Appreciate the comment, thank you. Movement (where I'd include combat in general, so skills/gun play) and the world are indeed the main positives of the game but these are so fundamental things that many other games completely fail to deliver on. And if Anthem was actually forced out in only 15 months as some previous devs claim, then what they achieved in that timeframe is certainly amazing after all.

  • @RavenFlau
    @RavenFlau Рік тому +3

    Loved the game! But They hyped it too much and underdelivered. Didn't help that it was touted as the Destiny 2 killer, which is a pretty tall order lol

    • @Polemos_Action
      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому

      Unfortunately, yes. I've seen comments that internally, it wasn't allowed to even mention Destiny 2 but even if that is true, the media and community did enough to make this comparison hyper relevant.
      If the game then actually only had 15 months of real development, even the great foundation it has obviously wasn't enough to compete with a fully fledge and successful game.
      Too bad really. Just imagine the game would have received just 6-12 months more of proper development.

  • @sethyoder7996
    @sethyoder7996 Рік тому +1

    Sadly Anthem was horribly mismanaged. From what I remember there was constant leadership changes on the project and years worth of work got heavily changed or completely scrapped. I dont think it was any one persons fault. Bad circumstances and lots of things going wrong internally. In hindsight I'm almost more suprised the game even released and didn't get panned entirely.

    • @Polemos_Action
      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому

      You are right, absolutely - a lot of unfortunate things came together. If some of the comments are true and they rushed this out in 15 months, then given all the issues internally on top, what they delivered was even amazing. But overall, it obviously wasn't enough to cut it long-term. The game needed more polishing and content, things I still believe would have been worth adding though.

    It died because it was trash. It deserved to die. A polished fossilized turd is still just old shit no matter how shiny it was. There is no reason to look back on this game like it was some kind of hidden gem

      @Polemos_Action  Рік тому

      Sorry to hear you never felt it was any good. Many do think differently though and for a game with such a short development cycle, I still think it had amazing promise. But luckily, there are so mane games to cater to different tastes :)
