You said 8 ohms minimum but it's actually 4 ohms minimum as written on the back at: 5:30 of your video. I know it's hard to read but if you stop the video at 5:30 and read the third line down you can see it's 4 ohms min. - Peter age 73
I had the earlier 350W version back in the early 2000s. Was absolutely perfect for playing the local gigs, and sounded awesome. The 9 band EQ provides all the tone shaping anyone could ever need.
Thank you for making this video. I have been playing bass 30 plus years myself . I was lucky and came across one of these in my local pawn shop. I paired it with my SVT 6x10 HLF and my Sansamp v1 Di “to get the tube warmth and grit”. It’s dead on with a classic! Thanks again!!
You mean you saw the video and then happend to get lucky and find one in a pawn store? What did you pay for it? It's a great sounding Ampeg if you want solid state.
Finally!!! great rig... I have the same one, 450+610hlf... I love it, I just dont use the limiter, because I have a compressor and does the job, but this thing is rock solid, I use to have a 70's Sunn all tube head and no way Im going back after this SS Ampeg, plus on the extra storage I have a mini Ampeg Portaflex 350 clas D just in case this go out and need to fix it, as a back up... those things are cheap and light, not for playing everyday but for an emergency... great review... I love the sound of it...I never use the band EQ, I love the raw ampeg tone and simple, and yes it is the closest thing to a real tube head, Im not saying that it sounds exactly like a tube ok? But it has the little grind and warm head room... but is only a thing..Us bass players can notice, so why brake our backs? ;) cheers.
I have one of these. I love it too. Tubes or solid state, it doesn't matter to me. If I like it, I like it. I use it down at the practice space with an Ampeg 8x10. I also have 2 Ampeg SVT5 Pro's , 2 Ampeg BR2HE heads and 1 SVT Classic head along with a bunch of Ampeg cabs. with different speaker configurations and 2 Ampeg combos.
I wish I was just a one amp kinda guy. I would have more room in my house and more money in my pocket. I did just do a gear purge though. Now I have two 8x10 cabs, two 1x15 cabs, a 4x8 HLF cab, two 450H heads, one Classic head, one BR2HE head, One BA115HPT and one BA108. I got rid of the two 5 pro's, one BR2HE head and a PR1528 cab.
Hey man, thanks for doing a review of this. You are right, there's almost no reviews of this on UA-cam. I'm looking at the SVT 350H and can't find anything at all. This demo is the closest thing I could find.
Nice video man....I have the 1000 version of this and it's a beast. Has also been rock solid but I never see much info on them. Which cab is that....SVT-610HLF? I'm currently running a 210HE and 15E but thinking about a 610 or pairing the 210 with a 410.
Cool! Do you run yours with the Limiter on or off? Years ago, I had the SVT-350H (the predecessor of this one) and found that it was kind of weak. Years later, I wondered that if I had tried it with the limiter turned off if I would have found it to much more powerful. Odd that people would complain about the head version of this amp being a misrepresentation of anything. If they wanted a rack version, they'd need to look no further than the B2-RE which is the same amp in a rack mountable package.
Cool man, looks NEW! I don't think Ampeg was being false, the box looks like the guitar amps and it's their "look" for years, my VT-60 uses that space for the reverb components and tubes hanging down, it's probably cheaper for them to use one shape outer box and allows you to carry or store extra cables, foot switch, song books and junk?
@@SanitysVoid needed something gigable and cheap now just need a good cab to keep up with a Psychedelic rock band also nice to see a fellow Washingtonian lol
WOW that head sounds pretty good i have the SVT CL tube version but that heads got some glossy highs and has a 3D kinda sound like the tube version ive never been a fan of solid state or even hybrids just because of the guitar players and there volumes if you playing with someone with a 100watt Marshall with a half stack or full stack the only thing ive found to have a fighting chance was the SVT CL or the Orange AD200B both are balls to the wall loud i do like the sound of that SVT 450 thou is it loud enough when you play with loud guitar players? Just wondering if the headroom is big still and clear at loud gigging volumes
I've always over come the 100 Watt Marshall cab guitar players by having more then two cabs so like two full stacks. This does pretty good as a stand alone. The cab is 6x10 but I am sure a 8x10 would crush with the head in use. I think it has plenty of head room left over.
I love the ampeg combo amps . I was wanting the ba 115 like I had before but I had to settle for the ba 110 because I got to get the ampeg analog bass preamp pedal with it and that ampeg bass preamp pedal is the best preamp pedal that I ever heard . it gives my Jackson JS3 such a strong sound and great low end and the high end is also great through the pedal . if you dont have one then I would reccomemd you to check it out . it is well worth every penny . but when It comes to the stacks , I usually go with the old school hartke . and I love running the ampeg analog bass preamp on the harrke stack and you just cant get betrer bass tones from that combination . but im sure it would work great with your svt stack . you can get used ones on guitar center for around 80 bucks but ai bought mine brand new for 130 and its my weapon of choice when it comes to getting the best tones from an amp . but you did get that svt for a great price . they are very solid amps without a doubt
Yeah so i got a 8x10 running with the PF800 but i wanna get a matching head. Dont got the cash to throw down on a CL. So i think this video has convinced me to buy a 450H
I used to play in two thrash bands in the early 90's but have not in some time. Your audio on this video is trash , why use a flat eq? I'm using one of these with my second band because its in their rehearsal space and it sounds awesome. I realize you must not have access to quality audio gear so the sound is trash , if you're serious about posting Bass covers maybe invest in a laptop and a real microphone.
LOL Invest? As if I would make any money off it? That's what an investment does. I do this shit for free, it's not trash as much as you are an audio snob.
@@SanitysVoid the reason these sound so good is b/c they are MOSFET powered, which are voltage driven like vacuum tubes but without the weight and expense.
