  • Unboxing the Triton TRA001 3hp router and installing it in a table is super simple. I had to do a little modification to mate with my router table dust system, but it worked out perfectly.

    I epoxied a 1 inch section of 3/4 in. PVC pipe to the surrounding of the small nub that the height adjustment crank connects to to make it easier to get the end of the crank seated.

    Hi thanks for the very informative video. When you set the router up like this do you leave the plunge lock off or do you have to get underneath and lock it up after every setting?

    • @ChristcrossCrafts

      It has lockable indents that work well for most things, but I do occasionally need it locked especially if I'm making a precise cut..

    I intend to create a router plate that i can eaily pull out of the table and onto my flattening sled. I havent seen anyone do it so far.

    • @ChristcrossCrafts

      They all will come out. Most are held in with screws so there's no movement. Good idea making the plate fit your sled.

    Bought this I don’t know, 2 years ago. Cannot get it to raise up high enough to get the collet above the table.
    Tried all the “features”, took the spring out still nothing. I actually don’t much use it. It’s actually brand new sitting in the table.

    • @ChristcrossCrafts
      @ChristcrossCrafts  Рік тому +1

      You have to push the switch to off. It has a safety feature that won't allow the router to rise all the way up unless the switch is off and the little window is closed.
      Also, check the depth stop. I've done that before and forgot to loosen the depth stop knob.

    I like the dust shroud adapter for the router table application, where did you get that part? I'm planning on getting this soon and liked that idea better than building an encloser for the router. Also, do you find you use the back side of your table saw fence or have you done anything on the back side as a fence in your setup?

    • @ChristcrossCrafts

      Milescraft makes them now. Www.woodworkingshop.com and search router dust and it should come up.

    • @ChristcrossCrafts

      I usually set it anyway. There are some adjustments where the bit falls between indents on the knob. These definitely should be locked to prevent movement.

    At about 10:30', you had a circular closeup (?) while you were winding the router up and down. What did the closeup show, and was there anything on the Triton that made winding easy? Thanks

    • @ChristcrossCrafts
      @ChristcrossCrafts  2 місяці тому +1

      The triton has an above table adjustment rod that allows for easy fine tuning. Once set, you do need to lock the colum so no movement occurs.
      From below, there's a quick knob for fast adjustment up and down.
      If the router is used by hand, both the quick adjustment and fine tuning are still functional.

    • @ChristcrossCrafts

      I haven't had that issue with mine. So far it has performed well. I haven't had any really big bits in there - like a door panel bit, to need to use 1 or 2, but have used #3 up with no issues.
      My only complaint so far is the hole size of the metal housing. It will not accept standard 3" door panel bits, which is partly why I haven't used it for that.

    In the video at 1:09 in the router plate I see a red ring and bushing guide that were not in the plate before this. Did they come with the plate?

    • @ChristcrossCrafts
      @ChristcrossCrafts  3 роки тому

      They are part of the dust collection boot. They affix under the plate between the bit and plate. This sucks dust away that enters the collet area.

    • @ChristcrossCrafts
      @ChristcrossCrafts  3 роки тому

      I thought more on your comment and wanted to update my statement. The red ring and gray center piece are part of the plate. The red is a large ring and the gray will fit the standard Porter-cable style template guides. Both are just reducer bushings to decrease the hole size for different bits.

      @@ChristcrossCrafts Thanks for the info. I have a router table and needed to replace the Porter Cable 690 motor (not enough power) in my Incra Mast R Lift II. I could not use the Triton in the lift and really did not want to give up the lift (it was a bit expensive). I ordered a Bora Portamate PM254 Router Motor and just finished installing it. I made a test cut and so far I'm super pleased with it. Tomorrow I will do more testing.
