Kenny, thank you giving Hailie a place and time for her to let folks know more about who she is, why she's doing what she's doing. This is one of the best interviews I've seen in a really long time.
I was very impressed when she deftly turned the expected answer around from blaming other drivers for the wrecks that she has been in. Immediately she took charge of the answer and showed that everyone who was involved in the wrecks has a measure of responsibility in what happened. It was her way of quietly saying, "Look guys, here I come." Hailie is very respectful, her K&N days show that. When she sees that you are holding her up, not giving her respect for racing you super clean, here comes the bump and run that she didn't really want to use. When Hailie gives you the spot cleanly, she will remember if you gave her a spot cleanly, and she does remember. She reminds me a lot of Mark Martin, their style of racing is a lot alike.
Herman, Kenny, I once again thank you for giving Hailie the respect that she gives and should receive more of, and the opportunity for folks to learn more about her. She is subtle coating a sledgehammer. Drivers are better off being on her good side, otherwise her bumper is going to get bigger.

I had two girls, youngest almost 28 now… my older was interested in what women in sports and auto racing were doing, how they were doing, what kind of businesses they had. That sorta spurred me to pay attention to young NHRA and stock car women. Of course I always knew about Shirley Muldowney the drag racing twins, the Force girls, Shawna Robinson.
So I’ve been seeing Hailee Deegan work her way through. Totally different person than Danica. I think she’s going to find a way: she has perseverance and we can see what that did for Michael McDowell, Kulwicki, Mark Martin.

She is what I call deceptively smart ..... She has that little giggle and doesn't come off as all that smart at first glance until you start listening to her when she gets serious and you can see the wheels turning as she is speaking ....... I didn't really become aware of her until she did a Coffee with Kyle (Petty) and the funny thing is that it ended up being more about Hallie interviewing Kyle than Kyle interviewing Hallie. She was more or less picking his brain about how to deal with being an up and coming driver with a famous father who is a legend. Just type "Hallie Deegan Coffee with Kyle" into the search bar above and it should be the first hit. This was 3 1/2 years ago and you could see then how smart she really is just by the questions she was asking Kyle.

Good job Kenny! I’m glad you mentioned the difference between trucks and xfin. A lot of fans that have never raced they give drivers hell when Honestly in trucks the last 10yrs they run each other over and it’s not racing as I knew it. Anybody can take someone out. I was taught Your #1 goal is “FINISH THE RACE”. Then after you finish damage free. Your next goal is get a top 10 or 20. -- then progress. Today the kids don’t get spoon fed. I’ve heard countless owners with a new driver. Expecting them to win race 1. When we both know circle track or road racing is all experienced based. It’s not like drag racing where defense isn’t a factor. -- In stock cars/dirt cars. You have offensive moves / defensive moves. Everytime someone puts a new move on you, it gets burned into your brain. It takes years to build that tool box up and fans don’t seem to understand that. I won a ton of races simply by shoveling air under back bumpers. I put them on ice skates 10 times in the last 5 laps. So by the last lap I wore them down mentally. But that took me 3-5yrs to figure out exactly how to do it incognito.

There has been a fundamental change in the way people behave. Back in the 1960s and 70s when I was involved in racing, it was a community. If somebody's car got wrecked we tried to help each other to get back on track for the next race.

Two great drivers and friends having fun! That’s the best part about racing! Both of you keep up the good work you’re doing! Building consistency and working hard to finish where you want to is no easy task, and yet, when faced with adversity and people who don’t want you to succeed, both of you fine people have handled the haters well, and have made it work where it counts. Nice job! Looking forward to seeing both of you in SRX victory lane soon!
