It’s fascinating how your colour choices, artistry, wisdom and this week’s technique seem to reflect your current state of being. Feeling blue, you slowly and so carefully stitched those surface layers together ‘just enough’. Your sharp scissors step by step snipped the blue and brown away to - oh so slowly - reveal the layer of (almost) flesh underneath, taking us with you to a new place of raw vulnerability. Just as a snake sheds its old skin. It is YOUR true colours I have seen today: someone whose communication and skills reflect profound authenticity, whatever is going on. Thank you. I worked at an assisted living home about 20 years ago and there was a little lady that resided there that had lived in Panama many years ago. I absolutely loved going to her room because all along her walls she had many mola that she had gotten framed. She told me all about them when I expressed interest in them. She told me the Kuna women would sell them for 25 cents each. The ones she had were quite large, probably around 15 x 22 inches more or less. She gave me one of a dragon that she had made into a pillow. It is one of my most favorite treasures. They are absolutely fascinating and beautiful.

Oh wow! We are of a very similar age. I live in the most northern part of New Zealand. I didn’t think this was overly relevant but when I heard you say what you said in the video today, I thought you might like to know how far you had reached. I go to a fibre group meeting each month and it is all about knitting, crochet and spinning. The person who organises it arrived and proceeded to tell everyone about her new obsession….slow stitching… mindfulness, process etc. But then she said she had a rice bag, loved running stitch and if you weren’t sure, you could audition the cloth, I kinda knew she was a K3 N cloth-taler! I did ask at the end and she confirmed. Next month we are all doing slow stitching !! 🤣🤣

Oh Kathryn i am so sorry to hear what you are going through. You know how much you are loved by us all here and if there is any help that I can give please let me know. You have helped me in so many ways. Listening to you talk today and the project you have chosen is so linked to your life at the moment, but remember you did say you can spiral up as well as down and that is what you will be doing. I was married for 32 years with 2 children before it ended. I bought myself a tiny dwelling and called it the Burrow. I can honestly say that even though money is very tight the independence and inner strength that I feel is wonderful. my home has become both my sanctuary and studio and I love it. Here I live with two rescued dogs and I am content. I sincerely wish the same for you. I had a knee replacement 2 days ago and you are going to get me through this as I have been unable to catch up with all of your videos but now is the time. I live in England in the Midlands and went to the festival of quilts on the Friday too and some bought some snippy snippy Fiskars and applique pins. I sat with some ladies I didnt know for coffee, and guess who we talked about and had a common admiration for, yes you guessed it was You. So please remember you have built a wonderful community here and we all love you dearly xx

I chuckled when you spoke of the person who told you the “correct” way to quilt. I’ve sewn, quilted, spun and woven for over 45 years, and the only correct way for an artist/creator to do something is the way that works best for that individual. I’ve come across people in the historical costuming community who get their knickers in a knot if someone doesn’t do something the “right” way, and beginners who develop great anxiety as a result. Looking at extant garments should lay that matter to rest - the original owners made do, made adjusted, had good or bad skills depending on… well, let’s say because they were human. My only and constant advice (unless it truly is a technical discussion amongst fellow nerds) is to Do You. Your fabric or fibre, your tools, your project, your rules. That’s where true inventiveness, excitement, creativity and joy is found. And as for new beginnings… I’m 18 months widowed after 41 yrs together. Not the same as your situation but a major life readjustment nonetheless. You have your tribe, you’re making the hard decisions. Go forth with your head held high and Do You. 18 months in from my own "new beginning", and the loss of my dear old cat, and 4 years in my little house ( which is pretty much all studio space lol) l have 2 new cats...sister and brother...and a few health issues, but freedom to create, read, cook and watch these and other videos at will. Change has been a constant in my life, but finding it more difficult with age..drat ! Looking forward to further watching with you in your new abode. I worked at an assisted living home about 20 years ago and there was a little lady that resided there that had lived in Panama many years ago. I absolutely loved going to her room because all along her walls she had many mola that she had gotten framed. She told me all about them when I expressed interest in them. She told me the Kuna women would sell them for 25 cents each. The ones she had were quite large, probably around 15 x 22 inches more or less. She gave me one of a dragon that she had made into a pillow. It is one of my most favorite treasures. They are absolutely fascinating and beautiful.

Oh wow! We are of a very similar age. I live in the most northern part of New Zealand. I didn’t think this was overly relevant but when I heard you say what you said in the video today, I thought you might like to know how far you had reached. I go to a fibre group meeting each month and it is all about knitting, crochet and spinning. The person who organises it arrived and proceeded to tell everyone about her new obsession….slow stitching… mindfulness, process etc. But then she said she had a rice bag, loved running stitch and if you weren’t sure, you could audition the cloth, I kinda knew she was a K3 N cloth-taler! I did ask at the end and she confirmed. Next month we are all doing slow stitching !! 🤣🤣

Oh Kathryn i am so sorry to hear what you are going through. You know how much you are loved by us all here and if there is any help that I can give please let me know. You have helped me in so many ways. Listening to you talk today and the project you have chosen is so linked to your life at the moment, but remember you did say you can spiral up as well as down and that is what you will be doing. I was married for 32 years with 2 children before it ended. I bought myself a tiny dwelling and called it the Burrow. I can honestly say that even though money is very tight the independence and inner strength that I feel is wonderful. my home has become both my sanctuary and studio and I love it. Here I live with two rescued dogs and I am content. I sincerely wish the same for you. I had a knee replacement 2 days ago and you are going to get me through this as I have been unable to catch up with all of your videos but now is the time. I live in England in the Midlands and went to the festival of quilts on the Friday too and some bought some snippy snippy Fiskars and applique pins. I sat with some ladies I didnt know for coffee, and guess who we talked about and had a common admiration for, yes you guessed it was You. So please remember you have built a wonderful community here and we all love you dearly xx

I chuckled when you spoke of the person who told you the “correct” way to quilt. I’ve sewn, quilted, spun and woven for over 45 years, and the only correct way for an artist/creator to do something is the way that works best for that individual. I’ve come across people in the historical costuming community who get their knickers in a knot if someone doesn’t do something the “right” way, and beginners who develop great anxiety as a result. Looking at extant garments should lay that matter to rest - the original owners made do, made adjusted, had good or bad skills depending on… well, let’s say because they were human. My only and constant advice (unless it truly is a technical discussion amongst fellow nerds) is to Do You. Your fabric or fibre, your tools, your project, your rules. That’s where true inventiveness, excitement, creativity and joy is found. And as for new beginnings… I’m 18 months widowed after 41 yrs together. Not the same as your situation but a major life readjustment nonetheless. You have your tribe, you’re making the hard decisions. Go forth with your head held high and Do You. 18 months in from my own "new beginning", and the loss of my dear old cat, and 4 years in my little house ( which is pretty much all studio space lol) l have 2 new cats...sister and brother...and a few health issues, but freedom to create, read, cook and watch these and other videos at will. Change has been a constant in my life, but finding it more difficult with age..drat ! Looking forward to further watching with you in your new abode.
