America's Largest Thrift Store in 2021. What did I find? It couldn't possibly be vintage patterns...

  • At 74,000 square feet, America's Largest Thrift Store is the Community Aid in Selinsgrove, PA. I was close by and decided it was worth the 90 minute drive. My thrift haul includes vintage patterns (shocking, I know), vintage clothes and other fun vintage items. Most of which I will be selling on eBay or my personal website.
Grab your coffee and come along for another fun thrift haul in Pennsylvania.

You inspired me!! I decided to go to my local Salvos (Australian for the Salvation Army).
I found an uncut 70s tiered skirt pattern and I found a closing fabric shop sale and purchased some fabric for it. The entire project cost me $23! Australian dollar (sewing stuff is stupidly expensive here).

Your daughter is so pretty. She is also well behaved. I was impressed when you were doing the haul in the car, she didn't interrupt. Some hauls I see the children are loud and no manners. Love the video and your other videos. Especially the ones where you are sewing. You crack me up when you are having fun with the pattern and the criticizing some of the pattern instructions.. It so good to watch someone with a good sense of humor. I have subscribed you.

FYI - During the last year, most thrift stores up here were closed and not even accepting donations or whatever. So they may have recently reopened and the spacing may be to encourage social distancing. (By the way, most of us from Pennsylvania pronounce Selinsgrove as See-linz-grove. You were close, though.) Great tour!

Say "Hello" to the Incredibles doll for us... and to Hello Kitty...
And Size 50 Mail Order?!! That's basically the dress that I went through alllll the many drafts to get for my Foundations Revealed entry... holy doodle, Batman...
My guess would be the 80's for the folk-art rainbow peg board (which is _flippin_ adorable, by-the-by).
And yeah. Underwhelm. We've noticed the uptick in the Value Village prices as well. Not. Impressed.

    _Fishing Pocket Update._
Hot damn, if I didn't get the design to workable on the second try. Yesterday I was standing in the middle of the Rideau River, just off of one of the city parks (so I got there by bus from our Centretown apartment tree-house). I am leaning on a washed up, bleached white tree at the mid-point between the shores. My rod is stuck in the hollow, where small weeds and a spider live. I reach down into my 17th century inspired, many pockets of many pockets, brand new mock two of my Fishing Pocket. And pull out a thermos of coffee.
    Mama like.
Then a sudden usual-August-monsoon-thunder-storm blew in. And I slowly make my way to the far shore because, there's like, you know, lightning. Practically on top of me. And I'm standing in the middle of a river that only reaches to my knees, so I'm the tallest thing there. Yeah, so, to the far shore it is. I may have been chanting "I am fine. I am fine in this moment. I am fine." to myself whenever I couldn't seen the bottom limestone of the river because of the rising mist from the pounding rain. Thankfully the stones of the river-bottom are quite flat (it's ancient seabed, so somewhere back in time, whales would have been swimming above my head). Somehow I wasn't scared. If anything I was continually struck by the beauty of it all.
Then I reached the shore. Chatted with some people under a tree. Walked across the pedestrian bridge across the river to the bus stop. Then home again, home again.
And something I made got me through all that with flying colours. My Grandad's fishing gear is drying off as we speak. And I did Not have to pay north of 200$ for a fishing man's "fishing chest pack" that would not fit chesty me. Huzzah..

$4 US / $5 Canadian for a thrift store t-shirt. Yup. That’s absolutely average in Southern Ontario.
Dresses run about $12 -18 US. Possibly more if it’s contemporary with tags. Even if it’s a nothing brand.
Those shoes, the used kids ones, thats insane though. And that’s considering new shoes are cheaper in the US than Canada.

Just so you know, Community Aid is not your usual thrift store. They are local, there are 6 in the south central PA area. They are non profit, donating mucho dinero to local non-profit agencies in the communities where their stores are located. That's not a reason for the prices. But I will say that the Selinsgrove (pronounced seal-ins-grove) area is, how shall I say it, economically not the greatest. 😕 The store in the Harrisburg area tends to get donations from a broader range of economic levels. That would be about an hour south of where you were. What WERE you doing in Central PA? Next time you are here, hit me up for some sweet honey holes! 🍯😁 Happy Thrifting! Love your vids....

I am just thankful that the ones I bought they had lotted up! I would've been so mad if they had do that to the plus size super rare patterns.

@@StephanieCanada I feel like the pattern I'm currently cutting out came from the Community Aid in Lancaster. I managed to get the sticker off with minimal damage and just a bit of tape left on the back. The person left everything she cut off in the envelope, but it's my size anyways, yay!

Two and a half hour drive for me. No thanks. It’s a small thrift store disguised as a big thrift store!
