My husband and I are both retired TV broadcast engineers. He started his career in 1962 and still remembers using those old 4-turret RCA cameras. Thanks for the memories!
I worked there in the ‘70’s in the editorial department doing promos. It was one of my first jobs. I was also a film projectionist, running dailies. Dwayne (Dobie Gillis) Hickman was an exec there at the time. Super nice guy. I really miss that place!
Saw "Three's Company" being videotaped in March 1979. Episode where everyone gets hit with a pie. Still remember the brightness of the lights and Suzanne Sommers shaking mine and many others' hands since we were seated on the aisle.
13:16- Two of Jack's writers were George Balzer (at the left) and Sam Perrin (on the right). They worked with Jack on radio and TV for almost 25 years.
And the whole thing built for LIVE television production. Imagine that. No retakes, no editing, just straight out to network. It would be three more years until videotape recording equipment was installed.
Enjoyed this special, very interesting! Sad that now The Price is Right is moving because of CBS' sale of Television City a few years back. A piece of its history is gone, but the show will be just as good in my opinion! Maybe their new home is larger and they can do more with it.
"My Favorite Husband" was a TV version of Lucille Ball's radio show of the same name, which was on from 1949-51 and led to the creation of "I Love Lucy" after many changes to the cast and format. They decided to do another TV version of the original but stay truer to the original concept. This new version was on from 1953-55 and rerun in 1957 but has been largely forgotten since.
If you look close and were aware of studios 31 and 33, you can see that it's not really 33. Studio 31 originally had permanent seats which were removed a couple of years from TV City's opening.

Just started my career as a broadcast engineer. Very cool to see how television was made back in the day

@mIchaeljohnson8546 Did you work on the Catch The Brightest Stars on CBS TV promo campaign in 1975?
@@davidsharp3110 Sorry, no. I worked there between 1977 to 1979.
@@davidsharp3110 No, I did not.

Curious: why are the studios at TVC numbered as they are? Why weren’t the original studios just numbered 1 through 8?
Very rare to see 31 in its original configuration; the seats were removed and the pit filled in some years later.
Although I live in Australia, I found this video very interesting. In 1953 I was 4.
Notice how CBS removed the RCA logo from the cameras, since RCA owned NBC.
I wonder if that incredible model of the facility still exists?
Of course it does
