Yeah, that level is the bane of d-pads. Somehow, it's actually easier in SEGA CD Special Edition, because that version has better collision handling. While here you can get hit by an invisible truck.
Its one thing to get through this game with no damage.. But to get through the submarine stage first try without even one crack on that submarine glass is close to impossible. Extremely impressive.
At least it's has no random factors, it's just a matter of pure skill. Now the falling stalactites in "What the Heck" level - THAT is a real cancer to live through... Oh, and the meteorites in "For Pete's Sake". Those are random too. You basically need an almost frame-perfect reaction for the duration of meteorite rain in order to pull off a no-hit there.
Yeah you did a great job, I got this game the other day for my genesis and im blindly playing through it so I know first hand how much harder it is than it looks, I'm stuck on level 5 hahaha
No offense, but is this a tool assisted run? Level 5 eye dispensers can be whipped to close them off. That is a lot to take care of on 'difficult' mode. Not to mention the rooster boss. EDIT: last stage is bonkers, even my palms are getting sweaty.
Yeah, I don't really hide it anyways, I've stated since the first videos in the channel's bio that I do use states. It's not like I'm a professional speedrunner - I do care about my mental health after all.)) ... well, sorta, actually. I do use available tools where possible, but there always will be PC / Android / PS3 / PS4 / etc. playthoughs. For now I don't do an awful lot of them, but sometimes I do take on challenges for these platforms too, as seen by the very first videos of this channel - the Battride War series. The Dark Souls challenges are also coming some time in the future, by the way.
On Level Five there's brain farts and I can almost guarantee you that the big eyes in Who Turned Out The Lights? are of an oversized Shadow Demon from What The Heck?
The brain part is obvious, but the second association seems kind of far fetched to me - I mean, they have completely narrow red eyes, and are not that big - while the one in the Secret Level is quite big and has eyes that seem shaded from white/yellow into read, and look much wider. Maybe a cat?
Yeah, it was the same for me way back in my childhood, and to be honest, it's still a butt-clenching experience regardless of the system, unless you choose to ignore the no-hit approach. A couple of properly timed whip attacks can get you through at the expense of taking some damage, on both Genesis and SNES. But with no-hit case it becomes a time management nightmare, much like For Pete's Sake level.
Haha, yeah, I believe many games of this period used the same sound assets, considering it's an actual voice clip which is hard to compress for old consoles while also maintaining the quality at reasonable level. I believe the fart sound from the Level 5 is also from MS.
You’re the first person I’ve seen get through For Pete’s sake without taking any damage! Outstanding

Props to you man, I could almost never leave the game without taking some form of damage
I did beat it so many times on the hardest difficulty

@@MaskedLongplayer That's true. And at least part of the reason I said that shadow demon is cause it makes the same sound.
27:10 this part is so easy on Sega Genesis LOL
I completed this level in my childhood but that part is so hard on Super Nintendo

@@MaskedLongplayer oh my god that level was a pain, I was playing it yesterday and I completed everything but that and the booger was hard af for me
This game is so much tougher than It looks
Yeah, it took an assload of retries for me to nail that "For Pete's Sake" no-damage run! Good old-school hardcore!
I tried beating the last level in this without getting hit many many times and it’s not working it might take me a day to beat it no hit!
The nested one-hit-death bugs are the most annoying issue here, but otherwise it's pretty easy. Good luck beating it.
weird game but that's why I like it
8:01 metal slug ?

Yeah, what about it? It's a beginning of a Level 2.
@@MaskedLongplayer no. I'm a very bad player
