I was hoping to see more of those platies from the footage of that young fellow's fish tank you set up and here you delivered. He had some gorgeous various platies in that smaller tank. My first "tank" was a fish bowl, one red platy and a little canister of flake fish food at 8 years old in the late 70s. What a long wonderful road the journey has been! I agree this is best for the type who doesn't mind gaining some knowledge on the subject and learning some things that they might not have expected to have to learn. Fish keepers are definitely a "type", though we can't always tell who will and won't be as I've seen all sorts appreciate this hobby. But we all do come together in some appreciation for the best of what this hobby brings into one's life. I've noticed many of us have a really great appreciation for the calm and serenity that watching an aquarium brings.
I remember my first tank. I was 10 & 1/2 and had to work for half the money (my dad matched what I had saved) to buy my first 10-gallon tank kit at my local fish store, Margie's Aquarium. I think my dad wanted to see if I really wanted it. Yes, I did. I already had a chemistry set and a student microscope, and I have always thought like a scientist. This was close to 60 years ago, and I am again back in the hobby. It's still fun, although I have had a couple of setbacks, and my body doesn't always co:operate, but it is such a fun hobby. I am glad to see that it is still embraced by the current generation of kids. (Chemistry sets aren't the same as I remember!) Merry Christmas!
Got my first goldfish in a bowl in 1970. I'm now 63 and my retirement job is in a large specialist aquatics store. Done just about everything aquatics. A percentage of youngsters will stay in the hobby. I've learned how to identify the serious ones. Those we try and coach to have success.
@@Odipodi ja he does. I do use his substrate system (one inch "dirt" 2 inches sand) in most my tanks but it is a little bit more complicated in my opinion than a small kid can do without substantial parental involvement so I tried to keep it as simple as I could.
