- Thanks to shows like Criminal Minds and The X-Files, you might think the FBI have complete jurisdiction in serial killer crimes and alien investigations, but that's not really the case.
In this episode of Misconceptions, host Justin Dodd debunks some myths about the G-people, including how the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted list works, and whether or not agents are contractually obligated to wear sunglasses indoors. Spoiler alert: they’re not.

"No ma'am. We of the FBI do not have a sense of humor that we are aware of."
"an alien serial killer" dude just pitched the next #1 movie
I like how conspiracy theories aren't on the list of misconceptions.
Considering how notoriously awful at determining truth polygraph tests actually are (pretty much as consistent as a coin flip) it’s surprising and kind of annoying to hear you say that the FBI would make former coworkers and friends take one to determine if you’ve done drugs.
Now do the ATF.
Except it will be Top Things You Won’t Believe They Actually Did (to your dog).
The only encounter I've had with an FBI agent was when they asked us if we'd be willing to take a drugs survey so they could get a better control group for my tiny-ass town devoid of young people. I had no reason to think we were suspect because this is before they built the clinic in our town and it was very much well-known that was going to happen. I'm sure the FBI handles a ton of mundane work in addition to its infamous stuff; I would imagine they just rely on the fact that it gets buried in the mundane stuff. Kinda like when they try to pass a law that has 300 pages and one key sentence that dooms the whole country.
The "vaunted Quantico facility in Virginia" you showed at 10:30 when discussing new agent training is the lab, not the academy
Actually knew quite a few of these since a friend of mine got a job as a secretary for the FBI back in 2018. A bunch of our mutual friends and I all had to be interviewed prior to her getting the position. The lady I spoke with almost didn't seem like the classic idea of an FBI agent at all, the only thing that really reminded me was her ID and the actual interview. Of all places to have an interview, it was at a coffee shop. Anyway the interview was quite easy, my friend got the job, and I received a fun little fact about myself to throw into "Two Truths And A Lie" games lol
As a high school teacher I've been interviewed several times for security clearances. Only thing is the interview often takes place many years after I'd had the student, so don't really remember much.
So Criminal Minds put some effort in to getting certain things right, like they can only get involved in certain situations, but fails in others
This video is a psyop
Your mom is a psyop
I didn't think Mental Floss would get mockingbirded.
It's currently being gangstalked
😂
A friend of mine works in a part of the FBI where most of the information is classified. He can't tell me about a whole lot of stuff that I would really, really like to know
The best depictions of the FBI are the old TV series THE FBI and its sequel series TODAY'S FBI.
The SAC for one of the largest FBI offices told me that the drug policies are, or were in 2013, really only there so they could hire former special operations soldiers to the HRT.
He told me if I wanted to be an agent, the fact I had used lidocaine injection that was given to me by, but not prescribed by, a doctor would disqualify me regardless of the years since it happened. They wouldn't tell me that was why, but it would be the reason if everything else looked good.
Where did you find this awesome music bed?
There are no misconceptions about the FBI or CIA, if you think they did it, they did.
Be careful. Some guy was ordered to pay a billion dollars for exposing their involvement with some events..
Shhhh
Special agents can't apply if they are 35 or over. So 10 years prior for drug use puts it at 25 max
"He was on our radar"😢
I can’t take this sassy guy seriously
The person cutting out the stock images forgot their scissors, eh?

The drug policy is dictated by the the guidelines for your security clearance. If that's laxed, the government agency can be laxed.
I was told FBI hires Mormons who have served Missions. Loyal, sober, hetro.
