Protecting butterfly wings is very important to us. Our keepers only touch them while we remove them from their emergence chambers - we use our fingers like scissors to pinch their wings closed which prevents them from flapping and breaking their wings. That brief contact might leave some oils, and it can rub off some of the colorful scales, but it’s not enough to affect their flight. When our guests interact with the butterflies, we encourage them to use one finger for the butterflies to step onto and avoid touching the wings. Thanks for watching!
@@ThanksgivingPointLehi alright, thank you! I don't know if you would know about dragonflies as well, but if you do, would you advise against touching dragonfly wings or would it be alright?
Just like with the butterflies, the biggest concern with touching the wings of flying insects is that we don’t break them, structurally. If you can possibly catch a dragonfly - they’re so fast! - you just want to make sure you do it in a way that the veins, which keep the wings stiff for flight, aren’t broken.
Im ok with small moths but when i see large ones and butterflies i run away and when i see a catterpillar i hate it since it reminded me of my fav plant that got swarmed by them
*MOTHS*
AHHHH
Isn't it bad to touch the wings? The oils of our hands damage them, don't they?
